The Tavern at Bown is a great option for lunch or dinner. They have a solid menu, and no matter what you order it will be delicious. I have been here multiple times and ordered everything from sushi, to steak, to seafood pasta, to a burger and never been disappointed. They offer a great happy hour menu as well. The nachos are a must, and the drinks are tasty. I most recently took my Grandmother here for a lunch date and he had a wonderful time. We both ordered the daily special, fish and chips, and it was delicious. The fish was crispy on the outside and flavorful. The server was very sweet and excellent with my Grandmother. This restaurant does fill up quickly for dinner so I would recommend getting there early, or being prepared for a bit of a wait. read more

I had high hopes for the Tavern and had heard good things, but it wasn't meant to be. We ate there this last week and took some out of town friends. The waitress was pleasant, but slow ( very slow). Drinks were drinkable, but again slow. My wife had the Thai Chicken Salad, and she said it was so-so. Their peanut sauce tasted like just some blended peanut butter, very bland. We asked for extra Sriracha sauce but apparently there is only 1 bottle of it in the entire restaurant. I had an 8oz filet which was severely charred and a little tough. Although the au gratin potatoes were good and cheesy. Also, the table we were at was so close to our neighbors table it was almost a little uncomfortable. Right from the start, our server, Jess, made an immediate positive impression with her cheery disposition and warm smile. We knew it was going to be a great evening. We started out with the Tavern Manhattan and Great Dane. For appetizers, we started off with the wedge salad and brussel sprouts. The portions were unbelievably generous and delicious. For the entree, we had the sirloin steak topped with button mushrooms and steak frites and spinach salad. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were unbelievable. We had a bottle of Frank Family cab which complemented the meal perfectly. I cannot say enough about our server, Jess. She was so professional, friendly, and made our meal even better. Inside out: parking here was an absolute nightmare. There's just no two ways about it, the tiny cramped parking lot in the back had people parking like carrot brains (which is not the fault of the business) but otherwise street parking. But outside of the place looks pretty average nothing striking. The inside as well decorated, comfortable, pretty delightful. The seats were incredibly comfortable and they had ample room for a party of six for my mom's birthday. Service: Our server was top notch good, incredibly easy to get along with and thoughtful. 10/10 everyone there was incredibly kind. Food: well worth it for their SURPRISINGLY reasonable prices. My parents split the wagon wheel roll and it filled them both up. The happy hour rolls were $5 and freaking delicious. My grandma and I split the salmon burger with sweet potato fries and we will definitely be coming back. Our party of three arrived around 5:45 for dinner on a Wednesday night. There was a private event upstairs, but our waiter was attentive and brought our drinks quickly. We ordered an appetizer, later ordered our entrees which took more than 45 minutes to arrive. Our waiter was apologetic and kept checking in with us saying the kitchen was very busy. We ordered a second round of drinks. Our food finally arrived. One member of our party ordered salmon. It was not very warm but we didn't want to complain since it had taken so long for our food to arrive. She began to eat from the smallest edge of the filet but got to the middle to find it was still raw. Our server said he'd talked to the manager who took 50 percent off the price of the entree. We were there for two hours. We've been a frequent customer of the Tavern Eagle Island location and have always had great experiences. Interesting two restaurant in one concept - one part seems to be a traditional steak house, the other part Asian/sushi. We've now visited twice, sat on the Asian side once, the traditional side the second time. Both cuisines work, and the atmosphere is fine, even given the combination of two different types of atmosphere. The first time, I went for a sushi roll and two hand rolls; the second time for tako salad and a steak salad. My companions went for lamb shanks and a fancy burger. Beer and wine all around - happy hour the first time. My only complaint would be my wife wanted a dark beer, and there wasn't a desired dark beer on the 6.50 happy hour menu. They recommended and brought a dark bottled beer - which was $16 for the bottle. My fault for not asking the price, but still... If I had a real complaint, service was quite slow both visits - luckily we were in no hurry, but the service could have been better. Overall, recommended, and we will be back. read more

We stopped in for a drink and Calamari. There was no hostess at the stand so we walked into the bar and we were going to sit at a table. We heard someone yelling at us that we had to be seated by the hostess. It was the female bartender behind the bar. Everyone in the bar looked at us like we had committed a crime. We politely said there wasn't a hostess there. Apparently she had stepped away for a minute, she promptly seated us at the same table that we previously selected. The hostess was very polite and said it happens all the time. The bartender created a scene that was very unprofessional and made us feel unwelcome. We have been going to the Tavern since they opened and it was previously open seating in the bar area. We hadn't been there in a while and didn't know they had changed it. The most unbelievable part of this whole experience was the owner, female, was sitting at the bar the whole time and apparently saw nothing wrong with what her bartender did. The ambiance is mostly around the bar section but you can sit is the quiet Dining Room if you want to or if they have someone to serve you there, you just have to ask. The food is always freshly prepared and delicious. We have had dinner many places and find the Tavern to be consistent and good. The service is very friendly and competent. They have specialty seasonal cocktails that are fun! Also we have been to Brunch and it is still the high quality! The BEST steak around and the prices are reasonable! Have fun! read more

This place is a hit or miss. Sometimes I walk away vowing to never return, then others it's like...we need to return soon. The food is usually well prepared, although the Prime Steak bites are overcooked and tough, especially difficult to get off of the skewer. The server was kind, attentive, helpful, and very professional 4.5/5 stars. I ordered the clams and a medium rare steak with the veggies and a caesar salad. With 2 double vodkas neat with a lime. I recieved the clams appetizer, was extremely disappointed. The cook didn't reduce the alcohol from the white wine on the sauce, didn't season it properly, didn't sauté the garlic and served it raw, and overcooked the clams. It felt like I was chewing flavorless rubber with an overwhelming sharp garlic taste that killed and overwhelmed the taste of everything. 0/5 stars. After tasting the clams, I politely apologized and cancelled my steak. I had 3 of the clams and couldn't stomach the rest. I apologized and asked for my bill. Paid $48 with a $5 tip included. Overall? This restaurant is trash and overpriced. They have trash hosts/kitchen staff but good servers. 1/5 stars because the server was amazing. Fire the racist host, get a new kitchen staff and you'll be 4.5/stars instantly. I shouldn't even be saying this.. But?... You do realize that the host is the first face and first experience that anyone recieves of your restaurant. "First impressions are everything" after all. When the waitress finally brought it she tried setting it down extending it in front of my husband instead of coming behind me and setting it beside me like normal . Poached eggs should have runny yolks, not hard. The hollandaise sauce was good. The home style potatoes were burnt and the onions were little black charcoal pieces. We had a very poor experience at the tavern at Bown Crossing. I am 100% disabled so we entered the restaurant straight under the patio with our service dog. When the server came out, she looked at us and said with a snarl, animals are not allowed on the patio. I explained it was a service dog and she then pointed out that we could not just go straight onto the patio without asking any questions. I Was here for a birthday party, on the rooftop. It was beautiful up there! There was an appetizer buffet that included potstickers, skewers- chicken and veggie, and peel and eat type shrimp. A few other things. I thought it was very good. Drinks are a little weak, but the staff was nice, the bathrooms were clean and it had a good vibe overall. I was here previously for dinner and thought it was pretty good as well - I ordered something steaky. I see a lot of bad reviews on their sushi. I've never tried that. I slept over night before writing this review as I write with a lot emotion when I'm angry and I needed some time to gather my thoughts. We made dinner reservations at The Tavern (Bown Crossing) to enjoy the evening with our two adult children and their spouses who were visiting from other states. As a matter of reference, our children are in their 30's and none of us are high maintenance. We chose The Tavern as we live in the vicinity and want to support our neighborhood establishments - we ordered takeout from them often during the pandemic and wanted to continue our support. We were looking forward to a great evening over dinner and conversation. Our party of six was seated promptly at a table in the upstairs area next to a group of approximately 10-12 adult males - I estimate that their ages ranged from mid-40's to mid-60's and they appeared (by their attire) to have spent the day on the golf course. The waitress attempted to greet us and share the menu specials, but we couldn't hear her (or any of our own conversations) due to the obnoxious behavior of the people at the next table. Here are only a few words to describe how they ruined our evening, including but not limited to: · Loud (exceedingly) · Boisterous · Rude · Disrespectful · Vulgar · Offensive · Sexist I expressed our concern to the waitress but she just shrugged her shoulders as if there was nothing she could do about it. We tried to make the best of it but it didn't take very long before it became unbearable. When their language became overly loud and offensive, we decided to leave the restaurant before we placed our dinner orders and I discussed the situation with the manager on my way out. He stated that it this group of customers are regulars and it was "unfortunate" that we didn't bring the problem to his attention. I informed him that his employees were very much aware of the problem and that it wasn't my responsibility to do his job. Every day, small businesses make value judgements regarding the culture of their organization and the types of customers that they want as patrons. If the owners and management of the restaurant are going to allow this type of behavior in their establishment, they clearly don't value me as a customer. I won't return and recommend that others do the same. There are many restaurants in our area from which to choose, and The Tavern is off my list. read more

I can honestly say these were the best sweet potato fries I've ever had (crispy and flavorful - not soggy at all.) My niece had a Classic Club, my nephew had the Grilled Reuben.
