Horrible customer service for our reserved group by staff, mainly the waitress Parker. We made a reservation for 16 people a day or more prior to visiting. Our waitress, Parker spoke to our table in an incredibly condescending tone that made us all speechless. I've never been spoken to that way at a restaurant She yelled for us to "Pay attention and listen" when handing out wine which ended up being incorrect. When taking orders she became unreasonably upset that someone tried to order something she said they were out of (he didn't hear her at the other end of the table) and she stormed off. There was one-man band playing directly next to our table for the vineyard which it made it difficult to hear and she had zero patience for questions or repeating herself. She tried to excuse her behavior by stating that she was "being blunt and honest" with us so that things would go more smoothly. It did not. Overall our food didn't come out for over an hour and when it did only a few people got their food. People would get their food randomly and some not at all. 3 of us never received our food including myself. Our waitress would quickly walk by multiple times without ever checking on us. We gave up waiting and had told the manager that we didn't have a good time when asked. It took way too long trying to take off the food never received as well as changing the incorrect wine from our check. We were met with a bunch of excuses and late apologies when bringing up the problems we had. There was no compensation. After speaking to a couple people about it, it's worth mentioning that our group is very ethnically diverse. Hopefully, this wasn't a reason for the poor treatment/service, but it's worth noting. read more

This was my first time here and at first everything seen super nice! The place was good, the service was good. We ordered two plates and the first one arrived and the food was delicious. We waited for the second plate for a good time, and when we asked they said it would usually take 45 min. Couple hours passed, people ate and left and new people came. Finally i saw one of the serve with the plate we ordered and i prepared the table getting ready for another delicious plate... but sad news, the food was for another table, and for someone that came much later than us. We finally decided to asked for the a dessert and they say those were ready and there was no wait time.... It passed another 20 mins and no dessert, so we decided to asked for the check and find another place to get a dessert on our way back home. Hate to put only two stars, since the first plate was great and the wine was good too. They did not charge us for the wine and I am willing to try them later on again, but for now that was my experience. read more

Viva El Gaucho! This place is legit. I came here with a Porteno, someone from the capital city Buenos Aires. They attested to the legitimacy of the place- it even looks and smells like Mendoza they remarked... We tried a flight of whites, a flight of reds, and a sampler plate with Morcilla, a blood sausage, some empanadas, and some proveletta, a gooey cheesy mixture, served with some pieces of hard bread. The food was all marvelous- where else can you find these more daring types of sausages, like a blood sausage! This is authentic stuff. The wine was amazing- loved the Malbecs. They served up 2 malbecs- one high altitude, one low, and a cabernet that exemplified the region's wine. The whites were good, but Argentina is mostly known for its red wines due to the altitude and their fruity, herbaceous deep dark red wines. The staff was great- they had a guitar player out beltin' out the jams on their picturesque patio with a great sweeping view of the hills that surround the place. They have a big fire pit in the middle of the outdoor area, which gives everything a smoky smell, that seems to blend well with the wines. They have lots of outdoor seating under the trees, with comfortable seats, and even little teepees if you wanna do that. I recommend everything here. It's a fun place with excellent wine and awesome food. I wanna come back for one of their outdoor all day grilling sessions that Argentina is so famous for! read more

Very beautiful winery overlooking a gorgeous scenery of lush green trees and magnificent hills. Perfect place to come and relax with friends or family. The back area has an array of different seatings from couches to tables. There was also live music with, I think, the owner singing (who has a great soothing voice btw bravo). Bootleg wine bar labeled as a "winery." No wine is made here, which is fine, but don't call yourself a "winery." The outdoor area was dismal and cluttered - trash piled around. Very random. The "Argentinian chef" was "on vacation in Argentina" so there was no food service. Really?!? It's grilled meat. Figure it out guys. At least put a note online so guests don't come expecting one of the main things you're selling - food. Not worth the trip. Too many other classy real wineries around that are congruent with what you expect out of a wine bar. If they cleaned up the clutter, did a landscape design, and kept a regular cook it would be a nice place worthy of 5-stars. read more

My husband is Argentinean and we cannot say enough good things about El Gaucho. We ate on New Year's Eve. The Al fresco dining is lovely. Adrian and Mirta were wonderful hosts. The food was ALL amazing. This was the best Argentinean food we have ever had, very authentic and delicious. We ate the entraña (skirt steak), provoleta, empanadas, morcilla (blood sausage) and chorizo, the panqueques were amazing. Must go! read more

Gorgeous property with a Hill Country view! The owners are also very kind. As others have mentioned, I do think the chef has changed because the food is lacking the flavor I expected from Argentinian/Latin influence, particularly the steaks and side options. We also went on Easter and expected an egg hunt but only 40 plastic eggs were hid for all of the kids and, within a few minutes of finding the eggs, they asked for them back -while we were having dinner- so they could hide them again a few hours later. That was a bit unexpected. If you're looking for an outing nearby Spicewood, this is an overall pleasant find considering ambience, view, and nice but small wine selection. However, if you're looking for a 5 star dinner and service, try the Cotton Gin in Fredericksburg. It's a similar price point but far exceeds all expectations. read more

Very nice selection of Argentinian wines, light charcuterie and occasional music. We have been there on several occasions and always left having appreciated their wine, food and service. We don't always do the tasting, but will buy a bottle and share it at one of their tables, either inside or out; depending on the weather. What's great about this winery is the owners! Hands down the best food in spicewood - and we've lived here for 15 years , put J5, opies , Apis , and Angels in your rear view and head to el Gaucho - finally a different flair to local cuisine - a bit limited on the menu and not all items are available - as the remote location Keeps the crowds down. This is a gorgeous spot with fantastic Argentinian wine! Met an old friend here tonight who I haven't seen much since she moved to Austin while I was here for a work trip and we had a fantastic time! The wines are tasty and the winery has some great indoor and outdoor seating with fantastic views, way up on a hill. Definitely go check them out! What a true gem of a find - thanks Yelp! More people need to know about this fantastic spot! Whether you reside in the Lake Travis area or downtown Austin, the short trek is certainly worth the reward (only about 30 minutes and the drive is lovely!)! El Gaucho, located in the Hill Country of Spicewood, is a lovely winery set on a sprawling piece of property and serves up true Argentine wines (no offense to all the Texas vines that have gotten so much better in recent years). The very welcoming and nice husband and wife team, Bennett and Argentina born Eugenia, offer 8 different varieties of impressive wines from one of their two vineyards in the heart of Menfoza. The old converted house serves as a very charming tasting room with a small bar and several tables and chairs. The outdoor area has tons of comfy seating areas, mood-enhancing twinkly lights in the trees, heat lamps for the cooler days, a real deal Argentine fire pit (and soon to be completed pizza oven), and several wooden teepees for the kiddos to play on - oh, the patio is also Fido friendly for well-behaved furbabies. There are three tastings choices (please see tip) or you can order by the glass or bottle; all very affordable IMHO for the quality. In addition to the wines, Gaucho also serves up some authentic Argentine cuisine ranging from simple Cheese and Meat Plates to handmade Empanadas, to the very special treat (weather permitting) of a fire pit grilled Argentine Asado [meat] plate on Sundays (particularly during the warmer months). They served up some yummy grilled Chorizo with house-made, spicy chimmichuri on the day of our first visit and consensus seemed it was a big hit - for the four adults and two "halves." ;) I can't believe El Gaucho has been open since last June and I just now found it! Certainly going to be a repeat offender. Highly recommend! It feels like being home, or at dear friends' house, all the whilst being served and educated by two very charming hosts. Salud! read more

Cool place and location, the steaks were cooked to good temperature with good char although pretty much no salt and no smoke flavor which I wouldn't have guessed given they're supposed to be cooked over open wood fire. At $45 for each steak we expected more especially given the rave reviews on their steaks. The house Malbec was also below average at an above average price point. I never leave reviews. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon from Dallas, Tx. We were very excited, since we read great reviews. Honestly, I wouldn't spend the money on it, nor ever come here again. There was only one lady working and no one helped us out at all. They were originally going to set up something "special" since it was our honeymoon and it was not special at all. They were charging us $175 for literally a bottle of cheap champagne and a bowl of crackers and cheese. For what we paid for and what we got I don't recommend it at all. read more

Such a happy place to sit sip wine and enjoy Argentinean wine I was planning to come later date but was in the area so decided to come visit and do a wine tasting . The only negative are the steep prices of the signature main dishes which I will come back to do another review next month to see if they become more reasonable i will post the menu so you can see what I mean the ambiance is do graciously beautiful and live music is a plus. Wines are of Argentian origin and are good but not what I am used to in quality established wines. So if you want a good time this is where the action is! I do know this area is growing by leaps and bounds and one very nice location off 71 in Spicewood Springs.................I recommend bridal parties and girlie time here where the deer roam. read more

We went early on a Friday evening in Aug. There were some others there, but it was surprisingly not busy. I guess still too hot for their outdoor space to be enjoyed at its best. The spacious outdoor terraces welcome you with hill county views. We met the owner who said he owns over 50 acres of wine country in Argentina so that's the actual winery (not at this TX location). We tried both the white and red 3 flights of wine. They were good and paired well with the food. Not my all time favorite, but easy to drink and enjoy . My hubby and I shared the sirloin steak, grilled veggie plate, and corn jalapeño empanada. All were fabulous! Truly, the steak was one of the best we've had in a long time. It was a pleasant quiet date night, low key ...and will easy place to hang with family and friends another time. Our server was fabulous and the owner was kind and informative. We are looking forward to our next visit. Oh yes, they had a super long outdoor bar area, lots of tables to accommodate larger groups, outdoor couches and seating places around the terraces on both sides of the main building and had a fun/looking kids area with small tents and shade for younger kids to run around and play so this place is set up well for families as well as couples. My husband and I went to El Gaucho Winery last night with two other couples and we all had the most amazing time and experience!! The food is excellent to say the very least. By far the best we've had outside of Austin. The sea bass, flank steak, empanadas, roasted vegetables and egg plant ravioli were outstanding!! The service was wonderful - the owner is friendly and warm, the cooks, the servers - everyone was delightful. The ambiance is eclectic and rustic. The view is amazing. I could NOT recommend El Gaucho more. We live about 10 minutes away and this will now be our new go to restaurant!! read more
