Opened in 1930, La Posada Hotel was the "crown jewel" of the Santa Fe Railway and the renowned Fred Harvey Company. Walking around the Hotel are beautiful native pictures/gallery by their local owner Artist.. We settled in for late Lunch at their "Turquoise Room" restaurant. Its large dining area is inviting and comfortable. The Lass drank a glass of "Lemon Drop Martini".. The Lad, drank a glass of "Espresso Martini" Both drinks tried hard to satisfy us..:) We shared, "Clear Creek Calamari" fried and served with chipotle aioli.. and.. "66 Roastbeef" 1/2 LB of certified ground Angus chuck, fire grilled and served on a brioche bun with red onions, lettuce, tomato, and a side of chipotle aioli dip.. with...yes fresh cut fries. Quite right, This was a delight.. We ended this royal meal w... "Creme Brule", served with fresh whipped cream.. I paired it with the galaxy whisky cocktail which was superb! Breakfast was okay. The coffee tasted extremely burnt and the eggs for the omelette were rubbery. The wait staff was wonderful and very attentive. The dining room was decorated well, and very quiet.

The shop is warm, inviting, and offers plenty of seating. They have a roastery onsite and roast their own coffee. I ordered an almond milk latte with honey and cinnamon as well as an egg, cheese, and potato breakfast burrito. The latte was great. However, the burrito was mostly potatoes, very little egg which was very disappointing. I had to cut it open and look for the eggs. Other than that, I had a great experience!

They are huge and delicious and you can get them smothered with cheese or bacon or whatever. They also have breakfast items, crepes, salads, sandwiches, ice cream, and some pretty fancy coffee drinks. Now about those hot dogs: We tried the Take It Easy dog (ketchup, mustard, diced onions) and the Kansas dog (bacon, cheese, and BBQ sauce). The Take It Easy may have standard toppings but the dog and bun are excellent. The Kansas dog was supreme. The dog, bun, and the toppings were fantastic. I don't know why the little town of Winslow has such good hot dogs but it just shows you never know what you may find.

My husband went with the 3 barria tacos and I ordered the street tacos - one barria, one carne asada and one chicken. The barria was the best hands down! We left Shorty's with a new favorite taco and to hopefully find a recipe that matches theirs. The young ladies who took our order and served us were very friendly. It wasn't too busy so we had the chance to talk for awhile and learn the proper way to say "birria". Doesn't matter how you pronounce it - you will not be disappointed! Most of the diners were Navajo and Hopi Elders including an elderly Native War Veteran. I will never forget the kind service, the home made food and the genuine warmth of this place which also serves as a meeting spot for the Community.
