We stopped for dinner in Winslow, AZ and decided to try The Falcon restaurant. We had heard mixed reviews but really liked the items on the menu. We were seated right away. Older Diner style decorations inside. The guy serving was nice and checked on a few times. The cheese sticks were really good. The Quesadilla had a little too much cheese, but it was good. I also got the chicken fried steak dinner special- which was just okay. The mashed potatoes came out luke warm and the gravy seemed a little cooler than I expected. But the serving size was more than I could eat anyway. We wanted to try their many pies, but didn't have room to do so. It was a good experience, but not great. They do have a lot on the menu to try, so I do wonder what some other items may be like. So maybe another trip and we' ll try out some other food or the pies! read more

My wife and I have stopped here for breakfast numerous times. It is an old style, simple and clean restaurant. The food and service are always good. Today, we both ordered Huevos Rancheros with green chile sauce. Excellent! The chili sauce had a nice bite and we were provided with a small side of HOT green sauce for spicing it up even more. This place is definitely worth the stop if you are passing through Winslow. read more

Waited an hour for food as everyone that came after us got their plate. Then after waiting the hour we overheard someone say that the ticket was barely getting put in. Then we asked the server about timing and she simply said "you can leave if you want". I'd rather sh*t in my hands and clap, than go back there for round two. Never got the food btw. read more

I ordered the falcon fish dinner which described three large golden fried pollack. What I received was very small potions of fish. The meal came with vegetable medley of corn and carrots as well as a potato of your choice and a big white roll. I did not get the carrots and corn. It's probably the top 5 worst meals I've ever eaten. Green beans straight out of a can, French fries would have been good if they cooked them done, but they needed about 50% more fry time. The country style steak was a greasy Hamburger patty coated in flour and fried. The rolls were out of a pack, sprayed with butter flavored Pam and microwaved until the bottoms were hard. Cheeseburger looked good but my son said it was mediocre. I hate to give such a low score, but this meal had no redeeming qualities. read more

This is probably the worst restaurant ive ever been to! I have no idea how they managed to be open so long. My husband & i ordered Mexican dishes bc its really hard to get bad mexican but somehow this place managed it! I ordered 2 carne asada tacos with rice & beans. Husband ordered carne asada enchiladas with red sauce rice & beans. My soft tacos were not cooked and the carne asada was burnt to a crisp with char and grizzle all over it. The salsa tasted like tomatoes paste. The rice was clumpy & tasted like the mexican rice you cook at home in the microwave bag. The refried beans were dry and had a skin on them like they were old & been sitting for a while. Cheese was not melted at all. Husbands enchiladas also contained burnt charred and grizzle meat. Cheese was not melted, tortilla not cooked and red sauce on top was cold to touch & obviously from a can. His rice & beans looked & tasted just like mine. It was truly horrid. We nibbled a bit on pieces of meat that we could eat bc we were starved from our 7 hr car ride but really did not eat anything much. We did not want to complain & just wanted to pay & leave as we still had 4 hrs left in car trip.... The bill came & we couldn't believe it was $43 for the 2 awful meals & 2 soda. When we went to pay lady asked how our meals were & my husband asked if she wanted the truth & she said yes. He told her exactly what the issues were and she was nice enough to comp our bill and discounted it to $21.00 I really wanted to like this place bc its not a chain & my husband & i love to support locally owned restaurants but honestly id never go back & im surprised they are not out of business. read more

The people were very friendly but the food was horrible. We ordered Mexican food thinking you can't ruin Mexican food. How wrong we were. The food came out cold and I sent my food back. My husband has a thing about sending his food back. He used to be a cook and he told stories about what cooks did to food when it got sent back. Even after sending it back to get microwaved it was still terrible. The rice was crunchy like it had been cooked way too many times. The only thing good on my plate was the beans. My husband asked for some chips and salsa.. The waitress told him they are like $5.75 extra. We have never heard of chips and salsa being extra. That is appalling. I am sure glad we are from out of town so we don't have to go there again. I do not understand how this restaurant stays in business because it was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. We didn't stand on any corners in Winslow AZ this morning, nor spend an interminable length of time contemplating the good, the bad, and the ugly of life. What we did was head directly to this corner of the town for breakfast at the only non-fastfood restaurant open on this Sunday morning. We were super happy to find this little family restaurant open, and I was pleasantly amused by the decor that probably hasn't changed in the last 60-odd years. Raz ordered me coffee as I went to wash up, and it arrived just as I came back from the immaculately clean ladies room. That cup wasn't empty for the rest of our visit. Our lovely server was so very pleasant and prompt with refills that I was filled with a joyfully caffeinated glow well before our huge plates of food arrived. I'm not giving any stars for quality on the food, but an $11 breakfast that could easily feed 2-3 people is a good value regardless of taste. read more

Now we found this place on accident and once we got in we knew we hit the jackpot can't say it's a new spot because it's been around since 1955 kind of hidden away. The decor is vintage- it has an original mural from the 1950s. All tables and benches are also original (the benches have been reupholstered as needed). Honestly I'm very disappointed with how the food turned out. The best part of our meal was probably green chile fries (even though the fries weren't seasoned and the green chile tasted canned.) I do not recommend the Mexican steak, I was asked how I wanted it done and I replied medium. In return I got a well done steak that tasted like a rubber boot. The steak was not seasoned at all and full of grissle. The beans tasted canned and rice was dry and unseasoned. Now for the country style steak, it was way too salty, corn tasted like it was frozen not fresh and the baked potato tasted like it was "baked" in the microwave. BUT, the service was great! We asked around Winslow, where was a good country diner to eat at and everyone pointed us to Falcons. We walked in and it smelled like mom was in the kitchen cooking. It's not a fancy place may need a little facelift but that shouldn't deter you from a good meal. Its a seat yourself place but that didnt mean you were going to get bad service, in fact, the staff was friendly and quick -bringing our refills before we were done with our first drink-. Our plates came to the table and you couldn't see much of the plate from all the food. I like the location on Route 66 near I40. The ambience is alright. The staff is busy and friendly. I sat down and was greeted by Sharon. She was a really nice server and she brought me water and coffee. After a few minutes I ordered the 2 egg, 4 bacon, hashbrowns, and wheat toast. I asked for the eggs to be over medium - they were way over cooked. The bacon was overcooked and just hard. The hashbrowns were awful. I am not sure what that taste was. The toast was great. We were traveling from the Grand Canyon to Holbrook and stopped in here for dinner after going to The Corner of Winslow. While the outside is definitely not fancy, and the inside is that of a typical diner, the service and food are AMAZING! I highly recommend the mozzarella sticks.
