I love the décor throughout the restaurant, especially the colorful art on each of the table and chair. The menus cover a wide range of Mexican food and drinks. I went around lunch hour and got the lunch special Shrimp Fajita. The food came out piping hot and love the taste of some charred shrimp and the veggies. I also love their bean and rice.

Was traveling here to go to Cedar Point, I can say I definitely was not disappointed. The food was delicious. I got the Strawberry Lemonade, and it was much bigger than I thought and it came with a color changing spoon. I tried the Pollo Loco since I saw it recommended in other reviews, and I was not disappointed. The prices are also really decent as well. If you are looking for somewhere unique and delicious to go, El Grand Patron is an amazing choice.

I am sorry, but I think I have become a bit jaded due to living in SoCal for 2+ decades and being spoiled by the plethora of choices when it comes to good Mexican food establishments. This was my first visit to Patron and to me, the food was merely so-so. Nothing to write home about. My search for a truly good Mexican food experience in NW Ohio continues.

There was only one other group of diners when we arrived around 2p. This restaurant came highly recommended by my family who is from Sandusky, so we were excited to try it. After we sat down the host gave us the menus which smelled as if they were just cleaned with lemon Clorox wipes. Pee-u! Not my favorite smell. My sister and niece had margaritas on the rocks and when the drinks arrived the drinks, were brown in color. My sister tasted it and made a face and told me to try it... yuck! What was that taste? It tasted like a chemical like a cleaner. My sister and niece stated to the waitress that they were undrinkable and asked for beers instead. My sister, who is never mean, was very polite explaining to the waitress about the taste and that possibly the lime mixture had turned bad. The waitress looked pissed and said ok and failed to remove the undrinkable drinks that had been pushed to the edge of the table. She copped an attitude after that. Nastily describing the food when I asked a question. She took 20 minutes to return forgetting the beers and finally took our orders. And about 15 minutes later brought their beers. We should have left but we were hungry and still having hope at decent food. My food, the inside out burrito with steak, was good, but my sister's food was terrible. Again the cleaner smell and taste were in the beans. Strange flavor. My niece liked her tacos, but the beans spread on her plate also tasted like chemicals. (Had they just cleaned up after the lunch rush???) It was about 2. The decor inside the restaurant was fun and colorful. But a restaurant should be on the food not the decor. After getting our bill, the waitress left the margaritas on the bill, instead like most places, taking them off. When we got up to leave we noticed the other patrons that had come in since we arrived had ordered margaritas and they were NOT brown like ours that were still sitting in the table. (See photos). Very sad experience. We are visitors so I'm sure El Grand Patron won't care that we will never we return.

I think the food was good. The service was very slow and lacked personality. The ambiance was beautiful.

Can I give MORE than five stars?? Several of us were in town for a convention back in May. We had…read morebeen in town all week and were worn out by the expensive prices and not-so-good food at the convention center. So we elected to venture out of the resort for some Mexican food. AM I GLAD WE DID!! The reviews looked solid, so we landed on Casa Real. It was small and busy - oh, and COLD outside. We walked in, and the front area was packed. We put our name down, and they said 45 minute wait and asked if we could wait in our car or outside. Like fools, we waited outside. In t-shirts. In May. With a 48° temp and decent winds. After about 20 minutes, I walked back inside to see if we were moving up the list. This happened several times before the wait staff said, "You've been incredibly patient. I'll get you in next." That was a surprise, but she could see that were cold. : o) Now we could've gone anywhere else - Mexican food or not - but we were hell bent on Mexican food at this location. We could not understand why it was so busy. Many folks came in, saw the wait time, and left. Then it occurred to me when I looked at the shirts of the staff - we were there on Cinco de Mayo! What fools! Of all days to visit the small, quaint location was the one day you probably DIDN'T want to go due to how busy they were. But then we got in and got seated... Explosions of atmosphere, pure comedic behavior by our server (shorter male who was from out of state), and the food! Man, as good as our food was - dare I say the best Mexican food I've ever eaten?? - the server just sent it overt the top. He was so, so good. Timing was impeccable, attitude couldn't have been better, and he was b-u-s-y with multiple tables. My go-to is always ground beef enchiladas and tacos, but this day I got street tacos with shrimp. The others got a multitude of options as well. Everything we had, we were incredibly happy with the results. We all kept just saying, "MAN, that was great!" I would love, LOVE to have this in my hometown (many states away). But if I did, I would surely weigh in north of 300 pounds. Highly recommended, very authenticate, and quite possibly the best place to eat in Sandusky!
