I had the chiquelas, which was filling and delicious. My son had the beet ball sub, which he loved. We shared spicy tofu bao, and carrot lox which was so like salmon lox it was amazing. My wife had rice and pigeon pea soup, which she liked. I had a flight of beers which were amazing. The only issue was my 11 year old son. The online menu had 5 options for kids, but when we got there, they only had three. He got the mariana noodles, but it wasn't enough for him. My wife ordered the lox after this and asked for the crackers on the side for him, but the chef wouldn't do it. They offered the lox without the crackers, so this seemed a little inflexible. Had an enjoyable experience at El Grifo in Caguas when on a trip to San Juan! Had seen this restaurant come up on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives & was dying to try it. Food & Drink - Large collection of craft/local beers & beer flights offered. Really enjoyed the coconut soup. Pizza & sliders were very good but just really large portions. Did not feel that the bolognese pasta was as good as it was raved up to be. Overall no complaints but I'd say average as far as vegan food goes! Service - really kind staff & friendly service that will let you taste the beers & give recommendations on the menu! Ambiance - fun vibe, seems like sometimes they have live music. We sat at the bar & enjoyed talking to the staff. Glad we tried out the spot, but not sure I'd return - I'd say some of the dishes do need a little tweaking but overall have potential! read more

Went here after going to the Botanical gardens nearby. Great vegan place. The owners are very friendly and explained the food and where they sourced the ingredients. Cute place. We saw this restaurant on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on the Food Network. Service is excellent. Food is fresh and made to order so give yourself time to enjoy the experience. Restaurant is clean. I recommend reservations to make sure you get a table as there are about 10 tables. There is also seating at the bar. They have a brunch menu first and then lunch afterwards. Pumpkin waffle was filling and savory. You can easily share with someone. We met the owner who is extremely nice and appreciative of every customer. read more

This was a very refreshing meal here in Puerto Rico! As a vegetarian it is hard to find meals to eat that are satisfying and NOT fried. El Grifo helped me feel full and fabulous!! The tea was refreshing and had just a hint of matcha, I loved it but if you want the matcha flavor this might not satisfy your craving. The green life pizza was amazing, the pesto was tasty and light. My boyfriend had the cocopao soup, I had a taste and it was very delicious the coconut on top really added a nice and different flavor. DO NOT GET TAKEOUT HERE!!! Came to dine in once and had a lovely time. The next weekend they were open, I wanted to go again but the timing didn't work out with other stuff I wanted to do so I settled for getting takeout. I rolled up right about when my order was supposed to be ready and the doors were all locked. The front door has a doorbell, but despite seeing lots of people inside, they didn't answer it. The order confirmation directed me to call a number when I arrived. I did THREE times and nobody answered. And yes, I did wait between calls since I knew they might just all have their hands full momentarily. It was probably 10 min between my first and last call. I finally just started banging on the back door, and someone came, said she would check on it, and then shut and locked the door back in my face. About 10 minutes later, she brought an order out for someone else and told me she would be right back with mine, then again shut and locked the door in my face. Finally got my food about ten minutes later...half an hour after it was promised and after spending that half an hour literally standing outside on a street corner. Never offered to let me sit down while I was waiting or told me it would be a while and would I mind coming back (because then I would have gone next door for sangria) or offered me a cup of water or even apologized for the wait! I've only ever had worse service once in my life, and that was at a crappy sports bar. This is the first time I ever thought about walking out on a takeout order and disputing the charge with my credit card. Incredibly rude personnel. I've never regretted giving a tip more than I did then. The food was still pretty good though. So, bottom line, two grudging stars for this visit...negative stars for service, but the food was actually good. Plus an extra star for the lovely time I had last time. This place deserves 5 stars and nothing left. My only hope is that I wish my stomach was big enough so I could try more items. Everything that I had was delicious, and full of flavor. I loved the buffalo "wings", the soup, and the chickpea "steak". Normally I do not go for the food items that mimic animals, but the fact that they used chickpeas as a base caught my interest. I am glad it didn't taste exactly like steak, but it had wonderful flavor with a Smokey hint which I loved. The sweet potato paired with the plant "sour cream", and chives were delectable. My boyfriend and I stopped in by chance;although I had it saved as a place I wanted to check out I didn't realize it was close to cigar museum and art museum nearby. I had the stuffed quinoa pesto mushrooms(setas gratinadas)and my boyfriend had the cocopao. Both were absolutely delicious. I was pleasantly surprised the pesto didn't have an overwhelming taste of basil;it was well balanced with its other components. As they are about to change their current menu one item I would like them to keep is the cocopao. Excellent food, and even better service. The waitress explained very well our questions on the menu items, and you can tailor each plate to your liking. Food taste has been amazing, with texture and flavor being their priority. I love the "carrot lox" as appetizer, the "Beet ball marinara" for main course, and the triple chocolate cake. The variety of draft beer and homemade drinks is a nicely taken plus. We have been regular customers from the beginning of their "adventure", and will keep coming to find out what the chef's new creation is. If you are a "late riser" their brunch menu is more than enough to keep you full the whole day. For that I recommend the pumpkin pancakes or the "Boricua Sapiens" omelet, depending on whether you have a sweet or salty tooth, respectively. They have three venues: downstairs air conditioned, upstairs air conditioned (and less noisy), and outside tables on the sidewalk. Their webpage design allows for reservations on any of the three, which makes it even more appealing depending on your atmosphere's preference. As far a service, they do not rush you to order, the meals come within an appropriate timeframe, taking into consideration almost every dish is prepared fresh, and they use technology for menu selections, with "special requests" taken care of immediately. You don't have to wait for the waitress/waiter to come by to make changes/additions to the order. I truly believe they have taken the words "restaurant service" to another level. This review is overdue...based on a visit in January. I actually took my non vegan nephew to this location during a trip to Puerto Rico to visit my family. Suggested to me by my wife, and not too far from my dad's town, my nephew and I decided to give it a try. Want a great eating experience!! I've been vegan for 5 years and watching my nephew eat all of the vegan food was awesome. He actually enjoyed the food. He had their signature buffalo cauliflower dish and lived it!! I had the eggplant and shared some of it with him and he ate it all...and he doesn't really like eggplant!! Atmosphere is pleasant, a bit of an echo, great craft beers, that my nephew enjoyed and the food was well prepared. I definitely recommend this location to any vegan visiting Puerto Rico. This was one of my favorite meals in Puerto Rico. We arrived dirty and tired from hiking, and stressed and grumpy because it was late, but this experience cheered us up and made it all worth it. Our server José explained and translated the menu with a lot of detail. I love that they are promoting and part of the agroecology/permaculture movement and working with farmers who are preserving Taino oral traditions. It is very hard to find food grown on Puerto Rico elsewhere, or quality vegetarian food of any kind. And the food was delicious! The veggie loaf and quinoa salad bowl were both flavorful, filling, nutritious, and unique. Appetizers (chili and cracker with tapenade) were also great. The beer list had some great local beers, I had a golden stout from REBL craft brewery. Highly recommend! read more

Finding good vegan food while traveling can be challenging, but I'm always up for a challenge! So we went off the beaten path to try this place and I couldn't be happier! Honestly Puerto Rico was surprisingly very knowledgeable and accommodating when it came to vegan food (adding it to my list of reasons why I love PR). Anyways, we rented a car and drove to Caguas (about 36 minutes outside of San Juan). This restaurant seemed to be located in a safe enough area bcuz there were a lot of residences off the Main Street. The actual place was beautifully decorated! I loved the rustic feel of it. The staff was also amazing! They were so nice and clearly proud of the work they do; I loved seeing that. So the food! I Almost ordered the entire menu! Lol I tried the soup: cocopao and it was a mixture of rice and beans soup with coconut taste to die for! We also tried the "boneless buffalo wings" best cauliflower wings I've had! As a main course: we had the pizza and the vegan loaf; both were just soooo delicious! To end the meal we had their raw vegan chocolate cake, which is the only reason I went there in the first place hahahaha and it was sooo worth it! It taste even better than it looks on the pictures! All in all this is a new favorite spot for me! And next time I'm in Puerto Rico I will most definitely return! I also loved that they work with local farmers; helping each other out and serving the community is just an amazing concept.
