This little place is AMAZING every single time. I've been fortunate to have been returning here for almost 20 years. The food here is consistent. The burritos and tacos along with the meats inside are all tender and tasty. But get this, they also serve crazy good soups/ caldos. Beef or chicken depending on what day of the week. Their salsas are a completely satisfying addition to the meals. The salsa are tasty and spicy in that order. They are perfect for all they have to offer from burritos to sopes to quesadillas. If your in mid town LA, slightly west of downtown, don't hesitate to stop at this authentic eatery. Parking is on the street or in the lot on the east side of the building. Yes, the music comes on a little loud about every five minutes but that's part of the authenticity. Thank you Grullense for the years of more than satisfying food. I eat from here really often. Close to once a week. I should start exploring their menu more as I only seem to get burritos, tortas and tacos here. I haven't had all the meats, but they have a really solid, well seasoned carne asada. I also like tripa tacos from here, which you should order crispy/well done. Their pastor isn't bad, but I hardly ever order it. They make a really saucy pastor that gets messy, which some people prefer. The milanesa torta is a solid 8/10 too. Their only shortcoming is their corn tortillas. Not awful or anything, just, could be better. read more

I happened upon El Grullense somewhat by chance, and I'm extremely happy I did. It's one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles, hands down. I only had one item here, but it's absolutely amazing here: the carne asada tacos. It came with the classic fixings of onion, cilantro, and two choices of salsa (a red which was spicy and a green which was medium). The meat was the perfect consistency and flavorful as can be; it ranks among the best carne asada tacos I've ever had. The prices are also phenomenal, with each taco resting at $1.50. The indoor area is small, but there's enough seating available to snag a seat. You can also order at the outside takeout window for quicker ordering. Again, I'd just like to reiterate that if you're reading this, you should get up and go to El Grullense immediately. read more

This it THE SPOT. I stopped by tonight and we got the chicken tacos and they were absolutely divine. We got the chicken tacos and they were some of the best tacos I've ever had. I usually like my hot sauce to be hot, and their verde isn't really spicy but it definitely leaves a burning (in a good delicious way) sensation afterwards. Parking was a bit difficult. We just parked outside in the yellow and ran in to grab tacos but it's a very crowded area. The tacos were ready quickly. read more

This is literally my favorite Mexican restaurant to eat at in LA. AI usually get the Cabeza tacos or burritos, its so mouth watering and tender, and the pickles veggies TO DIE FOR !!! If that not enough to make your mouth water the green salas and red salsa together on any of their dishes is a treat for your taste buss that completes the meal. I've never had anything disappointing from them and their delivery is always on time. read more

I absolutely love this place it is my #1 taco spot in Los Angeles! I have been coming to this location for years thanks to an Ex-boyfriend shout to you lol! Anyways, these taco's right here are BOMB.com and not to mention that special red sauce that is spicy and just freaking amazing!!! I can literally have one sauce for each taco.They give you a good amount of meat every single time and the taste has never changed so far throughout the 7 years I have came to this place. Love their onions and carrots too! This place is not for the faint hearted nor for everyone. It is a hole in the wall for a reason so don't expect no 5 star service or top notch hygiene, but that's because tacos are just tacos and what I mean by that is, I do not believe that Mexico uses gloves for tacos?! Bomb tacos: meat al pastor. I usually upgrade to the burrito al pastor however since the meat is SO DELICIOUS. I then go all in with yet another taco al pastor because it's that good! They also sell Mexican Coca Cola in medio litro to wash down the helpings. The people who work there are super efficient and friendly. They also now take ATM cards. Some people have commented that the food is so so. Well, I noticed they only got the chicken tacos. If being in our part of town makes you feel the neighborhood is 'sketchy' (stupid comment made by some LA transplant CAN'T STAND YOU PEOPLE), then please do us all a favor and stay your ass on the Westside and don't venture east of Robertson. For everyone else who isn't intimidated or doesn't believe in stereotypes and wants great tasting food at more than reasonable prices El Grullense is the spot. Only in LA could my Filipina friend introduce me to a Mexican place across from her home many years ago. Everyone comes here. After much important and time consuming research conducted here, let me tell you: this is as legit as it gets people. Authentic Mexican people making authentic Mexican food. The tacos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas and just about everything else are good. They make their own salsas, pickle their own jalapeños and carrots and the guys who work here are always nice. Even their aguas are good. My personal favorite is the Jamaica (it's not too sweet) but the horchata is great too, if you're into that muddy water I guess. I'd rather give them my money than King Taco or El Taurino, both of which who are down the street from El Grullense. If you know me, you know the passionate hate I possess for Taurino. Anything to drive those greedy SOBs outta business. So go ahead and tell all your friends! This secret wasn't going to stay secret for too long anyway. read more

I figured by the looks of this somewhat run-down looking taco shack that it would be a solid choice for some authentic Mexican food, but I was stunned into taco worship when I tried this place. When I go to a taco stand or truck for the first time, I usually order different kinds of tacos, just to get an idea of where their strengths are. At El Grullense I tried carne asada, carnitas, al pastor, cabeza, and lengua. The lengua was the only disappointment--not because it was bad, it actually had great flavor, but it just wasn't amazing like all the others, and I've had better at Cactus. As for the rest of the meats, across the board they were juicy, tender, flavorful. The horchata was horchata, decent, nothing spectacular, but essential with the tacos. I returned the next day and got a burro with carnitas. Burrito worship ensued. This place is amazing and deserves all five stars. I'm ecstatic to have found a new go-to taco place down the block from my new apartment so quickly. Also--kudos to the first reviewer and all, but I don't really consider its location ghetto. Maybe the neighborhood looked different last year, or maybe 'cause I'm from a city and my idea of "ghetto" is, well, really ghetto, I have no problem walking here at night by myself. read more

Not as bright or clean as King Taco down the street, but the cabeza burrito was superb ($4.75). Juicy, hot, just yum all over. It was definitely something out of an old dusty cowboy town in Mexico. With a huge jukebox that takes up 1/10 of the space in the whole joint. Old faded photos/posters of bullfights plaster the walls. The 3 guys that work there are super busy running around making food, taking money, and cleaning up trays but they are cute about it. Highly recommended. read more
