I ordered three chicken tamales a la carte, which were incredibly delicious despite the appearance -- I had to brake my car quite harshly on the way home, which sent my precious cargo flying off the front seat. I was a little baffled to open up my container to find skinned masa sitting in sauce. I've never gotten to try tamales, but I was under the impression they were typically steamed in corn husk. I'm guessing they removed it for my order for ease (or were worried I'd eat the corn husk...) I wasn't greeted walking in. the workers were to busy talking to each other. They looked at me and never said nothing. I sat at the bar. the bartender didn't greet me either. I visited here on a very special day and wanted to have a quick bite of authentic Mexican food. I did my research and saw this was in a strip plaza and not anything fancy and was perfect for the mood. The interior is small with vibrant color and a little bar away from most tables. I ordered the cueritos which I thought was cooked pork. When it came, visually, it was clearly not what I intended to order. Cueritos are brined pork fat and did not look appealing at all! I let the server know and ordered more food and I would try the wrong ones first and have some back up. So I dig in to try it out and dam, the flavor was incredible! I haven't tasted anything like that before. It ended up being the best flavor out of the pastor and carnitas. I even saved some for later. Hubby had 2 beef burritos (they aren't as large as some places), son had cheese quesadilla, & I had carne asada torte. It was good but I would have left the carrots off had I seen it came with them. I've been going to El Guerro since they've opened and I just realized that I've never written a review for them. I've been sick for the last week and soup sounded so good to me, so I place a pick up order for the chicken soup and OMG it's delicious, yes I've had it before, but it's so good it made me want to write a review lol. The food is amazing! It's a locally owned restaurant and sometimes they may be slow but it's well worth the wait!

FYI The restaurant is located to the left of Publix in the same plaza. We stopped by this week and loved what we saw, even though it's not fully open for dine in service yet with Covid. Nonetheless, it was Taco Tuesday, and they were offering a deal on tacos (I can't remember quite what it was), and also playing up their family deals, which seem like a good bang for your buck. I ordered arroz con pollo and sopapilla with Jarritos, and my wife ordered a tamale meal with flan. Everything came out in about ten minutes, during which time we learned that they will soon have a liquor license (margaritas on the menu!!). We also read their story about "El Guero" and how his carnitas recipe is to die for, so next time we'll definitely try that. With everything, our order came to about $30, which we thought was a great value. When we got home and dug in, the food tasted great, even though it had to withstand the drive home! They even packed our to go order with some chips and salsa. We'll definitely be back to try the carnitas and have some tres leches (they didn't have the cake on the menu at the moment because of the pandemic). I normally come here b/c it's close and the food is good. but this is the first time that I have been sitting for 10 minutes at the bar and no one has brought out chips or even acknowledged me. This is the worst service that I ever had here, to the point that I'm shocked! Still no chips. A guy came in next to me and got chips. Am I invisible? I got up and left the establishment. I got the number 6 and when I tried to eat the burrito the bottom was really soggy and when I try to eat it, everything fell out. I also got a taco as well as my sister and her tacos and my tacos were like really soggy and broke apart. The queso was ok I've had better. Was craving guacamole and saw a sign for this place as I was headed home. Went in and asked for guacamole without looking at the menu- the waitress gave me an option for creamy guacamole dip or chunky guac. I went with the chunky and less than 5 min later, I was handed a bag with fresh hot chips, and some of the best guacamole I've had all year. It was clearly just made with chunks of avocado, tomatoes and onion and a bright taste. Plus I got a container of salsa that was the perfect compliment to the guac. It had some heat but was so good. I ate a good amount on my way home but was pleasantly surprised that my chips were still pretty warm when I got home. I'm glad I took a risk and checked this place out, it was $6 well spent. read more

The great reviews from my neighbors brought me in and the service is great and servers are sweet and gracious. My challenge with Mexican food in GA is that I'm from Cali and used to the best. Food flavor, style, presentation, freshness etc was just very bland and average at this establishment . I ordered chicken soup and an a la carte cheese enchilada, hubby got an asada burrito. This was our first time at the restaurant. Very small dining area. The salsa was literally Pace brand and the chips were from a grocery store they then fried in some oil to make them warm. I know the salsa was Pace because we use to eat it all the time when I was a kid. They're infamous carnitas was so dry I couldn't finish the taco. I was so disappointed because I saw them advertise it so much on how good it was. Our waitress barley knew any English and when I asked her questions she didn't know what I was saying so she asked the very busy other waiter what I needed in Spanish and we had to wait for her to be done with her other customers to translate for her. She never came back to the table to give us our check so we had to go to the register to check out. The one star is for my chile relleno that was great. The reviews are right about terrible customer service. I went for the first time. Took a few minutes for anyone to acknowledge I was there. Then the girl asked me how many. I said just one. She said you can sit at the bar if you like. I said I didn't want to. She then it will be just a minute. I couldn't hear her because she's the only idiot in there wearing a mask. Found ourselves in a bind on a Saturday night with most of the restaurants in the area closing at 9pm. Stumbled on this place and called within 14 minutes of them closing. Not only did they answer, they allowed us to place an order knowing they were about to close. Major points right there for sure! We ordered the steak tacos, refried beans, queso and rice. Everything was fresh and you can taste the authenticity in each bite. Pleasantly surprised by this. We got 8 tacos, half supreme nachos, a la carte chile relleno & carne asada chilaquiles with green sauce. Q deliciosa! Definitely recommend this place! Portions are pretty big as is the flavor. This is a run of the mill strip shopping center Mexican Restaurant. The servers are super nice but the food and drink are below average. The salsa that comes with chips is probably poured right out of a can. The margs especially have a pre-made taste with no discernible tequila inside. The food was eatable but nothing great. This is still our fav Mexican place in the area; your typical neighborhood Mexican restaurant (as far as the menu)), and the margaritas are top drawer. We've ordered food from here twice this week--it's that good! Located in the Publix shopping center on Five Forks & Killian Hill in Lilburn. Excellent street tacos! Carnitas are their specialty. We ordered the 1 lb Carintas family order the first time and that is a great deal! It easily feeds 4. Their refried beans have a nice flavor-- not boring as they often are at Mexican restaurants. We also have tried taquitos, chicken enchiladas, Chile Rojo (aka Chile Colorado), fajita quesadilla. The fajita steak was perfectly cooked-- tender and flavorful. Portions are generous. Prices make this restaurant a great value, as well. I look forward being able to dine-in after the pandemic. For now, we'll add this to our regular take-out rotation. Do Guero is definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants in our area. read more
