We came here one a Monday night and there were several tables occupied which is always a good sign. We grabbed one of the two remaining tables and while looking at the menu were given warm chips and homemade salsa which was really hard to stop eating, especially when you're hungry. Food wise, that turned out to be the highlight. Anyway, I ordered the El Guero Soecial: steak with cactus, and all the fixings. However when I ordered the steak "medium rare" I felt that it is at this point when the server should have told me that the steak is prepared in beef jerky-like strips, more appropriate for a fajita plate. But even for fajitas, they are served on the dry side, salty, with a texture more resembling leather than beef. It's not so bad when you combine it with the accompanying pico de gallo, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, rice/beans and wrap it into a warm corn tortilla. No lime sightings anywhere for some reason. Now, the cactus: maybe if you're a fan of Okra or any other slimy textured veggie, you might like it, but I just can't bring myself to enjoy what I would describe as a green pepper that was trampled over by a garden snail. But try this desert delicacy and judge for yourself. Finally, do NOT order the chicken wings. I paid $15 for six small, burnt, overly salted wings. Not sure what I was thinking. I was extremely disappointed with my experience here and unfortunately would not recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Joshua Tree. From the moment we walked in, the environment felt unwelcoming. Our waitress already seemed annoyed, and when we asked about the restaurant's confusing happy hour information, her response was, "I don't know, they're just throwing shit in there, honestly." I was shocked by how unprofessional that was, especially considering we were simply asking for clarification about their own menu. She also couldn't tell us what days or times happy hour actually applied. It got worse when another employee came in for her shift and started discussing the same happy hour confusion with our waitress within earshot of customers. During that conversation, she used the R word to describe the situation. As someone who works with children with disabilities, I found that extremely offensive and inappropriate. There is absolutely no reason for employees to be using language like that in front of customers. The food and drinks were just as disappointing. We ordered the coctel de camarón, and it was honestly one of the worst I have ever had. It had almost no flavor or seasoning. We politely asked for additional Clamato to try to make it taste better, but even that couldn't save it. I specifically told our waitress that it had no flavor, and instead of offering to replace it, remove it from the bill, or even ask if there was anything she could do, she simply said, "Okay." We also ordered a mangonada margarita without alcohol. It arrived blended, which wasn't made clear on the menu, and it was extremely watered down and flavorless. Even the rim had almost no flavor. To make matters worse, we saw it advertised for $8.99 but were charged $10.99. When I questioned the price, our waitress said $8.99 was only during certain hours. When I asked what hours, she couldn't tell me, which goes right back to the happy hour confusion we had asked about from the beginning. I ordered the camarones a la diabla, which was probably the most decent thing we tried. However, my meal was supposed to come with flour tortillas. They weren't brought out until around 20 minutes after my food, when I had already finished eating. The waitress still placed them down and said, "Here you go, if you haven't already finished," even though it was obvious I had. My boyfriend ordered a wet burrito that was supposed to come with sour cream, avocado, and cheese. The presentation did not match what we expected from the menu, and the toppings were placed inside, making everything soggy rather than being served on top. We ended up spending around $70 for two people, and considering the quality of the food, service, and overall experience, it absolutely was not worth it. Between the confusing menu and pricing, poorly prepared food and drinks, forgotten items, lack of concern when we expressed that something tasted bad, and especially the inappropriate language being used by employees in front of customers, this was an awful experience. I genuinely hope management addresses the professionalism of the staff, especially the use of offensive language, and improves the accuracy of the menu, happy hour information, and pricing. I would have appreciated at least a partial refund considering how much of our order we were unhappy with. If you're visiting Joshua Tree and looking for somewhere to eat, especially if you enjoy mariscos, I would personally save your money and go somewhere else. I would not return. read more

Stopped in before entering the park on a Sunday morning. It was a by chance stop and I'm so glad I did. They were busy but very courteous to me being a to go order. Got a breakfast burrito with beans and rice and I have to say one of the best I've ever had. I always say if the beans are good you have a good cook, my compliments to them. I came here for the first time today with my husband and daughter. Mind you, she is only 10 months old, and I have no clue why she chose violence today--but she did! We decided to sit down for lunch, and they had some pretty good deals going on for their specialty enchiladas: only $9.99 for two enchiladas with beans and rice. Hell yeah, dude! You even get to choose red or green sauce and shredded beef or chicken. It was absolutely delicious. My daughter and I shared an enchilada off of the children's menu. I've gotta say, our waitress was pretty freaking cool. She was super understanding of the fact that my child was frustrated because she was hungry, and she was very patient with us--which I appreciate, especially having anxiety in public. The cute little shop has plenty of seating, including kid-friendly options like high chairs and boosters. It's very clean and smells amazing! The food was out fast, hot, and delicious. The staff was friendly, courteous, and kind. Even the customers, who seemed to be regulars, were very understanding of the fact that my 10-month-old "chose violence" today. Where to start because there were so many was in which this *$60 meal for 2* was a crime. I ordered online around 4:45pm for the food to be picked up at 5:45pm and it was very clear that they made it at 4:45pm because everything was *cold*. However, the fries appeared to never have been fresh. They were so stale like from a batch in the morning or the day before. My husband and I both found appeared to be *fruit flies* or some other bugs in our dishes. I ordered a large sized of rice and beans, which used to be a lot bigger. On top of all of this, the prices are just outrageous for the food. Which I realize is a lot of places here, but this place especially for what we got in return. They also added a service fee which I didn't eve notice until after because they hid it, which I am sure doesn't go to employees. I would also bet, based on the locations of people who are posting 5 star reviews that they are paying for reviews. Never going back to this place and I suggest you do the same.
