I had just gotten off of work and me and a coworker went to go sit at the bar and watch college football. I ordered and me and my friend's ID were confiscated and taken to the back. The manager returned and asked me for other forms of ID. I gave him everything in my wallet including ANOTHER form of ID. It wasn't good enough for him. (I AM 25 AND BALDING). I don't look younger than 21.... I eventually got sick of how rude the manager was and I said "let's just go somewhere else" to which he said "that would be great" I will never spend money here ever again. This is a typical Tex-Mex restaurant. Is it the most phenomenal food you've ever eaten? No! But it's certainly not bad. Average! Conveniently located minutes from my house in the movie theater strip mall, we've been coming here for years. The family who runs it is hardworking and nice. And yesterday's lunch was pretty good. Perhaps a bit too much cheese -- I've learned to ask for sauce on the side, rather than poured on -- I was happy with my #3 combo, as was my friend with her tacos. Since I've been here, booths have been reupholstered and the interior jazzed up. At 12 noon, plenty of people were enjoying lunch. We decided to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a couple of tacos and margaritas, even though we don't usually go out for Mexican food. Wanting to embrace the spirit of the day, we chose a local Mexican restaurant we don't normally visit. The afternoon started off well--great service and tasty food. We each ordered a 12-ounce (stated on the menu 12 oz) margarita from their one day only Cinco de Mayo menu. However, when the drinks arrived, we noticed they were served in plastic cups that only hold 10 ounces despite being advertised and charged as 12-ounce margaritas. We politely brought this to the manager's attention, thinking it might have been a simple oversight. Unfortunately, his response surprised us. He aggressively dismissed the concern and insisted we just pay. When I expressed that it was more about the principle--advertising 12oz but serving 20% less--he threatened to call the police if we didn't pay immediately. I calmly invited him to do so, thinking it would help clarify what felt like a bait-and-switch situation. Instead of resolving the issue (basically asking for a $2.00 (20%) discount as advertised); he told us to get the "f" out in front of other customers and 6 members of his staff. Sadly, based on this experience, it seems others might be misled in a similar way for the rest of the evening. read more

The ground beef in my beef quesadilla was very salty and greasy, the rice was almost crunch (so it was not fresh) and the refried beans were just bland. Went here for a family dinner, there was 11 people on our party. Several of the orders were incorrect when brought to the table and we had to get our own silverware because our server was MIA. Maybe consider going to the Woodstock location instead, I've been to both and never have issues at that one. read more

This is my least favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. If it weren't for the nearby movie theater, this place would close. We went on a Friday night. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered a pitcher of Texas Margaritas with light ice. The server must have only heard ice because the glasses and the pitcher were overflowing with ice. The Margarita's were major league watered down. We went up to the bar and asked them to remake it. They took some of the ice out and poured more Margarita mix into the pitcher. We, party of 2, visited El Jinete on a busy Saturday evening. This was prior to going to Movie Tavern so location is great. Lots of variety of options in the menu which made it hard to decide. Caution you on the margaritas though, as they're my kind, strong. We had the Jinete dip as appetizer which I'd highly recommend to give it a try. It's very creamy so recommend to share it as its rich in flavor. Then, I had the Tilapia & Shrimp entry which was the right amount of food and was great. It's not too heavy on the stomach. We also had Flan (which I had been craving badly) and ice cream with chocolate syrup. The flan was good just wish it was thicker. Out waitress was super sweet and came to check on us multiple times. I was incredibly surprised by how delicious the food was! In fact, we've been back several more times! Everything here is either watered down (queso, tequila drinks, salsa) or unseasoned (literally all the meats). Our basket of chips contained a couple of fries, and you could taste that they all were fried in the same oil. My tacos were cold and bland not even the hot sauce could save them. Mandatory disclaimer: this is my first time coming here and it was a busy Friday night while it was raining so it may have been a factor I met my mom and brother here because they were running some errands. It took at least 15-20 minutes to even get the server to NOTICE me. When I got the skinny margarita it tasted like kinda funky water. Another 10 minutes I managed to order food. I got a chicken quesadilla and I had to butcher the it entirely to find anything decent tasting. The chicken was unseasoned, the rice was bland, the beans were basically just mush. I've always had a great experience here. The food is fantastic, especially if you get outside the number combinations. The carnitas are probably the best thing on the menu and the best carnitas I have ever had. The queso is also excellent. I know several of our neighbors just pop in here for the queso, especially if you get the one with chorizo in it. I also very much like the margaritas here. They have several options and will customize one if you don't like the exact ones on the menu. Every margarita I have had here has been excellent. On weeknights they also have great drink specials. So whatever you like to drink, they have a great and affordable option. Lastly, I will say the staff here has always been super friendly. There are two waiters here where we do get slower service and one of them always finds a way to mess up what we order so we know to avoid this person. However, every other waiter, waitress and especially the bartenders are amazing. The others give excellent service that keeps us coming back often. read more

Do NOT go here if you're a vegetarian!!! The salsa was pretty good and the mango margarita but it was all down hill after that. The portions are pretty small and the ingredients did not seem fresh. I got veggie fajitas and I expected it to come with more but it is what it is. My partner got a taco salad and instead of meat she asked for extra veggies like pico, cucumbers and broccoli. She was very disappointed once she received her food because it was almost nothing but lettuce with very little beans at the bottom and a small cup of pico. She asked the waiter if this was really the substitution for meat since meat it is much more expensive and he said yes, that they recently changed their policy 6 months ago so they've cut back on portions and substitutions. It would of been nice to know that before we placed our order. We definitely won't be back again. read more
