Why drive all the way from Phoenix to Reno when you can stop in Tonopah and enjoy the fabulous food at El Marques. Today was two cheese and onion enchiladas, rice and beans. Of course we started with chips and fairly spicy salsa. She had a Chile relleno, cheese enchilada, beans and rice. Loved it all. The margarita was great or so I heard. We ordered food to go, mind you my husband goes there at least once a week beings it's the only Mexican food in town just to get as close as he can to cali food while he's working. We're from Arizona and we're passing through Tonopah. Food here was really good. Staff was very nice and friendly even though it was clear she was short staffed. Food came out quick. When in Tonopah, El Marques provides a very decent place to enjoy some Mexican food along Highway 95. I've eaten here several times over the years and have always enjoyed my meals. Now, it's not your big city, table side guacamole, sort of place, but you can be sure the owners do very well to prepare an enjoyable meal. I've never been disappointed in the service because they always seem to do their best to get everyone served, and at times, it can get busy here. There is a small bar, and they do have a large screen TV which often times is showing sporting events. If you wish to have a margarita, they make a decent version of this too. read more

Overall, the food was good but the service was lacking. We had a large group, eight people total. It took a good 15 minutes for them to get a table together, which was two tables combined. Fine by us, but they definitely aren't equipped for many groups larger than six. It took quite some time for our server to ask us about drinks, then we had to ask the server multiple times for us to ask if they were on their way, and we had to ask separately about chips and salsa. The drinks tasted good but you could tell they had very little alcohol in them. Food took some time to get to us, which was understandable since we had a large group. Everyone at the table was very happy with their meal. We ordered beef tacos, asada tacos, quesadillas, and they were all good. Overall, the food was good but the service wasn't great. My friend and I had been out exploring all day and wanted to grab a late lunch so we stopped into this place. The food was mostly just mediocre. We started with guac, which was basically akin to the avocado dip you can buy at Trader Joe's and then defrost (oddly creamy). The taco with beef was fine, though the beef was a bit overcooked, the tamal was good, and the beans were perfectly fine, though the rice was a bit overcooked and hard. My friend is a pescatarian and apparently they couldn't make certain things with shrimp or vegetarian (despite having shrimp on the menu), which led us to believe things were premade. Honestly this place is the best! Some of the hardest working people are at this Mexican restaurant. It is now our go to on the way to Las Vegas. They are accommodating, I add cheese and a side of limes to carne asada tacos & they're delicious! Staff is starting to recognize us. We had a view of the kitchen and I see everyone washing hands, sweeping and working hard. This seems to be a locals place on the weekend, priced right! We had a big group, the food was good, just waitress didn't have any help keeping up on the drinks, chips and salsa. I have never had a bad meal, always really good food, we made reservations, a couple days in advance for the big group, so they should've been more prepared with staffing to be able to cover and serve the bigger group better than they did. The chips are right out of a bag, the rice tasted like it had been made well over a week ago, the burritos and chimichangas tasted like they came from a gas station and were reheated in a microwave. My friend asked me where I would like to spend my birthday lunch. I said El Marques. We waited to be seated, at which time we were told, no animals allowed. My friend and I both are locals and have been in this restaurant several times. At no time had we been denied service. My friend approached Padero, the owner. The said no dogs allowed. My friend's service dog is registered, and he has cards explaining the reason for the service dog. If you have traveling for a spell, and you need a place to get out of the car and stretch your legs, this is your oasis. This is one of the better restaurants in Tonopah. The sorriest excuse of "Mexican" food I've ever had. What type of mx restaurant only has two types of meat, not cuts. I came here expecting a choice of traditional meats such as carnitas, asada, chorizo. But nope just beef and chicken. No mention of grilled beef or chicken, just "beef and chicken". They have horchata on the menu but when I asked for it they said they didn't have any. Think about it. A Mexican place without horchata. Once we got our food, it was edible. It had no semblance to Mexican food. As someone that grew up in SoCal and lives in NotCal and has visited Baja a few times, I know my Mexican food. The service was great as I was asked if I'd like another beer four times before I could finish the one I was on. The beans definitely had that chunky refried beans taste. We ordered beer from a bottle. There was one bar tender/keep. The atmosphere was definitely a family owned environment that was full of locals. We sat in the bar, but noticed that there were small kids in the same area.
