Good food, good drinks and good service. We went on a Friday night and it was not too chaotic feeling. It felt welcoming and relaxed. They did have a dinner rush but still wasn't overwhelmingly busy feeling. The food did take a bit on the longer side but I promise it is worth the wait. We had the ribeye aguachile and quesabirria tacos. The only suggestion I have is the quesabirrias to be made with a different brand of tortillas if it's not their own. They're a bit thicker and once crisped they can have a tug bite on them. Wish the aguachile ribeye had a side of something to justify the price as it doesn't come with rice, beans or anything else. We happened upon this gem by accident. We were heading home on our road trip and wanted to stop and get a sit down meal instead of fast food and boy are we glad we did. I had the three Carne Asada fusion tacos and my husband had the Camarones el Diablo and both were so good. The tacos were full of flavor with juicy steak, tomatoes, lettuce and cream Fresa. The shrimp were large, plump and tender with a side salad and rice. The shrimp were very spicy which but flavorful. There is a full bar and the margaritas are made to order. There's also a juice bar. Ok, so first, If I could afford it I would eat here every week. The molcajetes are incredible! The presentation is outstanding! The price is high, but it is a specialty food. For a birthday party we ordered 3 for 7 people and ate every bit! But today, we tried the Tuesday street taco lunch specials, a non-menu item. $2 each for carne asada, shredded beef, chicken and chorizo. $3 each for shrimp and fish. We decided to get 2 of each to share between 4 people. They were amazing! Our total bill before tip was $45 which included a coke and two iced teas. The service is always great! Hello, my first time in since I was staying in Bishop for the night, so I stopped by for dinner and ordered the salad and the shredded beef street tacos! Very good and the right amount of food! The chips were good except for the salsa it needed a little bit more zip for me, but that is okay! This place has character and would be a great place to have a lot of friends and family to hang out with for dinner! Plus, it was nice and enjoyable for a Wednesday night and the waitress was kind and had my food out to me as soon as I ordered! We came to the restaurant at a normal hour around 7:30pm and nobody was at the host stand for 30 minutes and then it took another 30 minutes for the waitress to get our order and then it took another hour for the food to start coming out. The salsa and chips are not tasty at all, the salsa super liquify but I didn't want that to determine our order. We order the cocktail of shrimp and octopus and a plate of chile relleno with rice and beans . The octopus was extremely bad! Not edible at all! Hard! Something was very wrong with this seafood! Like if I was pulling a piece of rubber! They really shouldn't be selling seafood! The rice was horrible! I know this is a small town but the quality of their food is horrible! I very gently mention to the waitress about my concerns of the food and she said she would let the "chef" know and came back and said they couldn't do anything about it and all they could do was give me couple shrimps if I wanted, I said no thank you! Molcajetes was recommended by the hotel clerk, where I was staying, on a trip through Bishop, Ca. I'm thinking...taco, enchilada, beans and rice, my go-to combo. That is not this place!! An interesting, provocative menu captures my immediate attention. I decide on the wet burrito, while my friends order green enchiladas and the Chili Rellenos. The flavors in my burrito are so complex and delicious....better than any other burrito I've ever had. Sophisticated even. The pottery tumblers, used to hold beverages, are elegant and fun! My friends were equally enthusiastic about their meals. The staff were all very nice and the service was prompt. We arrived shortly before closing time and they were more than happy to accommodate us. They never rushed us and actually encouraged us to linger, enjoy our meals and have a second margarita. Honest review. First time here visiting from out of town. Firstly the ambience could be a little better but doesn't put you off. The server was friendly and brought drinks quickly. I ordered the ribeye The wait is a little long and we're only 2 other people here. The salsa is amazing. Sweet in beginning then spicy after but not burn your mouth. Writing this while here. Still waiting for main dish. Ok steak was cooked good but very salty. Now I don't eat salt and it's subjective but this was salty. Would I come again? The best chilli rellenos in town, very small bit spicy at all but they are hand made and seeds taken out. Wish the poblano. Chili was smoked or cooked a bit longer. Chicken fingers are decent. Service was slow and our waiter who is Salvadorean was not very attentive. The woman here was much friendlier and offered more attentive service. Horchata is authentic Mexican with lots of cinnamon like traditional Mexican Horchata. Coffee was good and overall good food for a great value. I ordered the bacon wrapped jalapeño's appetizer, they had just the right amount of heat, not too spicy but good jalapeño flavor, filled with cheese and wrapped in bacon, they were cooked perfectly. I had the King molcajete, shrimp, prawns, assorted seafood and mixed veggies, peppers and roasted onions. All served in a hot molcajete and topped with a rich cheese sauce. It was very filling and full of flavor. The molcajete keeps everything hot the whole time. Would not recommend. We went on a Saturday for lunch. Took more than an hour for the food to come out. The salsa was so bad and was a warning for the food to come. Food was tasteless or tasted like cleaning products. Not good at all. I got the protein bowl and nothing about it was good. Bland is the best descriptor. Service was also slow, to order, to get drinks, to get chips and salsa. Maybe we went on a bad day bit the restaurant was empty for a reason. It was also so so hot in the restaurant. The AC wasn't on in the eating area but was on in the back hallway near the restrooms. Save yourself time and bad food. Eat elsewhere. It was also insanely expensive. $40 a plate for sub par food. Food is absolutely delicious! It was so good that we ate here twice. We ordered the molcajete guacamole, tacos, fajitas and margaritas. All the dishes we ordered were served on a sizzling plate, beautifully plated and bursting with flavor. The margaritas were served on a salt rimmed glass and on the rocks (our preference) and they were absolutely refreshing specially after a long day's hike. The ambiance was fantastic, and the spacious dining area with its high ceilings provided me with a sense of comfort, especially considering the recent increase in COVID cases. We sat on a booth which was very comfortable. Service was excellent. Grace (I think, that's her name) served us the first day and Cesar served us the following day. They were both great, responsive and Grace checked on us regularly. We opted for take out the next day since we wanted to enjoy our balcony with a view in our hotel. I forgot my sunglasses and luckily, they kept it for me. Not only are they excellent staff but also honest and patient. Lots of parking! I absolutely recommend this place. read more

Everything was taste, but all of our steaks were over cooked, we ordered medium and they came out well, so if you get red meat and like it more pinkish...might want to ask for rare side. Oddly, the had the best water ever! Seriously the best we have ever had from any cup from any restaurant! How in the world is that??? No idea, but everyone in our party commented on how clear, and clean crisp tasting it was. It was super oddly weird, it was as if they triple osmosis filtered their water and added in some addictive. The wife runs the front and the sons have a bomb pizza place in the corner that I ordered the next day. Hands down best molcajete you will ever have and it was huge. I take a stop at bishop and sleep there just to be able to have this before we head up. Imagine that, taking an extra day on a trip because of how good the flavors were. Thanks! Fourth of July 2024 at 7:00pm in the small town of Bishop, and we're hungry for dinner. Not much is open. This town closes up early. We walk to Molcajetes Steak and Seafood. There's nobody taking names on a list at the door. There's just a crowd waiting to be seated. There are only three servers seating, taking orders, serving, and clearing, working hard. It's a holiday weeknight before a holiday weekend. We wait 45 minutes to be seated. The crowd stays on the honor system, pointing out who is first and next to the hardworking servers. Most of us stand because there's limited seating to wait. We order the Molcajetes A La Mexicana, with asada, jumbo prawns, panela cheese, chicken, chorizo, nopales, and onions. We get rice and beans with it. The molcajetes are the best and most sumptuous molcajetes I've ever had, in a sauce so delicious you have to savor it with your eyes closed. The asada is tender. The prawns are fresh. The chicken is flavorful. The cheese is perfection on a plate. The beans are melty with cheese, and the rice is hot and savory. Everyone is happy and in a good mood. Fireworks go off in the sky as we walk back to our hotel. Bishop, California is a small town with the best molcajetes anywhere to be found. read more

The atmosphere has more of a sterile, industrial feel--not particularly warm or inviting. Our server didn't seem to care whether we were there or not - lack of eye contact/didn't greet us. Not really an issue just an observation. Unfortunately, the house margaritas tasted more like a "skinny" version--light and not very flavorful. I wasn't sure if they were made with actual tequila; while the menu lists tequila in the descriptions, there's a note elsewhere stating that all cocktails are made with "spirits," which was a little confusing. I'd recommend confirming what's in your drink before ordering. We didn't think of it until later :/ The salsa verde served with the chips was extremely watery and lacked flavor. As for the fajitas, they were fine--no charring, swimming in liquid, and the flavor was just okay. Comes with two larger tortillas if ordering flour. Overall, I wouldn't return. Looking forward to checking out the other multitude of Mexican food establishments in the area. read more

This was our second visit to Molcajete's. Just as awesome as the first time that we went . On this trip, I had the Octopus molcajete, for one person, and my wife had the birria tacos. We also had a couple of cocktails and some wine. The Cuba libre cocktail was ok, I've just never had one with a salt rim. The mojito however was awesome. Louis makes a great drink. The octopus molcajete was fantastic !! Perfectly cooked and with a great sauce! So much food that we could have easily shared the dish. You guys: handmade tortillas!!! Honestly, this is my favorite spot in Bishop right now (sorry, Burger Barn!). I cannot even underscore enough how great of an experience this was! Quality ingredients + unique dishes are the name of the game here. My partner got the chile relleno Molcajete, and like others have said, it's definitely enough to share between two people. He said it was cheesy and the spices were just right. There he didn't even feel he was missing out on meat (which is a lot for him ha!). I got the carne asada plate, and as you can see, it is huge! I can't decide my favorite thing about the plate, but I'm gonna have to go with the handmade tortillas! It takes a lot of effort to make those, so the fact that they do speaks to their commitment to quality. A close second is the delicious guacamole. Drool!!! The portions were huge! The margaritas were boommmb and the beer selection was really nice. Our server, Graciela, was so wonderful. She was I formative and gave us the background on the restaurant. Stopped by this place on our way to Mammoth and I'm so glad we did! The food, staff and overall ambience was great. We walked in and we were immediately greeted by our server and seated promptly. The interior is so adorable and well decorated. We came in during the lunch hour so we enjoyed their lunch specials offered til 3pm. I ordered the "cowboy burrito" and my boyfriend had the "carne asada on the grill plate" & both were extremely yummy! The burrito was a big size and super flavorful. The wings weren't the best but knowing the style of food I knew they could've been a missed.
