I explained to them that they still took the money for my order and they were rude and said that they could do anything about that to call my bank and figure it out. I am not an expert on Central American cuisine, yet. But maybe soon I will be. Tried a pork chop today and a chile relleno. Both were unique and very good. There is an extensive menu, and they offer breakfast all day. But most importantly they are neighbors trying to make it like us all right now. First time trying Guatemalan food. I thought it was okay, food was kinda bland. Except for beet one and pork tamale.

Visited for lunch with several co-workers. The food was excellent, the service was...okay. There was a language barrier with the server, and the menu did not match what the server was attempting to explain. To be specific, I cannot have tomato sauce, but most of the dishes have tomato sauce. The only dish I saw that did not have tomato sauce would be the Crema with chicken, so I ordered it. Some of my co-workers found out that the dish actually DID have tomato sauce, so the server "picked a better option". I had no idea what I was getting, but I was assured that it would not have tomato-sauce. What I ended up getting was this chicken soup with what I could assume was green peppers and potatoes. Considering that I had no idea what I was getting into, I was concerned, but the food was excellent. Only thing I would wish for is more rice and potatoes for the price. Otherwise, I enjoyed the decor and the smell of the food very much! I would recommend that they have a bi-lingual server on staff. read more

Very interesting unique food. The hot corn drink is very soothing and has a touch of cinnamon. The corn tortillas are THICK and hot. I had a chicken stew in green sauce that was very flavorful. WOW! I had never had Guatemalan food before and now it's all I am craving! We started with Atole a corn-based hot drink and we never looked back!! Next we tried the stuffed plantain which had sweetened black beans, this appetizer could easily have been labeled a dessert. Then we had a Chile Relleno which was outstanding, flavored beautifully and great presentation as well. For the main course, I had Pollo en Crema which was an absolute delight and super-fresh. My buddy was kind of enough to share part of his Guatemalan Grilled Steak with Chimichurri and WOW WOW WOW, most tender steak I've had in ages and super flavorful. We spoke with the owner at length and he was very kind and generous to share how they prepared our food and which spices they used. I fell in love with Guatemala's people, places and "platos" years ago while living in the Guatemalan highlands. This lovely little restaurant, with marimba music playing in the background, charming owners/cooks and delicious authentic dishes that include pepian and paches and thick, hand formed corn tortillas, reminded me exactly why! If you have ever been in that country you will relish the opportunity to get a taste again of "The Land of Eternal Spring". If you haven't been fortunate to travel to Guatemala yet, go to El Meson to discover the difference between Mexican and Guatemalan food when you try the chicken in a sauce made of ground roasted peppers, sesame and pumpkin seed, tomatillos and tomatoes (pepian) or tamales made of ground rice rather than corn (paches).
