Here we go! Ok so I've been here twice before not sure why I haven't reviewed it yet, once when it was "Bernardo's" and once as Los Girasoles. Right from the get go I'm going to appeal to all my fellow Yelpers and my Fort Worth Yelp Elite squad to please give Los Girasoles a chance and soon if you can, this is a completely family run restaurant and they are struggling to keep going. I stopped in for lunch on around Noon and there was only one other table with customers which is hard to understand considering they offer several good lunch special deals! I was greeted immediately and they brought out a big bowl of fresh chips and two salsa's a Rojo and a delicious Verde, I was off that day and decided to have a couple house margaritas on the rocks and they were fresh and delicious! I ordered the Flautas Barachas, 4 freshly fried chicken flautas in a delicious tomatillo sauce, they were clearly made and fried fresh to order and that tomatillo sauce was great. The sides of beans and rice seriously deserve their own props because with no exaggeration i can say these were the best I've had in town, the seasoning was so on point especially those beans! Right across the street or two other Mexican restaurants El Paseo and Mezcales and while Mezcales it's pretty good Los girasoles absolutely blows El Paseo out of the water and is better than mezcales as well. I saw they had menudo and it was Sunday so it should be good. No. It's $18. Okay. I'll try it anyway. I called to pickup. It wasn't busy. No one greeted me so I went to the cashier counter. I have to drive out to school today. I figured I would finally stop in and try this place. I am glad I did! It was delicious. I got the lunch special #7 (beef enchilada and a crispy taco, beans and rice). I figured it would let me sample a little of everything. The chips wwee suoer light amd crispy. I wasnt a fan if the salsa. The rice and beans were well seasoned and delicious! Almost better than my mom's(shhh). I am always iffy on crispy tacos because they always crumble after the first bite. This taco shell was thin and super crispy BUT it held together till the last bite. The beef enchilada was good. I am not a big enchilada fan but this had good flavor. The red sauce had some deep, smoky flavor. I will have to say this place is much better than the more popular spot across the intersection from it. We often forget this place is here, despite passing it daily, but won't forget it any longer! We came on a Saturday and sat on the patio- we actually came because it was beautiful patio weather and it's exactly what my soul needed. I'm a sucker for a good Michelada and this one hit the spot! Hubs had a margarita and it was fresh lime juice and he said it was great as well. I just had a single Chile Relleno and he had Tacos Al Carbon and it was all very tasty. Just no. I dont know if there has been a change to operations since all the 4+ star reviews, or if there are just a lot of people with no palates rating this place. The chips and salsa were not good. The queso with beef was passable. The main flavor over the barbacoa was oregano....literally just oregano. The carnitas tasted like boiled pork, no seasoning, no flavor. If the beans and guacamole are not canned/packaged, I would be surprised. Rice was good and only thing we all ate. Rest was sad. Very sad. This place used to have multiple employees and you can tell they have cut back due to lack of customers is my guess. Food prices have gone up of course which I don't fault them for however my dish had grey guacamole on it! So not even fresh! Why would you ever serve that?!?! You can't even claim it went that color from walking to table! For $18 got a bed of onions (not even sautéed lightly cooked) with sprinkle of meat on it, which was bland and unseasoned! You might think it's a lot of food but once you grab first meat lo and behold a huge pile of onions. 2 corn tortillas and 1 flour tortillas was all that was served (never asked preference).....No one came and refilled waters, ask how food was or if we wanted dessert. I truly want to support a mom and pop style restaurant but something is lacking here now! Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon for a late lunch. My friend and I were greeted and sat immediately. We ordered a couple margaritas they looked and tasted delicious. The cucumber one was a little on the sweet side though. They brought chips and two different salsas to the table. They were both flavorful and Not overwhelmingly spicy. I'm not the biggest fan of cilantro but still enjoyed the salsas. For the entree I got the beef enchiladas, my friend a chicken fajitas salad, and her son a the kids bean burrito. Everything was so Delicious!!! This Restaurant is super cute, the food & drinks were great, Came out int a timely manner, & the bathrooms were clean too! Saw the sign for all day menudo and pozole so we stopped to try it out. Walked in and was greeted and sat right away. Chips were warm and crispy and the red and green chili salsas were fresh and tasty! The menudo and pozole came out HOT with bread and all the sides. This place happens to be located across the street from our go-to Mexican lunch spot so it was a big decision to go here instead. The lunch crowd was light so we were seated promptly. They have a lunch menu with quite a few selections and includes a drink for $10. We opted for that figuring we'll try the basics first. Complimentary chips and salsas were brought out. They serve both green and red salsas here. Our first meal was good, not great, but we decided we give it another try, that is, until I saw my receipt afterwards. We were charged $2.50 per drink even though we ordered off the lunch menu. I was disappointed to say the least. Fast forward a couple of weeks later and I found myself here again, not by choice, for an office birthday lunch because our go-to spot is closed on Tuesdays. Our group of 8 were the only ones dining in that day throughout the whole meal. The others were not blown away with the food on this visit either. Service was great though and they even brought us complimentary bunuelos. I don't think I'll be back. Went to purchase tamales the other day and after waiting for them for what seemed like a very long time, they gave them to me refrigerated and wrapped in plastic wrap! I was not made aware of this upon ordering so I was very disappointed to get home and discover this! To make matters worse They barely had any meat and were $20 a dozen. Our friends and family of 8 went here tonight, they could have cared less that we wanted to come eat dinner there. After 10 minutes, no one had even greeted our party of 8 or handed out menus. We asked for a round of waters to start off with and they brought out 2, for our party of 8. After a while, we eventually got some of the drinks we ordered after asking for them. We ordered chips and queso and the chips were cold and semi stale, overall nothing to come back for. We soon realized how slow/ apathetic the service was, so we left. The salsas had no flavor. Had to add salt. They didn't have corn dogs. The kids chicken tenders were so small and looked burnt. The corn tortillas for the fajitas ripped so I had to eat without them. So my friend and I went in there for lunch. They seated us and gave each of two menus, one regular menu and another a lunch menu that if you order off of it, it's $10 and a free soft drink. We chose to order off the regular menu with the lunch specials on the back. When it came time to leave, we got our bill and was totally charged wrong. The lunch special we chose was $9.49. Got charged the $10 and I got charged an extra.99cents for the sour cream sauce on my enchilada.....REALLY!!!!! You get a choice of sauce. So if we were getting charged the $10 why didn't they ask what soft drink we wanted? We both confronted the guy at the register about it. His excuse was "the new manger doesn't use that lunch menu anymore ". Well then why were we given it and they knew we ordered off it cuz we showed the waitress. Told him very deceiving and to charge me extra for my sour cream sauce that was wrong. Even my friend was overcharged as well. So he changed my amount and took a whole $.50 off. I made sure I wrote down what he was charging me and what my tip was. I just checked my checking account and noticed that they charged me an extra $1.19 on top of the original total, so I did not get any credit and they charged me more. We went there with the impression it was good but they are being extremely dirty in charging wrong amounts. Everyone....BEWARE if you go there. I will NEVER GO BACK! To add to this review today November 8th. My friend text me and had to file a discrepancy with her credit card because when she saw the charge from this place it showed she had left an $6.99 tip.. She said she only left a $5 tip and once again neither one of us got a receipt from the guy who was rude and kept making excuses. Thank goodness her credit card company took care of the overcharge. So unbelievable how a new family ran restaurant can take advantage of their customers. I definitely will put the word out to my family and friends not to go there. Saturday night dinner at Los Girasoles was fantastic. First off, the service was great! Maria was so sweet and ensured we were taken care of for the duration of our dinner. I had their Pacifico Michelada and it was COLD and refreshing! For dinner, I went with the mole. It was absolutely delicious. My husband had the enchiladas and he devoured those! first and only visit to Girasoles July 5, 2025. I have never submitted a review but this visit was so disappointing that an exception must be made. The food doesnt even rise to the level of mediocre. First the chips and salsa were indescribable. What are supposed to be totopos are out of the bag "chips" without any flavor. The salsa was very watery and probably just tomato juice with no heat whatsoever. The salsa verde was also very watery but with a little more taste and some heat. My friend and I ordered the half chicken and beef fajitas. The chicken was very dry and tough. The beef was at least tender but completely without any seasoning. Sans sabor. The onions were the outer skin of the onion and very tough and no green pepper whatsoever. Both flour and mais tortillas were dry and tough. there was about a teaspoon of guacamole which was also bland could detect no lemon juice in the mixture. Margaritas were acceptable but not that good. Cannot recommend this establishment as the benchmark of any texmex restaurant is the fajitas and the servings were at best questionable. read more
