Was craving pupusas and found El Mexsal. Ordered: Pork Chicharron & Cheese Very good, will be back

I don't write many yelp reviews but this place is just all around not good. Got here at 7:30 and it was dead (literally no one but us and the servers) still couldn't get anything without raising a hand. The food was extremely sub par and way overpriced the shrimp nachos had no cheese the Birria quesadilla was so small and looks like it was made from some store bought cheap ingredients the burrito was 75% beans this is ridiculous. The building is painted nicely and the music is fine. It says under new management and it seems to have gone down hill I didn't come here before.

Kinda just mid to me. I went here with my dad because we were in the area. We got started off with the chips, which weren't that good in my opinion because they were room temp and thick, salsa was nice though. I then got the vegetable tacos with rice and beans, and my dad got a burrito with rice. Now, don't get me wrong, the food is good, but the service I got was lousy. Only thing bad about the food is the tacos were a bit greasy. However, we were the only ones in the restaurant, and still weren't waited on properly. No water or chip refills. The music cut out as we barely started on our meal, and it didn't come back on til we were leaving. When we wanted to leave though, we waited around 10 minutes or so, even saw our waitress come back into the main area and then go back into the kitchen, then finally come up to us and ask us if we wanted the check. I just feel like the hospitality was at an all time low and don't see myself coming back.

WOW! The staff is amazing and the food was delicious! My wife LOVED the pupusas. They were full of cheese and chicken and the slaw complimented it very well. The queso has a slight kick to it which made it even better. Can't wait to go back!

The venue provided the perfect atmosphere--elegant, intimate, and full of character. The speakeasy setting gave the celebration a unique and upscale feel that our guests absolutely loved. Kid friendly and offered a private bar with dedicated bartenders. The Deluxe Buffet Package was excellent. The house salad was fresh, the meatballs were flavorful, and the deviled eggs and crab balls were crowd favorites. The Chicken Parmesan and Pound for Pound Pasta were delicious and plentiful, while the roasted potatoes and green beans rounded out the meal perfectly. The assorted dessert tray was a wonderful finishing touch. The black and gold balloon arch and table decorations made the room feel festive and sophisticated, creating a beautiful setting for celebrating such an important milestone. A special thank you goes to Maria, the event coordinator, who was exceptional from beginning to end. She handled every detail of the event, including the space setup, food service, and decorations, with professionalism and care. Her communication throughout the planning process was outstanding, and she made what could have been a stressful event feel effortless. Thanks to Maria's attention to detail and organizational skills, everything came together seamlessly, allowing us to focus on celebrating with family and friends. The staff was attentive, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was unforgettable. We received countless compliments from our guests about the venue and the overall experience. If you're looking for a unique and memorable venue for a birthday, anniversary, retirement party, or other special event, Sly Fox Speakeasy is an excellent choice. We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate a 60th birthday. Highly recommended!

The only way to get in is on special occasions so inquire within or on the Sly Fox website. The staff were so wonderful and kind really catering to our every need. We started with Infused water and mimosas. The Raspberry mimosa was sweet and bubbly with the perfect amount of raspberry sorbet. The food was beautifully displayed in a buffet style. Such a great variety. Fresh fruit of all kinds, french toast, waffles and chicken, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage , scrabbled eggs, quiche, house potatoes, deviled eggs, and a charcuterie board . On the sweet side they had mini cinnamon rolls, danish, brownies, cookies and cupcakes with the galentine theme. They had chocolate and chocolate covered strawberries with pretty pink food grade glitter. Plenty to choose from and plenty to eat. We loved it. In order to get into the speakeasy it is tickets only. We are looking on their website for the special events. Can't wait to see what they do for another event style. This time is was a Galentine Brunch.

Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.

Happy hour was 3-6pm I think, and there were 2 taco specials on the board. I'm not sure if it was valid or not.. There was one person at the bar taking orders, serving drinks, and pretty much running the place. She was very busy. The anxiety of watching her try to handle everything made me a little uncomfortable. She was doing her best, and kuddos to her for not flipping a table and walking out. She was nice, but she asked us every 3-4 minutes if we knew what we were ordering. It was very aggravating. I don't think she realized after several times we were over it. The inside is pretty much a bar setting with a few booths. It's very dated and low-key kind of gloomy inside. I'd say this is a bar for locals, not really a restaurant. It's definitely the kind of food you could eat if you had a few drinks, maybe. But sober, heck no!! Lol. Ugh. I was excited to try them because they have some 5 star reviews, but it wasn't what I expected. When it was time to eat she went and got the cook from outside. We ordered 2 burgers and fries, and chicken nachos. We left and came back to pick up our order and the seats at the bar was packed at this point. The waitress met us as we walked in, with our food. I was hungry, so I tried the food in the car. The burger was definitely a frozen patty and thick as heck. It looked decent kinda sorta, in a way, maybe, just a little bit. Idk what to say. The fries were crispy but awkwardly greasy!! There was one tiny tomato on my burger and a huge onion that was a little moldy. I've never seen someone use a slice of onion this big on a burger. The burger definitely needed seasoning. I think if it had flavor it would have been decent. I'll give the burger a 4/10. My sister got the chicken nachos and she was not happy. Whatever mystery beans they had made were disgusting. They tasted old or something was off about them. The guacamole was a little sour tasting also, and the chicken was flavorless. She tried so hard to make it work, she even re-cooked the beans and it just didn't help. 2/10!!! She spent $25 and felt it was the worse decision she made all day. I wish I was exaggerating or something, but this is actual factual. The prices are reasonable, I'll say that. But it's definitely certain things to stay away from on the menu. I don't think we'd ever return. Maybe the tacos are better than what we had ordered. If you're looking for a drink maybe things would be better. I think they specialize in drinks over food!?
