I've now ordered from Jesse's Taqueria both for pickup and delivery, and overall I've been really impressed with their consistency and quality. For my pickup order, I had a taco salad with a side of rice, and it was hands-down amazing. I also ordered a watermelon fresca, which was so flavorful and clearly made in-house. You can really taste the freshness. I was told they make their tortillas in-house as well, so I ordered a side of those just to try--and they were excellent. Everything was packed with great care for takeout, neatly wrapped and organized. I also appreciated that the pico de gallo was served on the side, which kept everything fresh and well-balanced. The only small downside is that they don't offer a traditional salad dressing for the taco salad, but fresh lime works perfectly and still keeps it very enjoyable. On a separate delivery order a few days later, I tried their birria tacos with a side of rice and another fresca. Again, everything arrived fresh and flavorful. The quesabirria tacos were packed with meat, very rich and satisfying, and they included plenty of sauce on the side, which I appreciated. The rice was also consistently good. What stands out most is how consistent they are between pickup and delivery. Everything is well-prepared, flavorful, and thoughtfully packed. What can I say, Jessy's is a Norfolk staple and serves the best Mexican food I have ever ate in the 757. The menu is long but really hits all the rights spots with whatever you're in the mood for. I ordered the Steak Fries while my Wife ordered a Wet Burrito, we ordered a Gordita to split. It was a 10-15 minute wait but our food came out warm, and ready. I'd heard about this place for a few years and was happy to finally be back in the area to try it out. My husband worked with a guy who served in the military with the owner and he'd raved about it. I think I saw that it was featured on Food Network and has expanded because of it but I wanted a surprise and went in blind. I ordered a fried chimichanga with beef and no tomato. I received a beef burrito with tomato inside, but not on the lettuce and sour cream served with it. There was a tiny tablespoon of sour cream which was disappointing. Despite being the wrong item, having tomato, and inadequate sour cream, it was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn't finish because of the large portion. I tried 2 of the complimentary chips and they seemed house-made. They were warm, crisp, and flavorful. The prices were very high and would be cost prohibitive for my return. read more

I got a panbazo completely cold. My wife ordered the chicken tacos the chicken was cold to the touch. We got a choriqueso for the table as an appetizer and it didn't arrive until after our food. I went to Jessy's last night. If you haven't been lately...it's been totally renovated and looks amazing! The staff there are the best in OV. I tried something off of the Ramen menu. I've been waiting till there was a chill in the air to order this. I saw the new ramen menu during the summer and I couldn't bring myself to order hot soup. I love traditional ramen so I was excited to try this version. There are a few options to choose from, or you can have a customized soup. I went with the Birria. It was SO good. I also had guacamole, queso, beans, and salsa with their excellent chips. I will be back to try the chicken ramen, and the carnitas fries ramen! Jessy's keeps getting better. read more

Yum! Was down the street and needed a little snack so stopped here and was not disappointed! Place-it looks like it is currently being renovated so sat outside in a little area they still had open and covered. They also were coming right there so kind of fun and a unique experience! Jessy's hits the spot again and again. We love bringing friends and family here when they're in town and everyone always loves the experience. Out of all their locations, this is our favorite. We love the attached store with all of the gorgeous pastries and Mexican items. Chips and salsa: amazing. We don't love that it isn't unlimited, but the $5 is reasonable. Their guacamole and queso are also both great, so we typically indulge in those, as well. I always get the lengua tacos and a chile relleno. Both are incredible. I also love their refried beans. Very authentic Mexican restaurant in the area. I really enjoyed the horchata that I asked for 3 of them. I usually don't drink that much liquid. If you have never tried it, I suggest you try it here. I also really enjoyed the birria. It was pretty expensive, but it was very worth the 3 tacos and birria soup though. We got here around 7:30pm, so most of the crowd has gone, and the service was a little slow. There is also a cute little shop inside next to the dining area for mexican pastries and candy. The vibe, service, and food was amazing. I was looking for a local place for good Mexican food. I found it!

The service to start off was pretty poor. Our waitress only came to the table two times and then had someone else help us. Not sure if there was a shift change or not but there wasn't any communication. The food was not great. The chorizo definitely didn't taste like chorizo. I ordered the fajita bravas fries. It said that there was skirt steak, chorizo and shrimp on top of fries with cheese sauce. While it was a massive portion of food it was not great quality. There was maybe 5 chunks of shrimp not even 3 whole pieces of shrimp. The steak was chewy and it was left in large strips so very difficult to eat. Plenty of "chorizo" throughout the bowl. There wasn't any cheese sauce on top of anything, I didn't find it until I put the food on the plate. The cheese Accompanied by a ton of grease as if the meat was not properly strained before being poured on top of the fries. It was not a great experience so I would not recommend or even come back. read more

Can't say I love the this place. Been here a few times and each meal gets worse. The service is generally fine but the menu is overwhelming and over priced. Meals have gone up in cost and down in quantity and quantity of food. My visit I inexplicably got an enchilada with the meat on top of the tortilla. I'm not Latina but I've never had a tortilla serving look like this! It's like the cook forgot tbt meat and just said oh well. I'll throw it on top here. The ingredients promised on the Menu like avocado were also missing. I do enjoy the chips and salsa. From what I have heard the first batch to the table is free and more orders are changed which makes dinners more likely to not "order" more and stay and order more food and beverages. Last time we ordered a few happy hour specials and were a still Charged the regular prices. I'm not going to return. Too many similar places around! read more

This place is delicious! They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a shop with a great variety of Central American items. It really reminded me of Mexico with all the options of things to buy! We sat outside, and our server was prompt with the food. It's definitely higher quality food than the generic Eastern VA "Mexican" food. First time back in 5 years after I either got food poisoning from here or cookout, but figured it was about time to give it another chance. The place itself looked the exact same but they had new menus with MUCH steeper prices. By no means did I expect it to be the same price but they'd at least doubled so that was an unpleasant surprise. I got Jessy's burrito which was good bud I was unimpressed by the presentation; the burrito was wrapped in tinfoil and was tasty but not worth $16 for just that & the rice & beans. So I want to give four but I'll ping them their price and what I term as a bit of misleading a customer. But prior to that I'll comment on the food - I did their tacos very good! I'd recommend the tacos and food. This place came recommended to me so I'll pass it along. What I will leave you with it be weary of the price. So with that said I came for lunch, they had a lunch special for 11 that was two tacos rice and beans. I didn't really feel like rice and beans, they have a traditional Mexican menu up front that has pictures. There is a picture of three tacos listed for $5.33 thus one could assume three street tacos for 5.33 - price checks. I took it a step farther and asked the waitress that since I didn't feel like rice and beans was there an option to just do tacos as I pointed to the picture of three tacos. She said yes and asked how many I wanted. I went with five to properly get my fat on and then finished. Food was great. Bill was a bit shocking I was anticipating around 8-10 with three tacos, chips/salsa, and a soft drink. The total was 29.98.... For one person for lunch!!! What was not conveyed in our conversation is that even though the pictures shows three tacos and says "tacos" and list a price of 5.33. IN REALITY it is 5.33 PER tacos!!!! That is wild!!! These aren't massive either, they are your regular baja style street taco. So you have been warned... a bit false marketing and would have been appreciative had this been discussed when I was ordering and referencing the menu. Of note - the waitress is a native English speaker, so there wasn't a language barrier either. Big time surprise, I'll most likely be back but will not be getting my fill of tacos because it will be highway robbery. Aside from that, good food, just wish that would have been passed to me. Rating based on being native to South Cali. Food. It was underwhelming. I got al pastor and Carne asada tacos. - this place had the least amount of meat on their taco based on other taco shops I've been to. Carne asada felt like there was more onions and cilantro than the actual meat (see picture). - they don't have a salsa bar or salsa offerings (compared to other places I've been to) - flavor was overall bland in general and dry meat IMO Experience: Nice staff but we almost paid $10 unknowingly. As soon as we sat down, the lady gave us the menu and without us even having a chance to look at the menu, she asked queso or guacamole. I thought it was free because she immediately asked, without even asking what we want for drinks first. She sat us down and that was her first question. We did say guacamole and when we finally had a chance to look at the menu, we noticed it was $10 for guacamole. When she arrived, we asked if it was free and she said no. I personally don't appreciate that. No mention of the price as she didn't even let us settle in when she asked. Side note, of ALL the taco places we've been to, whenever we are asked/offered chips and salsa/mole/queso, it has always, always been free or they say the price upfront. So when they didn't provide an amount, without even giving us a chance to check out the menu, we assumed it would be free. Overall, this lady was really nice and when the guacamole came in and found out it wasn't free, she didn't give us a hassle when we turned it down. She was also attentive to us through out the night. That initial experience just rubbed us the wrong way. We noticed this place was featured on DDD and I can't tell if we just didn't order the right items or our expectations were too high, coming from South Cali. We've been to other taco places in other states, but man, this place was such a let down. This is the first taco place we've been to here in Virginia Beach so I'm confused why the rating is so high. read more

Normally we go to the location close to the Oceanfront, but we decided to try this location. I can see how this place is perfect during the summer because it's just across the street. They have a store on the left side of the location and the restaurant on the right side. They have bakery goods, grocery items, Mexican souvenirs and other goods. I order the Caldo de Res. We were disappointed because the menu says its made with snap peas, but when we asked the server said it was made with beans. My husband can't have Legumes or lentils because they made his Gout flare up. He decided to get the fajita burrito, but wasn't really happy about it, especially after he paid $60 for a meal that left us feeling unsatisfied. We won't come back here to dine. Last night I had a barbacoa street taco and an elote. I was able to finish up the taco but only had about 1/3 of the elote. That corn always hits the spot. I'll take it. Order the horchata here. It's good. Service was good. Our server Judith was great and gave good recommendations. Everyone was enthusiastic to be there it seemed. This place is located in a shopping plaza and parking is limited. We were the ones eating there because we went for an early lunch before the lunch crowd. We had a choice of 3 maybe 4 parking spots. I was in town for a conference. This place was near by my rental and decided to try it for lunch. This is a hidden gem in the area. I had the birria ramen with two birria tacos. Wow! The flavor was amazing. You can tell that the meat was slow cooked and had a great flavor. The birria consome broth was great. It had a rich flavor I loved the addition of the chick peas. Been coming here since 2010 for tacos, menudo, tres leches and everything else. Honestly everything here is the BEST, not the fanciest sit down place but the food is good and the vibe is authentic! The greatest thing bout this little gem is that there is a grocery store connected next to the taqueria so you can pick up some goods and even freshly marinated meat in the back. Also picked up some of the best conchas from here. 10/10! One stop shop :)! read more

Parking sucks. Food was only ok. The chips and salsa very underwhelming. Chips seemed to be burnt or just super dark and crunchy. The super burrito was boring. It needed sour cream and guacamole...the meat in it was also only okay. Tamales were very good! $50 for all this...$60 with tip. Just didn't seem worth it. I don't think I will be visiting again. Sorry to say...3 stars because service was pretty fast for me...but her food came out 5 minutes later. and waitresses were friendly but didn't come back to check on us for refills or napkins.
