    Chicken Mole
    Amy H.

The perfect place for anything, from a casual post-beach bite to a dressy date night. Stringed lights and bright walls set the scene for a delightful evening of good food. Definitely recommend the fish ceviche over the shrimp ceviche, their chips come out warm and fresh. The chicken mole also did not disappoint, with enticing flavors and large proportions. The pastor with their verde sauce was also very delicious. Service was quick despite a packed Friday night. Overall great!

This place never fails to disappoint. Food isnt bad but it isnt good. Its so depressingly bland. If i ate it with my eyes closed, i could not place any flavors, not even salt. Meat (of all types--steak, shrimp, fish) are all overcooked. Tacos are dry as hell. I get tacos dont have sauce but how is it possible that even the tomatoes have no juice?? Salsa and pico dont help either, they are void of flavor. The food looks good but tastes like nothing. And wtf is this rock hard kids "cheese pizza"?? Its like stale pita bread or something. Been here 3 times and no more, its no coincidence every time that its been flavorless, at least it's edible.

Lola's Beach Cantina in East Beach is my new favorite spot for a good happy hour! I stopped by on a Thursday and was genuinely impressed by how lively and fun the atmosphere was. The place was poppin with by 5PM. The decor is super chic and beachy. I loved the vibes. Their happy hour deals are great. 50% off select appetizers and $5.99 drink specials. I ordered a corona light, not even sure if that was on happy hour but it sure is my favorite beer when at a Mexican spot! my friend and I split the surf n turf nachos, which were out of this world. They were topped with carne asada, grilled chicken, chorizo, and shrimp, queso, fresh pico de gallo, sour cream, and a honey chipotle drizzle. So much flavor in each bite. My friend ordered a house margarita and her feedback was 10/10. The staff were extremely friendly too, which added to the positive experience. I can't wait to come back for a full dinner soon. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area, or need a spot to go after the beach!

Absolutely had a wonderful meal and a most enjoyable time at this little gem of a restaurant! The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. Our server Ana Maria was a delight to talk to and she provided quick and excellent service. She had lots of good suggestions on food and drinks. Very pleasant outdoor seating, loved going here for Cinco di Mayo. The food was delicious and we will absolutely be back again!

So after a HORRIBLE yelp experience at Coastal Country, my friends and I walked here because we were hungry. The crowd was definitely older. But our server McKenzie was perfect! Super friendly and patient. We happened to stumble onto National tequila day, go us. The decor was cute and the place was clean. The food was AMAZING, the guac was homemade and tasty, the chips were fresh unlike the OTHER place down the road. lol so on National tequila day, I ordered a banana bread old fashioned (I never drink bourbon). But it was so good and tasted just like the name. The girls ordered margs and they were well made, they didn't have the artificial 'mix' taste. June ordered the chicken quesadillas and she loved them. We would definitely come back here. Also, OHIO fans? Hmmmm lol.

    Surf and Turf

First time here and was good. We ordered surf and turf which is good, shrimp and scallops and mix tacos. Food was good but not excellent especially with being pricey I was expecting a lil more on an authentic Mexican dish. Our server was nice and the restaurant looks clean.

Stumbled into Lola's today and wow--what an unexpected gem right by the shoreline. From the moment we walked in, the bright coastal colors and warm vibe hit just right. Service was friendly, quick, and genuinely welcoming. Chesbay Punch Let's talk about this drink. Light, fruity, refreshing, and dangerously easy to sip. Perfect balance--not too sweet, not too tart. It tasted like vacation in a glass. Ceviche Tower A showstopper. Literally a skyscraper of fresh shrimp, scallops, and fish layered with bright lime, cilantro, tomato, jalapeño, and silky avocado on top. Clean, zesty, generous portion, and plated beautifully. The house-made chips on the side were crisp and perfect for scooping. Absolutely worth the price. Chicken Mole Rich, deep, and comforting. The mole sauce had that classic chocolatey warmth with just the right seasoning, poured over a tender chicken leg quarter and served with rice. It felt like a hug from someone's abuela. The whole experience felt intentional--from the ambiance to the plating. Huge thanks to the staff for making our visit so enjoyable. We'll definitely be back to try more! Lola's is a vibe, and the food backs it up. Highly recommend.

Amazing food and amazing drinks!! This place rocks. Good quality Mexican food (and that's coming from a San Diego born Mexican food lover!) Cadillac margarita, smoked Paloma, birria tacos, and Lola's burrito were all top notch.

It's a cozy place to relax on a Sunday afternoon.. greeted by the host at the door and seat right away without reservation on a weekend. The server is nice and very accommodating. The reason its 4 star, i feel its missing something on the plate.. The sauce it could you a little bit more, I ended getting some from my husband's plate. The onion is too much i dont know why its there with the cucumber they can just add a lettuce to be salad already.. it looks like onion salad with cucumber to me. My husband have 2 garlic bread and mine is missing... but taste of the food overall is tasty.

Wow! I love this spot! Drinks were strong which was awesome! The service was fast and friendly! THE FOOOD IS TO DIE FOR! I absolutely loved this place, it will definitely be a good to especially this summer! The spot was very beachy vibes given the location and it fit perfectly.

Quaint and better than your average cantina. Ordered a reposado and tacos. The restaurant was vibrant aesthetically and well populated for a Tuesday night. Staff and bartender were friendly. The tacos were good but not write home to yo mama good. I wanted to try something new like the octopus taco. It wasn't for my taste buds but good flavors. The ceviche was also not for my taste buds but it had good flavors. More tomato sauce based than lime/lemon juice. I would like to come again hoping to upgrade this review!

    Steak chimichanga
    Sheryl V.

Tried Lola's for the first time as a carryout order. I ordered the chimichanga with steak. We picked it up and upon cutting open the chimichanga the steak inside was so over cooked each piece was as hard as tough beef jerky. I called the restaurant to tell them of the issue and the lady I spoke with proceeded to tell me that was the way they cook the steak , medium well. Ummm if my steak was as tough as beef jerky it's not medium well... Anyways they told me to bring it back so I can show them. So I had to drive back to the restaurant and show them the hard pieces of steak and she still had to ask another worker about it. So another person comes and validates that the order was cooked wrong and I had to wait another 20 mins for a new meal. Overall this was super inconvenient, not sure how the cook thought it was ok to serve inedible food, and there was no comp or partial refund for the inconvenience.

This review actually has two great businesses because I visited Klassic Doughnut's food truck too! Ok first things first. Every Wednesday through this Summer Klassic Doughnuts food stand will be available at COVA 8-11 AM. They are in my opinion the best cake doughnuts in our area. They are a major draw for COVA. I purchased a few to go. With COVA I specifically wanted to try their coffee. I was blown away upon arrival to see their outdoor space. It's huge and beautiful. On a weekday at 11 AM without school even out was busy! The counter service was helpful and friendly. I told the staff I wanted a black coffee and was directed to what beans were being offered. I opted for an Ethiopian pour over. The coffee comes in a large and priced competitive. It took a bit with being busy and a pour over, but boy was the wait worth it. Probably the best coffee I've had in any recent memory and I drink a lot of coffee. The space inside is compact, but they offer a side patio that's covered too! COVA is late to offering coffee, maybe 5 years or so. However, they are established with brewing award winning beer. I chatted with a female brewer a minute who was so sweet and invited me back for a glass. They also have a bakery case with offerings that looked good. So I need to return. So exciting to share such a gem in East Beach. Parking may be an issue, but off street neighborhood streets are available.

I Came here for coffee one morning, and the coffee as well was excellent. I enjoyed the 007 which is a shaken espresso, Highly recommend! They also have pastries, we got the blueberry scone, chocolate chip scone and the cheese danish. All were great and tasted fresh. Not what you would expect from a brewery in the morning, but it was well worth the trip. The brewery itself was at a low volume and had great sunlight peeking through for a great coffee in the morning. Parking was a bit rough when it was busy on a Saturday afternoon, but there was a separate lot if you can't find parking in the main one. Though there weren't many people in the restaurant at all, the kitchen was really backed up and it took a long time for our food to come out. This didn't make sense at all honestly, so I'm not sure what the issue was. Didn't get to snap a picture, but they had a decent little amount of arcade games inside, which was pretty cool; wasn't expecting to see those in there. Also one of the dessert items I wanted to try: the salted caramel brownie, was out of stock, so I did have to change my dessert choice; unfortunately. To drink: I got the Watermelon Limeade (8.5/10) it was easy to drink, honestly just tasted like a fruity soda with a very tiny buzz to it. I would've liked it a bit more if it was a little stronger. Also tried the Dirty Berry Mojito (10/10) I absolutely loved the flavor of this Mojito and it was a lot stronger than the limeade. Def had a buzz after finishing it. After I was done, felt like I should've really just ordered two of the mojitos only. To eat: I got half Strawbenero BBQ (9/10) and half Spicy Garlic Ranch (6.5/10) boneless wings. The strawberry-habanero mix wings were really different and unique. When I first bit into them, I tasted the strawberry glaze and after a few more chews, that's when the spice settled in. I think it was different and actually pretty good. As for the spicy garlic ranch wings, I feel like they really tasted like regular buffalo sauce wings. I'm not sure if the kitchen mixed up what flavors I ordered, but they def tasted like regular buffalo and not anything garlicky or ranch flavor. Also did a side order of the loaded tots (2/10) the tots were cooked nice and crispy, but the loaded toppings had absolutely no flavor. There was chilli and cheese and after even giving the chilli a taste by itself, there was truly no seasoning in it at all. I wouldn't order this again. Also got dessert: the Cracker Jack Cheesecake (10/10) cheesecake is my favorite dessert, and I love the toppings of caramel and toffee; pretty sure it was supposed to have a chocolate drizzle on it, but the caramel was really good so no complaints. I totally see myself going back again, their hotdogs on the menu looked really really good and I would like to try some more of their unique wing flavors. My overall rate of experience : 7.7/10

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV
