I've driven by this restaurant almost daily for the past month since moving to the area. I couldn't find a take out menu online so I when I called I asked a few questions and ordered dinner for two. Pork taco, barbacoa lamb taco, chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, and guac and chips. This was some of the best Mexican I've ever had. Flavorful and fresh. I really hope they stay open, just a tough location for lots of traffic. Will definitely be back and highly recommend giving this place a try. I signed up on yelp just so I could post this review. Eaten take out from here twice now and it's really the only place in the area making decent tacos, enchiladas and burrritos. Guacamole was excellent! My only criticism is that the tacos could use a little kicking up. They come with very little aside from the actual protein and the two most excellent corn tortillas for each-but no salsa, queso, creme, lettuce, tomato...burrito in verde so good but again would be better to offer as a platter with rice, beans maybe some plantains...just a thought. We finally decided to experience what is considered to be the "BEST" Mexican food in the area(Hunterdon County-Flemington,NJ). I am the offspring of an Executive Chef(my dad), a mother whose expertise is in both baking and cooking, and myself a former restauranteur.We know food! Without a doubt, this dining experience with regards to the food was OUTSTANDING!!!: We started with the Guacamole and Chips( fresh, chuncky and full of flavor): followed by the pulled pork Burrito Estilo Enchilado and chicken Enchilada both with red sauce(we like heat!!) and finished the meal with the 3-milks cake. The portions were large and the temperature of the items were hot, even the rice and beans which looses heat quickly. Everything was homemade from scratch, nothing commercial(except the chips and tortilla's). The business is family owned and operated, our server(possibly the daughter) was friendly and pleasant, she answered our culinary questions regarding ingredients and warned us about the heat index of the red sauce when we ordered it. We arrived around 7:30ish, there were approx. 15 other diners. The place is small but I quess it seats about 45. We came for the food, not the atmosphere and we were not disappoited.Our new favorite spot, Muchas gracias!!! read more

Finally convinced my less-than-experimental wife to give El Molcajete a try. We thoroughly enjoyed it. First off, we were provided with a generous basket of freshly made nachos served with two dipping sauces. Let me repeat that - freshly made nachos, still hot and crispy, not the usual nachos from a bag. We also ordered some nachos covered with cheese and beef for a starter. For our entrees, I had the pork with green salsa, and my wife had the beef burrito. Both were terrific. We will definitely be back. read more

I've been there 3 times so far. The food has always been excellent. I love the guacamole! This place is nothing fancy, so don't expect a fine dining experience. If you are looking for vegan, gluten free, etc., you will do much better at one of the many "fru-fru" restaurants in Hunterdon County. I'm not sure how other people love this place so much. I drove out here based on the great reviews, and I was so disappointed. When we got there and were the only customers there, I got a bad feeling. We were greeted by a kid around 10 years old (the host) who unhappily seated us. The table seemed dirty, and was wobbly. There was a violent Mexican tv show on. The menu was very disappointing, with absolutely no vegetarian options (except the enchilada, which I don't like). There was plenty of cow tongue options though! I asked the waiter if there was any vegetarian options and he looked at me confused and walked away to give us more time to think about what we wanted. So I ordered the enchilada since it was my only choice, and it was just a pile of weird cheese, overly spicy sauce, and beans that seemed like they came from a can. I feel bad putting the place down, since it's obviously family owned and they seem to be struggling... but I wanted to warn all the vegetarians and anyone who likes quality food/service, not to go here. read more

What great find! Very authentic food, great flavor, good portion size. The guacamole was very good. and the chips were very tasty - clearly home made, crunchy, just the right size and texture. Authentic family run business. They are friendly and appreciate your business. We had chicken enchiladas, chicken tamales with red sauce, pork tacos. All delicious! They have a varied and extensive menu. There are pictures if you are not familiar with the lingo. Atmosphere is sort of like my grandmother's house in New Mexico. BYOB. Give this place a try. I really do love this little place! I've been here several times and have never been disappointed with the food. My two favorites are the lengua and the lamb tacos. They put just the right amount of onion, cilantro and lime juice on them. And the tortillas are perfect. So very tasty! My dining partners have all also enjoyed a great meal. We've always been offered chips and salsa. It is BYOB, which keeps the tab very affordable. I would agree with others that complementary water would be nice. My last visit was on Cinco de Mayo - which was a fun time and the food - again - was awesome. The restaurant was very busy and the staff seemed a bit hectic. So it was questionable to see the staff sitting and hanging out at certain tables when other tables were seeking attention. I've never noticed that before, so maybe that was just a one time thing? The place has a cute clean ambiance inside. Love that they keep it simple. read more
