My parents live in PRP and frequent this spot often. We went today with a large group to celebrate mom's birthday. "Lottie" was our amazing server, taking fantastic care of us with chips, salsa, drinks, and accurate orders. My son's burger and fries was a hit - I have a feeling someone else may order it next time. I got the 3 ala carte soft tacos with chicken. Delicious! Lettuce and cheese on top and plenty of chicken. There are a lot of El Nopal locations; however, they aren't all created the same, especially with service. Each time we've visited with family it's been consistently good food and service. The California burrito consisted of white rice, corn, black beans and 5 shrimp. No cheese or red sauce came with it, it was brought out later after the waitress was told that it was not what we ordered. The chicken nachos didn't come with lettuce, tomato, or sour cream. The only meal that was correct was my son's burrito. Thank god because he is the one who wanted to dine here. Dinner for 2 tonight. No waiting and plenty of seating. Service was prompt and friendly. Chips came right out and hot and fresh . We had both hot and mild sauces. My wife had the Monica's platter and I had the burritos supreme. We hated a bit of both. The shrimp and chicken on the Monica's were grilled nicely and plentiful. We recommend it. First time going to this location. Went with my mom since there were discounted coupons for this location only that came in the mail. This El Nopal is located just off the Watterson Expressway where the old Bob Evans used to be. We dined in on this visit and got a booth on the other end of the place. We got prompt service along with some chips with regular and spicy salsa. Our food came out rather quick. I got a combo #1 w/ 2 enchiladas, 1 taco and beans, my mom got a similar combo. Food was good and fresh, reasonably portioned. We also got margaritas. I got a Raspberry margarita and my mom got a regular lime margarita on the rocks. My Raspberry margarita tasted awesome and would have probably got a whole pitcher of it but, didn't. We had an awesome visit being our first time at this location. This is always a great Mexican food experience. I really love the atmosphere and the service is fast. They offer big 36 ounce beers for cheap price as well. I usually get the combination number 11, which is one burrito, one taco, and one enchilada. It is so good for $8.99. With all that food and free chips and salsa this is an excellent deal. I love this place. It's become a go-to place when I'm back home. Its great food for great prices and great drinks. I came here with a party of about 9 on a Friday night. We waited about 45 minutes which was fine as I told my friends to meet me at "the el nopal on dixie" (apparently there are 2 on dixie) and 5/9 ended up there. We were sat, greeted, and served rather quickly. I will definitely be back and this is quickly becoming my favorite location. We were greeted warmly, escorted to our table and did not wait long for our meal despite the good-sized Friday night crowd. The salsa served with the chips was spicy and flavorful. The flavors were more Californio than Tejano...flautas were made with flour tortillas (they were plump and tasty). portions were generous without being excessive, even for a combination dinner plate ordered from a budget menu. Multiple media screens flashed football matches, horse races and tennis games, while contemporary Mexican music that did not force us to scream our conversation serenaded us from the sound system. Decided to come here for dinner. New restaurant location and we'd been waiting for a chance to come here. There wasn't a wait, we came in and were seated promptly. It has a great layout with plenty of seating. I just ordered a water. Our waitress was nice and informative, minus the point when my wife was asking for a small side of the queso, I'm not sure she understood what was being asked and was trying to give us a $5 order of queso lol. I ended up ordering the steak fajita nachos... A-MAZING!!! Only thing I wish they had done was added more chips lol. There's plenty of steak and cheese and onions with green peppers. I just can't help it, I am a huge fan of this type of Mexican restaurant. The people are nice. This new location is spacious and clean with festive decor. The food is hot, fast, and cheap. I'm not sure what more that you could ask for! Tonight we had yummy drinks-they have specials. We had chips, salsa, queso- all delicious. We had tacos, pico de Gallo, beans/rice, and a kids meal- all tasted great! El Nopal replaced the Bob Evans near I-264 at Dixie Highway. It appears that they took their time and made the necessary updates before they recently opened. With that said, a common downfall for most of the restaurants in this area is that they are not maintained. Eventually, they end up dirty and run down and I find myself leaving Dixie Hwy to eat out. I really hope that's not the case for El Nopal! I want to be a regular here! read more

I love El Nopal because the steak quesadilla because it has melted cheese in it and it is so good. It really pains me to have to write this review, but I must. First of all, let me say I love love love El Nopal. Their food is always delicious. I have NEVER had a problem with them until today. I put in an order to go. I order the same thing I always get, steak fajitas and chicken quesadillas with onions and extra cheese. I go to pick up the order, there is a young lady behind the counter. She looks like she's in high school. No problem. As she's ringing up my order, I notice she has "queso" on my ticket. I say, "I'm sorry, I didn't order queso". She immediately raises her voice and says, "You asked for extra queso with your order"! I say, "No ma'am, I asked for extra cheese". She then yells at me and says, "Queso and cheese are the same thing"!! I said, "excuse me, I'm just asking a question". She then looks at me strangely, or maybe embarrassed because other customers were around. She then puts my receipt on the counter, "sign this". I sign it and give it back to her. She then starts looking through other receipts. I'm still standing waiting for my food. She is still looking through receipts. She finally stops, then goes to my order on the table. The only order on the table. She then begins to look through the entire bag of food acting as if she's checking to make sure everything is there (This has NEVER been done. I have never seen this done before when I've come to pick up my food). I still stay quiet and wait patiently watching her every mood and thanking God that all my food was covered because I felt that if she could have tampered with my food, she would have. She finally picks up the bag and says "here". Very rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. If it had stopped at "queso and cheese are the same thing"!!! then I probably would have shrugged it off. But her actions afterward tell me that her actions were intentional and that she needs more training. If she gets that upset when someone asks about ingredients on their order, then she doesn't need that job. This was the El Nopal in Shively on Dixie Highway in Louisville, KY. I love y'all. I will not be visiting this establishment again. Just moved to the area and was so hoping this spot would be as good as the one on Bardstown or in Fern Valley. Each time that I went there was an issue, incorrect food order or something missing from the order. Once I realized it, I addressed it with an employee but because it was a take out order I was given 24 hours to receive the corrected order. Now no, I did not expected it to hold for two weeks but maybe a couple of days??? I had to basically beg to speak to the manager to be hear but even then, what he told me was different that was was written down so when I did return for the accurate items I was informed of more changes. It truly takes quite a bit for me to completely give up on a restaurant and unfortunately this one hit my buttons... and it was the most simple things. At one time I ordered ground beef chimichangas and they were filled with shredded chicken, ordered a small side of queso and it was completely forgotten, added shrimp, mushrooms and jalapeños to an entree and they were left off. It seems like if I am in the resturaunt I don't have any problems except it tastes horrible but if I get carryout or Door Dash I don't seem to quite get all of ky order, its cold as take out can get, and no help is given by yhe store. Its almost like they play stupid and act like they dont understand you. I ordered steak fajitas and a cheese dip. What I got when I opened the bag at home was 1 container with steak pieces in it and that's it. Despite living across the highway from this location, this is the first time I've ordered. My wife called to place a pick up order because COVID. The young lady who answered the phone took the order. At the start I sensed this was going to be an issue. Every item my wife placed had to be repeated twice. I do not believe language was an issue. I think it was simply not paying attention. The order was simple. 2 chalupas, a two taco with beans and rice with no cheese due to an allergy, and a chicken fajita no cheese or sour cream due to an allergy. Now we have been down this road with other Mexican places before. Often times they don't put cheese on the main dishes, but leave cheese on the refried beans. My wife reiterated that there was an allergy and there doesn't need to be cheese on the dishes. She had the young lady repeat the order. The repeat was wrong. My wife asked to repeat, which was met with attitude and the hostess saying "you didn't say that the first time!". The young lady repeated the order again. This time it was right and she said twenty minutes. I showed up to pick up the order. Paid for it. Left a tip. Went to check the order and found , you guessed it, cheese. The hostess asked was everything ok, and I stated no. I explained to her what was wrong and the hostess said "That's not what she said in the phone!" I then pulled out the text of the order. The hostess mumbled "nahhh that's not what she said". I proposed a solution to take back the tacos and sides to be remade. When I did that the hostess stated "I don't understand why we need to remake the sides because she didn't say that!" I told her that I was standing there while she ordered and that she wasn't listening. I was met with some more back talk but couldn't make out what she was saying behind her mask. I then asked to speak to a manager. A guy walked up and I started to explain what was happening all the time the hostess was talking loud from behind the counter "no no no, that's not what happened!" I turned to her and said that she had a bad attitude and that's not how you treat customers. Especially in this day in age! The guy then told me that we would remake it, but I declined. I walked outside because I was getting mad. I called my wife. She called back up there and asked to speak to the manager, the hostess stated that the manager wouldn't be there in an hour and that they will call her back. Someone called back and told them that if I brought the food back in, I would get a refund. Despite paying by card, they gave me my exact change back. I said "I left a tip as well!" I decided I had enough and just said "keep it!" Never again will I come here. I may not even come to an El Nopal location in the city. Upon calling, the lady informed me that their queso is $9.75, which is double the price at every other el nopal in louisville. Upon looking at their menu their queso is priced at $5.50 (the usual amount). Therefore, the woman overcharged us double and then lied to us.
