We stopped into Chuy's in St. Matthews and had a really solid experience overall. The atmosphere is fun, colorful, and laid back exactly what you want for a casual Tex-Mex spot. I got the tacos, and they were really good. Nothing over-the-top fancy, but everything tasted fresh and well put together. Solid flavor, good portions, and definitely hit the spot. Updated review - it's been several years since we dined here but stopped by for a late lunch. We were sat immediately, which is different from my previous experiences but going mid day might be the best choice. Our chips, salsa and creamy jalapeño dip arrived quickly and we dug right in. I've missed the creamy jalapeño dip so much, it's lite but also so satisfying. I wouldn't classify it as spicy but a welcome treat with chips. I love their chips too - so lite and crispy, easy to eat a basket. For lunch we ordered the chicken fajitas tacos, combo platter with chili and kids burger. The food came out pretty quickly but not before a chip refill. My tacos were good - slightly bland but I was able to build my own taco since it just arrived with meat with the toppings on the side. The chili relleno was fried and crispy and oh so delicious. We usually order it at another chain but it's not crispy on the outside. First time visiting here after moving back to Louisville and I have to say GPS has no clue where this restaurant is located and sent me around the mall in the mall everywhere around the mall but this restaurant. I finally just parked the car and walked there cause I could see it when I started walking. What a great idea. This restaurant was very friendly had massive tables of people very busy, but our server was very attentive and we had three people with us so it was it was awesome. Absolutely love Chuy's! We used to have one nearby in the Chicago area, but it closed. The chicken burrito bowl I had for lunch was so large I was munching on it, from my hotel fridge, for a few days. The chips and salsa were delicious and fresh. Updated review if you don't know by now, I think it's been 18 months since Chuys was bought out by Darden and boy. Oh boy this was mine and my families spot one of our key places that we shared a lot of time together over the last 20 years and it's been ruined. I haven't been there in six months because the last time we went, the experience was bad. The service is bad and the food is starting to take take on the look and premise of prepackaged right out of a can. I literally almost cried. I love the restaurant there in Saint Matthews. My family and my two daughters my wife we were regulars at that restaurant. I knew a lot of the waiters and waitresses. I'm not sure if the manager I've only seen him once, but I think he may also be or was an owner then. He would usually be sitting up at the bar and he made sure things were perfect and most of the time you couldn't get in that place especially on a Friday or Saturday you could forget it. It would be backed out going out the front end. Not anymore the first thing that happened was tthey used to give you free chips and queso or queso was just like under five dollars a bowl now it's almost $10 a bowl now and filling up your chip basket is a lot less frequent than it used to be & you have to ask for salsa and the cream chip dip. Your food comes out to you. It's not hot I got the Elvis Presley combo and it was just warm and guess what else the size of the food your portions are shrinking and they increase the prices. They evidently brought in a whole new set of waiters and waitresses either they're using that chewies for a training for all their other Darden restaurants or what is happen when you have a a giant conglomerate like Darden come in the entire atmosphere changes Used to have beautiful Spanish sometimes a little rock 'n' roll music playing.....that's over I suspect they've gotten a new manager and he's come in and doesn't know the first thing about that restaurant. It's food or how to keep the chewy atmosphere the way it was, and here she is coming and made a bunch of changes and a bunch of the senior staff has quit or maybe I hope that they got promoted to another restaurant or something. It's not the same. It's not special anymore. It's not unique. It's not fun. It's not the Chuy's that made it successful. It's Darden's version of a Mexican restaurant. Good luck. read more

I may not be in Texas right now but no reason can't eat like I am. Amazing bar service!! Andrew the bar tender is so on point! Exactly what I needed today being exhausted in all capacities. My dad passed away today in 2020 and my soul still feels like it was just two minutes ago. Grief is a crazy ride and creeps up on you from nowhere. Today I am allowing my comfort food & drink to help soothe my soul. I needed consistency and finding nothing more consistent than Chuy's. Chicken deluxe is so creamy spicy good. Party of 6, 2 kids 4 adults. CARSON our server was attentive from the start. She was the best server I've had in a very long time! This was a kind of slow Monday night so it was no waiting for a table. Carson was right there ready to ask us what we needed. We ordered various appetizers and drinks. Service was right on time with our drinks and appetizers. The chicken tortilla soup was hands down the best I've ever had. It came in a very large steaming bowl with chunks of white real chicken and avocado. My friend ordered fajitas which were relish as well. Tricky part was the kids and getting straight what they wanted was no easy task but Carson was perfect in her delivery of all the food. Came for dinner around 7:15 ish on a Saturday night. I had put our names on the waitlist online and there was only a 10-20 min wait so we drove over right away. No more parking spots at the front but there were plenty at the back. When we checked in with the hostess, we didn't wait long to be seated. Tons of groups here. Always loud, always a fun vibe. The decor seems mismatched. Palm trees, strung up lights, black and white photos of people I don't recognize. Why does it remind me of Bahama Breeze? We started off with chips, salsa and their jalapeño sauce. Delicious! The chips are thin and easy to munch on. The salsa to me was kind of acidic. Not the best. I like the jalapeño sauce. Creamy and kinda sweet. For our entrees, I got the taco with one enchilada, my sister got enchiladas, and my mom got the combo fajitas. We all liked the food! Tex Mex ain't bad. Food portions arent too much. Doable to eat it all but I was pretty filled up on chips. I only ate my enchilada. I used to come here a lot ten years ago. Brings back memories. Very good service and prices seemed reasonable however, the food was not what we expected. I ordered a chuychinga ,which sounded interesting but upon arrival I changed my mind The entree was plated all over the place. Sloppy The sauce was DOA, room temperature! Oddly flavored and unable to enjoy due to being too cool to allow it to develop. The rice and beans also fell victim to lack of heat. When it comes to cheeseburgers, I always want to eat at Red Robin. Something that looks cool about this place is how they decorate their place is the Statue of Liberty, but instead of the torch, it's a cheeseburger. Pam (our waitress for today) was awesome. I do love TexMex, and I think Chuys does a great job. My food has been pretty consistently tasty, with good quality ingredients. There've only been a couple of slight off moments in a ton of visits. Their food also travels well for takeout or delivery. I've had a range of favorites...the taco salad (I miss their homemade shell!), the Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom enchiladas (they are a little spicy, but have so much flavor), and the Chuy-changa (the latter two are served with Spanish rice and refried beans). Lately, I crave the chicken flautas, tender chicken and cheese, rolled up in a crispy shell. It comes with queso, but I usually ask for a side of their creamy jalapeño as well, which I love. Their tres leches is delicious if you crave dessert, and you can easily share the generous portion. The chips they serve before the meal are the best--so thin and crispy. They also have convenient takeout taco kits for parties, which we've used a few times. The only negatives I will say is that the restaurant can get really loud when they're busy, and the bathrooms are out of order periodically (which seems a bit weird)--but could be there isn't enough help to address it, or other issues. read more

I dunno, maybe it's the insane decorations, or the different furnishings each sections have, or hell , maybe it's even the food. The chips and jalapeño ranch dip is by far the most addicting thing on the menu. Spicy, but not very. Just the right amount of goodness. The texmex fare is usually pretty good, but won't blow you away. Service is good. Drink menu is good, too. Worth checking out, especially if you've never been. As someone from Texas, this place brings back home! Chuy's is a beautifully decorated restaurant with lots of seating (i've never waited for a table here and i've come many times). All the servers i have had are fun to talk to and very good at what they do. you get bottomless chips, salsa, and jalapeño ranch complimentary, and the meal options are very well priced. I LOVE their crunchy shell tacos (i'm not sure how they cook their beef but it's next level) but I normally order the Elvis Presley Combo. In the past two months we've been in twice. The first time back in mid-September the Chuy's creamy ranch style dip was bland, and we past it off as someone new may have made it that day. We went back 10/12 and the dip was the same bland taste as before. Not sure what Chuy's has done now to the dip, but it's not good anymore. My wife pointed out the rice, refried beans all add a different taste or lack of. I guess cost saving measures. Good luck Chuy's. I gave two stars for "Could've been better". I can be patient with slow service, which we definitely had as our party of 10 sat for 15 minutes before there were any waters at our table. However, the price for what you were getting at Chuy's is quite disproportional. The drinks are dilute, yet it still cost $8 to $10 for basic cocktails. It was inconsistently prepared as we ordered four plates of cheese quesadillas some of which had only cheese with a spot of the seasoning, some of which had barely any cheese when it said it was stuffed, and some of which was all seasoning and minimal cheese. So the inconsistency alone is enough to make me not want to come back because you don't know what you're going to get. This was unfortunate as the sitting area was quite cute around the fire pit in the dome, and we would've loved to enjoy it with some reliable food and service. read more

Located in an extremely high traffic and popular area this establishment has had a good Reputation. Locals like to argue whose white sauce chips and salsa is better. Chuy's or Senor iguanas. Me personally while chuys is good it isn't on snot iguana level for me. However that's not bad at all. On my visit here yesterday everything was great. The decor here is amazing. Bright, colorful, busy, humorous and entertaining. Cool place. Service was phenomenal and food was great. I personally ordered the big as your head bean and cheese burrito and got it dipped in queso instead of the sauce choices provided. Great and tasty burrito that was very filling. I also got a drink by the waitress suggestion. A Tito's limeade with blackberry mixed and man was she correct. It's great! One of those drinks that can be dangerous as you can forget it has alcohol in it. But still great. My wife got the steak fajita and said it was very good. My oldest daughter got a tortilla soup and was a fan. The younger ones got a kids cheese quesadilla and cheeseburger and appeared to like it. One cool thing they do is kids who order off kids meals get free push pop ice creams. What a cool and different concept. Because our waitress was good and friendly she gave my 13 year old and one year old one to despite them not ordering of a kids menu. It's things and and service like this that creates loyal customers and we appreciated it. Bill wasn't bad at all. On par with other Mexican food establishments. Overall we had a great time. I love Chuy's. I don't live near one so it's great when I'm visiting and learn there is one. Masks are required in the restaurant until you sit down. Our waiter was awesome and attentive to use. Chips and salsa right away. Drinks were fast. Since they are doing a limited menu. Jared L really helped us find the perfect lunch. Above and beyond what I find in other restaurants. Giant, chaotic, and obnoxiously decorated, Chuy's is disappointing for its menu and is literally one step up from Taco Bell. The menu is snooze worthy and completely unadventurous. I was there with a group of four. The chips they give you are heavy on an oil flavor and we got a chunky, pico de gallo style salsa, some kind of dark queso and a "jalapeno ranch" (spoiler, it was just ranch). The queso was cold by the time it arrived to the table and was just OK, it was really too gloppy and salty for my taste. Had it been hot it might have been better, i dont know. I never got the pico because my tablemate nabbed it for himself. I was left with the ranch and let me tell you, eating tortilla chips with ranch was a new one for me. I ordered the tortilla soup which was on the menu described as "homemade chicken broth with roasted chicken, corn, green chiles, tomato and cilantro, topped with cheese, diced avocado and tortilla strips." When it arrived it was the saddest soup ever. Somehow the avocado and cheese was on the bottom? And there were no tortilla strips, i was just given a foil wrapped pair of warm tortilla? At least the flavor was decent. The presentation of my friends food was awful. Two of them ordered burritos and the other soft tacos. The tacos looked so dry and the tortillas looked raw. The burritos looked dried out and the rice and beans had a burned look like they had been sitting on a plate inside an oven for too long. Literally the only reason why this is a three star review is because of our server. He was fantastic and took care of us while waiting on a table of 17 (!) and never once made us feel neglected. We went to Chuy's tonight. We got the fajitas which we're good. The only thing I'm disappointed because they're taking things off the menu such as their chili rellenos, breaded chicken tenders, excetera excetera. Their excuse is that they don't have they're getting rid of certain stations like the Fry station and it's too time-consuming. That is what brings people to certain restaurants. Very very disappointing for taking the chili rellenos off amongst other things. This may make people not come back or go to another restaurant. I think this will hurt their business. Like I said, the food we got was decent but we're just disappointed they're cutting things off the menu. read more
