This is definitely my new favorite Mexican places to go too! We have been wanting to try it for quite some time now but hadn't had the opportunity and I can't honestly say we have now been 3 times in two weeks lol Their Swirl margaritas are definitely one of my favs in the City and they awesome prides on their pitchers. Homemade Salsa (you heard that right) has great flavor and isn't super chunky which I prefer. Chips are thin and crispy and queso is smooth and creamy, not runny like a lot of other places. I've had the mini chimichangas which comes with 2 chicken and 2 beef, and rice. I will say I wasn't a huge fan of this, the chicken were on the dryer side and the beef lacked flavor. I also got a side of refried beans which I also didn't love. The following week I got the Puerco Asado which was so good!! Pork fried crispy on the outside, mojo sauce, white rice and black beans. I will definitely be getting this again. My husband got the Steak chimichurri - which came with a huge piece of flank steak, I almost couldn't believe it. Popped in here for lunch in the middle of a workday, lovely staff, delicious food for a fantastic price (cheap or expensive depending on what you order!) For $10 I had essentially a Steak Chipotle bowl, which was the perfect amount of food. The table also came with Chips and Salsa which is always appreciated. My only complaint is the bathroom smelled awful....I was trying to get out of there as soon as I could. It just smelled like the cleaner used in Porta Potties, which was just very unexpected. read more

The restaurant is clean, well lit and maintained. Staff were well turned out and polite. There was a small language issue with my waitress. Probably because I learned Spanish in Miami and Cuban Spanish sometimes doesn't transfer... regardless we got thru it. The salsa and chips was good but served in a ridiculously small bowl. Salsa was pretty heavy with raw onions... entree was fiesta fajitas. Flavor was good. It was well cooked and seasoned. That's the good. The portion size was very small for the money, I mean I stopped at subway on the way home small. For $19 I expected much more. As far as value I did not feel I got great value for my money. My first visit to Tres Amigos pulled out all the stops - attentive service, delicious dishes (that chimichurri!), delightful happy hour cocktails, and a beautiful space. What's not to like here? The jammy red sangria was a sleeper hit, I would definitely order again. Their portions are large and the menu is diverse, with Cuban and Tex Mex influences incorporated into what I think of as more foundational Mexican restaurant offerings. Tres Amigos in my mind fills that spot between basic American Mexican franchised restaurants and the high end, more expensive players in town. Their prices are reasonable and as a patron you walk away feeling like you had a VIP experience - the best service, the best food, the best libations they had to offer came your way. After being seated it was almost 10 minutes before chips and salsa were delivered and drinks ordered, another 5 to 10 minutes before drinks delivered. In my quest for Mexican food in Kentucky, I stopped into Tres Amigos based on some good reviews I read here. There was nothing bad about the food, it's just not all that great, either. The chips are good and the flavor of the salsa is decent but it's very mild. I ordered simple hard shell tacos and the taco shells are not homemade; they seem like store bought Ortega shells or something and the seasoning on the ground beef tastes a little pickled. Weird. They're not horrible but I don't think I'd come again as I've discovered some other pretty decent Mexican food places I would definitely return to. The staff is super nice and the service is good. What a surprising and wonderful experience we had! We stayed in a hotel close by and Tres Amigos was convenient to use for dinner. We had no idea the food would be so terrific! It is perhaps the best Mexican restaurant menu we have ever seen! There was a group of 6 of us and everyone loved their meal! I don't eat meat and there were plenty of yummy options. We have been waiting for this place to open for a very long time. Just found out they opened last week, so we rushed over for lunch. Handed several menus which seemed confusing at first, but there was a lunch, aka cart, and alcohol menu. Had the lunch California Burrito. This thing was huge and good. Highly recommend. Fresh, strong margaritas; outstanding chips & scratch-made salsa; excellent carne asada burritos and the cheese-covered chimis we're 10/10. Rice and beans were freshly prepared and full of flavor. Even the garnishes of fresh pico de gallo and pickled onions were excellent. Based on our experience tonight, I'd rank them right up there with Limon Y Sal - maybe even a step above. My biggest compliant is that the taco shells tasted like oil rendering them nearly inedible. Service was too attentive. One of the several servers was always at the table asking if we were enjoying our food/drinks/experience. It was suffocating. Tables are much too small and tightly packed for an enjoyable experience when you have multiple plates. Pre-bussing was nonexistent. We have better Mexican options in the city. Outstanding service, delicious food, and reasonable prices! I took my teenage kids during a summer break outing and had a very pleasant lunch. My son ordered a California burrito (see pic), which was huge but being a teenage boy, he managed to eat the whole thing! And for only $11, it was a bargain. I ordered Shrimp tacos, which came with a few sauce options and toppings, including avocados, to customize. It has 4 wraps so you could make 2 large or 4 small portions. Only $11.99! The chicken soft tacos were also a generous portion and has excellent flavor. Great value for only $4.50! Service was top notch and the restaurant was well decorated and modern, very nice open feel with plenty lighting. Everything!! I got what looked to be shoe leather ( steak) in my taco. As hungry as I was there wasn't enough shoe leather in the taco. It was like 4 shriveled up pieces. The chicken taco on the other hand was quite misleading. I thought oh good there a carrot . Wrong!! It was a piece of orange chicken also limited pieces shriveled up. Our service was a disaster. Drink orders not taken until about 45 minutes in. Then they were wrong and the server acted like we were the problem for wanting it to be right. It got to be almost comical it was so bad. Now the bathroom had other issues. Four roles of toilet paper all over the floor. A smell that a friend said smelled like cat urine. Just remember this is a where you are eating!!! A place that doesn't care about what you ordered or if the bathroom is disgusting. I wish i never walked in the door and paid for that garbage. I would stay home and have leftovers. Cereal, Peanut Butter and Jelly, something that is real food. I don't know what the heck that was they are passing off as Mexican Food. No do not go here. read more

My love of Mexican food all started when my now wife took me to Taco Bell the first time in 1993. That being said, I have since then eaten A LOT of Mexican food. We happened to be in Louisville Kentucky for soccer and my daughter said Mexican. Kind of a family favorite. So Tres Amigos was right across the street. Not many reviews but 5 star, so we tried it. Well you walk in and it's clean. Almost appears newly opened, very nice. Two greeters quickly found us a table. While deciding, I am assuming the manager or owner walked by and asked if we were being helped. Which he checked on us a few times during our visits. I will say excellent service all around. So they bring out the chips and salsa, and in my opinion, that was the best salsa I have ever received at a Mexican restaurant. So fresh and great flavor. My daughter ordered 2 ala carte beef tacos, which she said had great flavor. I ordered the carnitas, and I will repeat, so fresh, super flavorful pork and so tender it fell apart. So I build my taco with the pork and grilled onions, which were perfectly grilled, a little bite to them now over cooked, and they give you grilled plantains which absolutely made the tacos just go off the chart for me. The sauces they give you are also so good. A bit spicy so watch then. But overall I can say if they had this restaurant in St. Louis by us we would there all the time.
