I tried to hate this place the second I heard about. What exactly is a nutri taco? With a name like that, I assumed this front-yard cart would be way too hippie. I had visions of hemp burritos and patchouli posole and I immediately shut down. Visit this cart? No way! That's when I got hungry. I now work in the Woodstock area and was craving mexican food, but also something brand new. I didn't feel like eating soyrizo (definitely rare) and I was feeling more fancy than just rice and beans. I figured I might as well. This cart offers some great burrito options but my favorite is definitely the green burrito which includes cactus, grilled onions, cabbage, salsa and avocado. In addition to their burritos they have vegan tacos, nachos, huaraches, chimichangas and tortas. Although I can't vouch for them, they have a solid list of items con carne and I'm told they're also delicious. All pretty typical fair but I've had a few different items here now and all have been pretty good. Oh, and did I mention they have Mexican coke? El Nutri, consider this deal sealed. read more

I almost had a heart attack when I thought at first they had left their current location. I'll give El Nutri three stars because any place that promotes an array of vegan food deserves it as a minimum. They're also friendly and quick. That being said, (and I must be the odd yelper out on this one based on the reviews) most of their food can be summed up like this: too salty or intensely hot. I'm also not really a fan of their soyrizo, and it's definitely a staple in a lot of their vegan options. I typically end up getting the chenchos burrito when I go, but always feel unsatisfied from the huge amount of iceberg lettuce in it. I admire them for providing such a wide selection of vegan options, and I wish that I could be like all of the other yelpers and find this place amazing, but I guess it's just not in the cards for me. read more

If there ever was a place that made a decision-making process more uncertain due the sheer multitude of options on the menu as well as questionable organization of said menu (it is partially scattered all over the truck in no particular pattern), I would be surprised. Conversely, if there ever was a place where I would be willing to overlook such nuance, this would be it too. Nuances are secondary where good food is of primary importance. I'm not surprised that the food here is consistently deserving of praise, I'm surprised that they chose to place the truck so far away from where they would get better recognition and the most foot traffic per peso. On a separate note ... potato tacos, fried soy curls ... interesting... This cart might just contribute to the elevation of vegetarian options in the upward direction on my otherwise carnivorous to-eat list. read more

It is so depressing this place is temporarily closed for the winter while they are also doing construction. This place is so good and by far the best vegetarian as well as the best vegan Mexican in town. Everything is both vastly superior to most Mexican restaurants in both portion size as well as overall quality of ingredient. May I just say, no matter what - meat or not - their nachos are the perfect nachos. Some places make nachos that are so depressing and underwhelming, and basic. I can definitely see why the reviews are so good for this cart. I've had better burritos, but not that many. The tacos are as good as my other favorite places, and they have an amazing selection, especially for vegan and vegetarian, but I have to have my meat. Both times I got the Fire Burrito with Al Pastor, once my hubby shared it and each got a taco. I've been back twice now, once I brought my friend and her kids. Kids meals are cheap, which is great. It's a pretty good burrito. Toward the end it really gets good and saucy; but there is better out there, in a sit down establishment with high rents, that is still cheaper. Hence, I can't give it 5 stars. Horchata is good, and large for $2. Chips and salsa is $4, my burrito is $6, and while not the largest I've seen, it's big enough to fill up one hungry person. read more

We popped in one night in the summer, and even though they were just about closed, they served us anyway. This is one of our favorite Vegan Mexican spots. This food truck makes a variety of different vegan style burritos, tortas, enchiladas, nachos etc. Its awesome to have options so close to home. I typically get the taco salad with either soy curls or tempeh. The tortilla shell is baked to perfection and the lettuce, beans, tempeh and guac are a mixture of flavor. I love this place! Satisfying portions, tasty ingredients, and a lot of choices for veggie/vegans AND omnivores - the veggie/vegan menu is actually larger than the non-veg menu! I love their chimichanga with chipotle soy curls (seriously, this is vegan? Amazing and delicious!), and the chipotle tempeh burrito. The chicken and beef burritos are also delicious, according to Mr. Cat. The burritos and chimichangas are BIG, and they can be split in half so you have another meal for later. The people working at this cart are polite and totally willing to make adjustments (I hate cheese and sour cream, whether they're vegan or not) when you ask. The wait time if you order certain items (like the chimichanga) might seem excessive, but keep in mind that you're getting real food cooked in real time, not just fast food. Okay... I know what you're thinking "nutri taco"? Like nutria? Those gross swamp rats? I admittedly didn't eat here for years because of this thought process. Get over it and eat this food. A taco truck in someone's front yard? Pretty darn Portland, right? Oh they have a full vegan menu? Yeah, Portland for sure. I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob. I grew up on the stuff and expect a certain level of quality. The secret to judging a Mexican joint? Beans. They're so simple that it's a good show of the cook's abilities. Nutri taco pinto beans are good beans. I don't have a favorite dish, they are all pretty darn good. We got a couple hundred tacos for a company picnic a few years ago and I got to try all of their proteins. Meat and vegetarian options were all very good. If you're going veggie, though, try the green taco... No meat substitute, just veggies. Oh, and the service! So kind. One time, the owner forgot an extra side of beans for my to go order. I didn't mind and I didn't go back. She remembered this and discounted my next order a couple weeks later!!! Take your extra books with you to leave in the "Little Free Library " out front. Back in California our favorite taco stand was located at a gas station. So OF COURSE we were cool with dining from a taco truck in someones front yard. Fresh produce, beans and hot sauce. Perfect just perfect. Second and third trips to the truck I have the enchilada burrito. You take a normal chicken burrito then it is bathed in an enchilada sauce. It is served with a side of sour cream, rice, beans and a small salad with lettuce, tomato, onion and avocado. My most recent trip I had the Ham and Cheese quesadilla. They have a cool fancy name for it that even my years of high school Spanish classes couldn't help me pronounce. It was served with sour cream and a small salad. I love Nurti Taco. I love sitting on their little porch and eating my food while watching Woodstock St. go buy. It is great and fun. I love taking newbies to the taco truck. Especially my mom.
