This is my go to restaurant in Uniontown. It is never a long wait to get our food and the servers are very attentive. There is never any issue if I modify my entree to include or exclude ingredients. This place has the best margaritas! My wife and I always get Queso for our chips. My go to entrees are the Molcajete, Burrito Durango or any of the Fajitas all of which are a lot of food. They have menu items for kids that don't like to try something new. They will make an effort to accommodate special requests if you don't see exactly what you want. I don't think I have sat at a table or booth where I was unable to see a TV. Great place to watch sports during mealtimes. It is never too loud and even when it is really busy I don't feel crowded. I only have one complaint and that is concerning the fee they charge to pay with a card. It was either 3 or 4% as I recall. Par for the course considering the state of the economy. Not going to dock a star for it though. read more

I have a much better opinion of the establishment after returning for another try. Now I'm going about every day. Have to admit because I want a beer that is highly rejected at my home. My first couple of visits, I felt that a couple of people who managed/worked were very unfriendly/hospitable. So I didn't return for a while. Now I have had exactly the opposite experience. They are professional and remember you and what you like. They are polite and friendly but keep it to a minimum as they are busy maintaining the service and cleanliness to all patrons. I have not tried many choices in food items. But what I have tried is very good and the service is excellent so far. Very fast service even in busy times. It is a larger much nicer Mexican/Latino restaurant. Appears to be quite clean overall; very nice decor and in generally very good condition. Unlike many others. And it's been mostly warm in these bad temperatures. I really dislike sitting in a restaurant with a winter coat on and it's cold the whole time you are there. I only eat seafood as a meat item and no other animal sources. So my shrimp tacos have been very good. Their chips and guacamole are actually excellent as compared to other same style restaurants and are stated to be homemade. I'd try more choices but I like others are in a financial bind. I do enjoy the draft dos equis amber beer. Very fresh. I have had too many stale ones elsewhere. So even if I have to drive an extra 20 min in my trip, I will do so now every time as the latest restaurant i am sitting at right now is extremely disappointing and I will not go back there (have tried this other place in California 3 times and it's awful today and very cold. Stale chips stale beer and so so guacamole. Little "hole in the wall.") Tomorrow it's back to El Patron in Uniontown PA. I'll rate the food more once I try more. read more

I'm having a bad streak of dining out, sorry for the negativity on your feed! Stopped in on a weeknight, the food itself was just simply not good. The salsa had no flavor, and my entree fell very short. The prices were very reasonable, and portions were large. Sadly, the quality of the food was just not very good. My shrimp was so plain, and was sitting in what seemed like a runny tomato paste. The rice wasn't authentic, and the beans just seemed canned. read more

I hate to say this, but 3 stars is generous for my visit. Details: Saturday/ 1/14/2023 at 7:3pm. Seating: immediate (party of 1) Order: Special Yolandas (chicken enchiladas), frozen raspberry margarita, and the complimentary chips/salsa. Impression: -First: is salt illegal in Pennsylvania? Or forbidden on the menu? This is my first time in PA and I'm not sure. I don't like a lot of salt, but dang, I could not taste any on the chips, meal, or salsa. And there wasn't a salt shaker on the table for me to add a little. Seriously, is salt illegal in this state?? -Second: it's bad enough that there didn't seem to be salt on/in anything, but the chicken enchiladas were really dry and plain. Hardly any moisture or flavor. I only ended up eating 1.5 of the 3 enchiladas. -The rice was ok and, thankfully, not dry. -The guac had cilantro, so I didn't even try it. Cilantro p*sses me off very very badly, and I wish Mexican restaurants would not put it in everything. Or at least offer cilantro-free versions. Bottom line: others may love this place based on the 4.5 star average, but I was not impressed at all. Sorry, not sorry. 3 stars for this meal is actually generous. read more

Walking in I thought this place would be authentic. The decor inside and out was a good representation of Mexico. The menu had alot of choices. I was looking forward to a true Mexican meal and ordered three soft chicken tacos. What I received was anything but authentic. I have had better Mexican at Taco Bell. The soft tortillas were not grilled or even warmed. The chicken was extremely dry and flavorless. I specifically did no tomatoes only to discover stewed tomatoes under the meat. Shredded lettuce but no cheese. Why no cheese? I did order sour cream for an upcharge....was cheese extra too? I have no idea but got none. No lime or cilantro garnishment either. The complimentary chips and salsa was lifeless. Tasted like cardboard and the salsa extremely runny. My horchata was clearly from a mix, the least they could have done was add a sprinkle of cinnamon. Prices were fair and entree sizes were decent, it's a shame it's not worth eating. Service was OK, Would not stop here again. read more

I'll admit, the environment and food is great. Although, the last time I was here a waiter came with my fajitas so fast he slid the sizzling pan right into my lap. I was wearing shorts. He never even apologized and walked away. This other waitress who wasn't even serving my table was the one who apologized and gave me some cream. I hope she is doing well. I went to Med Express and they said I had second degree burns. It was horrible to walk for a while. Now, I have a huge scar on my leg and tiny little scars from the burn. I was too anxious to say or do anything back then, but now I am telling my story. I don't know what happened to that waiter. read more

Skip it. We had lunch here and it was just not good. Chips taste they are dumped from a bag bought at Walmart and salsa tastes like Pace salsa from the grocery store. Server was not very friendly, music was very loud and we had separate music playing in the bar side from the music playing in the main dining area. We asked our server if they could turn the music down a bit, two different types playing loudly above our heads wasn't conducive to even talking at our table. She looked at us like we were nuts but was nice enough to turn music down. Husbands fajitas were bland and not seasoned well. My beef taco and chicken enchilada were awful. The ground beef looked like dog food and tasted about the same. Chicken in the enchilada looked boiled. Gross. I barely ate anything. Stole some of my husbands refried beans, they were ok. Ladies room was old and rather dirty. Saw two ants on the floor. $22 for a crappy lunch. Pass this place over. read more

El Patron is the original Mexican spot in Uniontown, locals will understand this haha. I've been going here since I was a teen before my license and has never let me down. The atmosphere is pretty good as your typical restaurant of this cuisine, could be tad bit brighter but who cares, we're getting tacos! Service is always great, quick and so polite when here. I usually get the burrito durango as it is packed with everything and so delicious with the queso poured over and chips. But as I've been on my hunt for great street style tacos I switched up. These tacos were great! I was definitely surprised but not as pleased. They were a little dry but if you're normal and out lime and sauce on they are perfect. El Patron is a great place for family, friends and dates. Definitely a must if you're in the area! read more

Very mediocre. Started by ordering a Texas Margarita straight up. Waiter brings a big mug-like drink filled with ice. I tell him that's not straight up and he brings me the same big mug-like glass now half filled with a warm margarita. Should have known better since the menu offered pitchers of this lousy margarita. It went downhill from there. Couldn't get waiter to come back to take our order. Finally ordered mixed fajitas and chimichangas. Both just very ordinary. Mixed fajitas had some of the meat and veggies charred black on the hot sizzling plate. Also just to make things interesting wait staff were super load dumping plates into trays as they cleared tables. All in all find someplace else. read more

My family and friends have gone here for the past 8 years. I cannot say enough. They always remember me, what I like, and even where I like to sit! The people are just friendly and the food is very good. The atmosphere is pleasant and we always look forward to visiting. I would definitely consider El Patron! Over the years, have tried numerous dishes, and all have been great. But recently, it was cold outside so tried their soups. What a surprise, absolutely delicious with an amazing portion the bowl size, lots & lots of chicken, rice, and topping. This is your standard Mexican restaurant. It's not a secret hole-in-the-wall where your waitress is the chef's niece and there are no enchiladas on the menu. This is the type of Mexican restaurant that somehow is present in every rural/agricultural town above a certain size, the sort of place where all the locals go to get an embarrassing sombrero picture taken on birthdays. We ended up here because our rafting guide on the Ohiopyle was from Uniontown and said it was the best restaurant in town. The margaritas taste like they come from a mix and dishes are giant and have excessive cheese on top, but the chips and salsa keep coming and you overeat so much that you end up lying on the hotel bed groaning and wondering how you managed to fit all that food inside of you. Why? Because it's a rural Mexican restaurant. That's what you're supposed to do. El Patron is a Mexican restaurant. Do you want Mexican food? Come here. We chose this place as it was adjacent to our hotel. Surprisingly, it was not easily walk-able, though; we drover around the block to get there. The vibe here is 'local'. That is in no way a bad thing; we saw several couples/parties come in who greeted their server like old friends. They must be doing something right to have (apparently) loyal customers like that. One thing I found odd was the partially frosted windows in the doors out to their patio. The windows said something like 'pasta', implying that maybe this had been an Italian restaurant at some point. It also looks like it has been a Mexican place for a while, so I was surprised that they hadn't gotten around to replacing the windows. Not a complaint, just unusual. They have a fairly standard selection of entrees and combos. I got one of the combos while my wife got a burrito platter. I asked for a wine off the menu and they discovered that they were out. They only have the one house version of each type of wine, so I was surprised they couldn't retain a stock of at least one bottle of each. Then again, it probably isn't their most popular drink. I finished my plate, though my wife had some leftovers. While I have Mexican restaurants that I'd prefer back where I live, you can certainly get a good meal here. It could be the best Mexican place in this area, for all I know. And at least they have actual mints at the cashier's counter! read more

Stopped in town to visit with family members on a Tuesday evening around 6pm. The place has nice decor, pretty good size bar area and descent size dining area inside with a fair size outdoor dining area. The staff was few and it really showed with the slow service we received. One of the servers accent was very thick so it was hard to understand what he was saying but very polite and professional. The complementary chips and salsa were just okay, especially the chips. The bottled beer was ice cold which always goes well with Mexican food. I ordered the 3 chicken tacos off the À la cart menu and a side order of beans with rice. The chicken tacos were pretty good thanks to the marinade and the $1 up charge for cheese. The downside was the chicken was a little over cooked and dry. Now the beans and rice were honestly some of the best I've eaten. The rice had some mixed veggies and seasoned just right while the beans were sprinkled with that yummy cheese from on the tacos. Overall, given the current conditions Covid-19 I would say they rate a 3.5. The #1 thing they should focus on is adding more staff, flavor to the food (enchiladas especially), Consider spicing up the salsa and changing to a better quality tortilla chip.
