I love Mexican food more than any other food (except maybe cake). I'm making it a personal mission to try as many Mexican restaurants as I possibly can now that I'm finally back home. Since El Pelicano is across the street from my new house, it was the natural first place to start. You can tell by the pictures that they have a lively dining area complete with club lights, tropical plants on the walls, and beachy murals. Definitely reminded me of a beach club or resort vacation in Florida or Cancun. LOTS of TVs blasting "El Gran Charro de Huentitán" performances and a live mariachi group performed around 6pm or so. My Tacos de Pescado Estilo Ensenada was very generous and delicious. The fish was a little plain; I was hoping for more spice. The salsa had a nice kick though. I usually forget to check in and take pics because I'm so excited to stuff food in my cakehole, but I remembered this time! So glad I did because they have a check-in Yelp offer for a free margarita that you have to use during your visit. It was a full size marg and didn't taste like they skimped on the tequila. They automatically add in 18% gratuity to your bill. We always tip well but I dislike how they forcefully add this. I've been here a few times and they've never done that. They used to serve complimentary Jaiva and Chips for free and now they charge 1.99 for a tiny bowl (receipt). They replaced it with beans. The waitress that attended us was super nice, no complaints there. They used to have menus with pictures of their plates and it looks like they've decreased their selection and zero pictures, I like visuals lol. It's super nice inside and they're always changing the appearance/atmosphere. I ordered the Cameron's Fiesta. It was very good but for $28 it was not worth it for the portion size. I also ordered the Horchata drink and my goodness it's the best one I have ever tried. You can tell it's made from scratch and not from powder lol if that makes sense. The first restaurant my friends and I tried in Denver. I was skeptical, because a lot of the negative reviews. I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious, greasy, authentic food. The asada tacos came in on a hot stone plate and it was hot and crispy with great flavor. My boyfriend said his chicken enchilada was the best he's ever had. My friend had the seafood bucket and I tried the shrimp, which was cooked well and super flavorful. The only downside was the extremely slow service. Things are not always what they appear to be . The ambiance is very dark, kinda cozy, and the music is upbeat. The service was great, our waitress was very friendly and she did offer and bring us drinks in a timely manner. Where do I start, the fish had absolutely NO flavor, and although the waitress did tell me it was fried in fresh out the after taste of eating it is very greasy in your mouth. Total disappointment. The Peruvian ceviche that my wife ordered was a 2 out of 10.i am Peruvian and let's just say they need to change the name on the menu because this plate they give you is not even cooked with sway fish, I have no idea what they use. The seasoning was to say the amount of lime and salt was not balanced to taste. I give it a 2 because they did give you cancha, which is fried corn with the ceviche. The guacamole was fresh but nothing to brag about just some avocado that had no taste really. The soda we ordered was flat with no gas at all. Like what the heck??? The water tastes better than the soda. The empanadas were ok! The bathrooms were clean and smelled clean, so that and the good customer service is the only reason I give this place a 2 star. After $83 plus tip this was $100 down the drain. If you want your food to taste bland and have a greasy after taste this might be the place to throw away your money at. This is probably more of a drinking spot than anything but I didn't really look at their menu. Please believe their 3 star rating, and save your hard earned money. I really like this place. The food is good, they have a great selection of tequila, and there is live music on the stage in the back room. They always seem to be busy. There are families as well as the barfly types buzzing around. This is a seafood place with really good selections. You can get octopus tacos or a delicious Mexican style shrimp coctel. The also offer big grill selections that come out on a hot plate. These are meant to be shared and are a really fun way to try different things here. They always give you chips and salsa. One is traditional salsa and the other is a crab salad. Both are really yummy. The music is usually on Friday and Saturday but there always seems to be a mariachi band running around too. Sadly they recently had a fire on their patio which shut them down for a while while they remodeled. The patio is gone now, but the interior is new and updated. I am so glad to see them back open. Looked like it had big personality from the parking lot- and by that I meant it looked like it could be a big win or a total flop... it was a big win. I came to celebrate my moms birthday yesterday and they were great! The staff is super attentive and friendly. The food selections aren't too bad. We got the mexican appetizer that came with chicken and meat sided with guac. I ordered the piñata de mariscos which is a pineapple filled with shrimp, octopus , clam covered in cheese! Saturday April 3rd 2010, went to Marisco El Pelicano with 10 friends from (I.C.E) meetup. Made a reservation prior this event. We were seated at the other side of the restaurant, on the left wing of the building. 2 groups of 4 people, each group ordered the "BIG SEAFOOD PLATTER" named Parrillada El Pelicano. The Parrillada consists of mostly seafood like scallops, shrimps, crab legs, mussels, squids, oysters. While 3 of my frens order different dishes from the menu. If I could recall properly 2 of the dishes are Camorones a la Diabla and Mojarra Frita. Each entrees comes with rice, fries and some vegetables like cucumber, tomatoes, bed of lettuce mix with some avocados. I like the flavor of the rice. Its a toss for between 3.25 to 3.75 stars for Mariscos El Pelicano that evening for me. The evening was great with the food and the company but NOT so great due to the fact they had a Spanish Mexican singer blasting away karaoke-ing away for the fans, families dining away at the other side of the restaurant. At the end of the evening, my friends like what they ate and they would love to return in the future. Might return in the future with Hubs perhaps on a weekday trip and see how things will differ. read more

The kid had tacos de asada with beans and rice and older boys had Pulpo A La Diabla. Very spicy. They normally don't finish there food but ate it all up this time. I had the excellent Mojarra Frita whole breaded seasoned and deep fried fish. This was one of the best I've had in a while. We also had horchata and had made piña. Yummy!!!! We decided to go here on a Saturday for lunch because Tacos Selene's was too crowded and, boy are we glad we did!!!!! Head's up, this is not a typical Mexican restaurant. They specialize in Mexican seafood and steaks so if you're looking for the classic hard tacos, tamales, chili rellenos, burritos, etc., you will not find them here. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and is non-suspecting. They have a fenced in outdoor spacious patio which was nice but since it was 93 degrees we opted to sit inside. When we approached the door, a woman greeted us with "welcome." Once inside, it is decorated with beach-type decorations and sea creatures, painted beach wall murals, palm trees, and a cute little beach hut where you pay and it was clean. Some might consider it cheesy but we thought it was cute. There was Mexican music playing but it was not overly loud. We remarked that it felt like we were on vacation in Mexico. Sometimes authentic Mexican restaurants tend to be a bit put off by non-Hispanic patrons but our server, Elsa was gracious, lovely, and attentive, and made us feel welcome. Now for the food! We shared the Botana Cevichera because we love ceviche and are always trying to find the best ceviche in town and it was freakin' delicious. It's basically different samples of ceviche served in this cute round terra cotta platter with individual dishes that fit inside. In the center was a hot sauce which we think may have been made with tomatillos, lime juice and jalapeño although that was just a guess. Each ceviche has its own personality and it was served with tostadas and saltine crackers. We also got free chips, salsa, a smokey crab dip and some warm bean thing and all were equally delicious. The house margaritas we ordered were really good and I say that being really partial to our homemade simple margaritas using lime juice and not sour mix; they were a bit potent too. When we left, a small band was playing out on the patio and they smiled at us and told us to come join the party! The pros: Great atmosphere, had live mariachi music, great micheladas, our aguachiles (appetizer) was really tasty & decent size, carne asada plate was very good & came with hand made corn tortillas, my wife ordered the ribeye w grilled veggies, that was surprisingly good. The cons: Hot sauce wasn't hot, waitress was not proactive, drinks were not refilled unless we waiver her down & directed her to do so, and even then only refilled the one told, l although all of our drinks were dry. I came here with a friend on national margarita day (2/22/23). We ordered margaritas and the baked oysters and ... . Nothing was good. I couldn't finish the oysters and the margarita was wayyy too tart. Needless to say, I wound up with a very bad stomach ache that lasted about 24hrs and impacted my sleep. Not at all worth going. I've been here several times. They have average to below average micheladas, which they heavily advertise and feature. If you aren't into seafood then go elsewhere.
