I'm so glad I found this place! We were looking for a place to get oysters and were so happy to have found this hidden gem!! It's a really tiny, to-go type restaurant. You order in the front and you take whatever seat you can find. There's also outdoor seating as well, but it does get a little chilly! This is our second visit, and we never had issues with the service. They're very friendly and they help clear the table if it's not that busy. The oysters are really tasty. We usually order 36(?) between the two of us and we finish it every time! The shrimp ceviche is also really tasty, and probably the best in this general area. We ended up ordering the carne tacos this time and it was surprisingly really flavorful!! We stopped here for a late lunch and it was very good! Friendly staff in this quaint small seafood restaurant. Outdoor seating for pets! I had the clam chowder it was decent. Not the best but a solid chowder. My husband had the halibut tacos which he rated a 10. We also had garlic fries very good! Not a big place for alcohol drinks. They did have some beer and not great wine options. I would suggest they get more options for the wine for sure or offer seltzers or cider. Stopped by because we wanted to try a lesser known spot than the usual spots by the beach. We were greeted with a friendly smile and given a menu to browse. They also have daily specials. I ordered a three piece fish & chips while my eye ordered the shrimp & chips. The fish was cooked perfectly. The prawns were a good quality and size. The fries were very lightly seasoned. Maybe ask for some more seasoning if that's your thing. They have a few alcohol choices and a self serve soda machine. My order of fish tacos came with a long black hair in one of the tacos, the lady who took my order saw me looking at my food and asked if there was a problem I showed her the hair taco and told her I don't mind keeping the one that was ok if I could just replace the one with the hair, she was nice and apologized. When she took the taco to the cook to show him he looked right at me gave me a dirty look and kept shaking his head then repeatedly looked over at me giving me dirty looks while he made a new taco. It's sad because the food was actually pretty good but I will not return here and I will tell family and friends of the experience with the rude cook who apparently thinks hair in food is acceptable but would do well to invest in some hair nets for himself and staff . read more

Came here after seeing how busy it was. We had the fish and chips. So fresh and tasty. About the best we have ever had. Light beer battered. Also had the clam chowder. My Brother has been telling me for months that I have got to try this place. He visits from Oregon and I live in Morro Bay. We had lunch yesterday and we both ordered halibut fish, and chips. It was absolutely perfect. The batter was light not too overbearing very crunchy and a fish was super tender. Coleslaw excellent! Very friendly, outstanding service. The aguachiles were ON POINT. A refreshing, bright salsa covering the plump tender shrimp. It wasn't too spicy so it was very enjoyable. The chicken tenders were surprisingly juicy and well fried. We live just a few blocks away and can't believe this was our first time! First off, The staff was unbelievably kind and thoughtful. With that said I was amazed at how they stayed on top of making sure all the tables clean! Last but not least The food was delicious! I got the fish and chips. They were perfectly fried with a light batter that was crispy and the fish was juice and tender. My husband got the Cabo tacos and he said they were at the top of is favorite list( which is hard to do). The staff came and checked on us half way through. So we just found our new seafood spot‼ If you are searching for some delicious seafood you have to try this place. We drove to Grover Beach and we were feeling hungry so we decided to try this spot. A family ran business opened just a few months. But they go it down right. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but it has a very nice patio area with shaded umbrellas. The restaurant was very clean and you could see the cooks working their magic in the kitchen. We had the Cabo Fish tacos and the shrimp tostadas. Both dishes were fresh and so delicious. My husband said the battery on the fish tacos were even tastier than Cape Cod in Shell Beach!! The food was priced appropriately, not over priced at all, we hope it stays that way. Great little spot for lunch. We sat outside because every table inside was taken. It's a popular place!! We surprisingly didn't wait too long for food. We ordered fish tacos. I had one fried fish and one shrimp taco with a salad. I liked the fried one better. The salad was nice and fresh. I was going to comment that it was a bit pricy for lunch,($18) but that was a lot of food. I've had fish tacos from Baja all the way up to Vancouver. I'd rate this an 8 out of 10. I'd give 4.5 stars if they allowed half stars. I had my first meal at Pier 101 Seafood yesterday. I'm always looking for good fish and chips. There are a lot of places on the Central Coast who claim to have the best/award-winning/blah blah blah fish and chips, but you couldn't prove it to me. Pier 101's fish is really good! Fish was flakey, not overcooked. The French fries were nicely done, slightly crunchy on the outside, but could have used a little seasoning (paprika?). I would have liked some cole slaw with my fish and chips, but it is not on the menu. Everything seemed clean and the staff was friendly. Atmosphere-wise, it was just a restaurant, nothing special. So we went for dinner at 430 PM on a Monday to make sure we got a seat. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: - Location: It depends. Pier 101 is at the corner of Grand Avenue and 8th Street so that's great if you're near Highway 1, but not as good if you're coming from 101. Plus there's still road construction on that part of Grand (see cons). - Food Quantity: Big portions everywhere! - Service: Exceptional. Although you order at the cash register, the young women walking around were very friendly and helpful. Lots of smiles! - Price: Tough to beat. Almost everything was below $20...with most things $10-15. They must be operating on a low margin. - Parking: No problem. There's a big lot across 8th Street with a ton of spaces. Cons: - Food Quality: Disappointing. All the reviews raved about the food...and while it wasn't bad...it reminded us of what you get from a food truck. My Shrimp Tacos ($17) had an "unusual" aftertaste and the accompanying garlic fries were mighty light on garlic. My wife had Steamed Clams and Mussels ($17) and said the "clams were fine, but the mussels were dry and tough". One friend had Fish and Chips (3 pieces for $16) while her husband had Seafood Penne Pasta ($20). He really liked his dish while she said her's was "pretty good". - Ambiance: Like a beach shack. Pier 101 is small with 5 tables for 4 people each plus a few picnic tables outside. It's clean, but basic. Utensils were plastic. The restaurant version of a "start-up". - Location: Construction on Grand Avenue drags on after 2 years and the turn onto 8th Street was blocked on the day we ate. - Menu: Kind of limited. They're probably doing everything possible with the kitchen space. There's no beer or wine, but they might be waiting for a license. With Pier 101, you need to set proper expectations. Given all the rave reviews, we expected to be blown away. And you will....if big quantities of okay food at low prices are most important. read more

Pier 101 is a new spot that is getting a lot of well deserved hype from locals. We tried the rockfish tacos and the 3pc fish & chips - both were delicious, cooked fresh to order, neither overly oily or salty. The fish and sides were also decently portioned for the prices. It's so refreshing to have a local seafood option that is more reasonably priced than the beachside tourist traps. I'm looking forward to trying more of their menu items! read more

I used to really enjoy this place when it first opened and often recommended it as having the best fish and chips in the area. The girls at the counter are kind but the chef in back rarely smiles. Unfortunately, my last two visits were a bit disappointing, as the quality didn't seem quite the same as before. I'm not sure if there's been a change in fish suppliers since they opened, but both times the fish was just so-so. Some of the pieces arrived soggy, which was disappointing because it was placed on lettuce and that wasn't pleasant. It had some dark areas in the fish and was not white and flaky. Completely different than the other 4 times I got fish from them before. For now, I will need to pass and find another place to get my F&C fix. read more

Just finished chillin at the dunes and was craving some seafood. So glad I found this place! The ladies at the register are very friendly and attentive. They were knowledgeable about the menu and it helped me ultimately choose the seafood pasta. My other half got a cheese burger with fries. The first thing I noticed when I got the food was that everything was cooked fresh! Piping hot but at least you know it was made just for you. The seafood pasta was overflowing with seafood. I live in Tucson AZ. I know good tacos. The corn tortillas tasted like Abuela just made them. So authentic. Huge chucks of white fish with slight spice but not too much. Family run. Friendly clean and efficient. The only suggestion I have is to offer the tacos for a couple bucks cheaper rather than including fries or salad as side. Tacos are filling enough. Best Cabo Fish tacos in the area in flavor and size! So far they have always used fresh fish and keep a clean kitchen, I have never gotten sick which says a lot for most of the other fish taco places in the region. I have eaten their fish tacos 10x since their opening. So far they're consistent and I hope and pray they stay the course because they will easily take the crown and be the fish taco destination spot of the Central Coast.
