We got a seat in front of one of their windows with a nice view of the area. We ordered the Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl with Loaded Toppings to share since we were still a little full from breakfast. It was so good - I loved the added toppings of green onions, seafood, cheese and even bacon! They also offer Fish and Chips, Chicken Strips, burgers and specialty sandwiches like their Lobster Roll and Shrimp SLO Boy. I also saw a entire case of fresh baked goods! Staff weren't overly friendly at the counter, but the employee who brought us our order was lovely. I heard this cafe had the reputation for serving the best clam chowder so my expectations were high going in. I came in on a Friday around 1pm. There was a long line, but it moved briskly. Once I ordered I received my food within 5 minutes. I ordered a pint of clam chowder and onion rings. The chowder lived up to the billing. Absolutely delicious! I was so excited to try their "famous" clam chowder bread bowl, and it did not disappoint. I am very picky and so many clam chowders are watery, full of potatoes, and very little clams. This one has the perfect consistency, great ratio of potatoes and clams, and nice and hot and hearty. When we arrived there was a decent sized line that moved quickly. Other than clam chowder they also offer sandwiches, burgers, and have daily specials. So I am sure that we have been here before and we didn't think much of it meaning it might've been a four star when we were here years ago. But now that everything has gone up in price and we were trying other restaurants with lobster rolls. We paid $32 for a lobster roll yesterday somewhere else and the lobster roll here for $17 Was way bigger. I know lobster went up in price, but you could buy a pair of shoes for $32. Everytime we in Pismo, we always have to grab their clam chowder. It hits every time! Nice creamy, buttery taste with a plump little clam in almost every bite. It's even better in their bread bowls. And then I grabbed myself a lobster roll since I noticed it was a weekday special and it just so happened to be Monday which made the lobster roll on sale for $15.95.. $2 off the usual price. Inside and out.. even in the back near the restrooms it was people eating and waiting for their name to be called to get their food. There was even a line to the restrooms. Heard my name, got the food, headed to the Beach and ate there. The calamari and curly fries was just okay. Not the best I had. They gave me way more fries than calamari. Fries got cold quick. The lobster roll was not that good. It looks like small chunks of lobster mixed with what could be shredded up imitation lobster or crab. I would not get that again. The chowder as expected, was delicious! And it being in the bread bowl was even better! Overall I think this place is overrated. It's just good for their chowder. Amazing attendants, and service was quick The clam chowder is arguably the best I have had , huge chunks of clam and savory delicious bisque. Best hands down. I did also order the lobster roll unfortunately that was a little bit disappointing. I am used the lobster part being buttered up and only lobster? This one was made more like a deli crab salad . A mixture of imitation crab and I think langostine (not even real crabmeat) like the little langostine you can get at Trader Joe's. I think there's two styles of lobster roll. I got the famous bread bowl with chowder. They give a good sized portion of bread and chowder and I definitely had a lot leftover. The clam chowder was a little more on the saltier side for me but still very delicious, and they gave a lot of fillings. It was meaty and hearty and definitely hit the right spots on a cold day. I've came here twice now and both times I was blown away. Located super close to the beach parking lot and pier with plenty of parking. We came today around 11am and there was already a line that managed to move pretty quickly. The last time the line was around the block but still went fast enough that it didn't discourage anyone in line. I ordered the clam chowder with everything in it. It looked like a poke bowl at first, it was so loaded. I regret not getting a bread bowl this time because a few bites in we both mentioned how good a piece of some good toasted bread would enhance this through the roof. We also added some of the jalapeños from our fish taco to our chowder and it was amazing. Definitely gonna request that next time if possible. The food isn't cheap but id say you get your money's worth. I made the mistake of adding a custom tip and slipped in an extra zero. 40 dollar tip wasn't my intention but I wasn't gonna cry about it.
