Not all El Pollo Locos are the same - that's for sure. But I come here at least once a week and it rarely disappoints. Sometimes with a to-go order the chicken is a little dried out (which is why I took off a star), but overall, the staff is great and the chicken consistent. I usually dine with the guy that rings the bell - which is his way of applauding the staff for making our dinner delicious haha. This place is a great choice for a pretty healthy dinner at a decent price (you can't beat their prices when you use a coupon). read more

My family and I have been coming to this EPL for years. I am sad to say that in the recent past, the quality of food and service has significantly decreased. Yes, this location is clean, and the parking is easy, but that's really where the positives end. Each time I have gone lately (a total of 5-6 times), the chicken in the Pollo Bowl has been dry, grisly dark meat. They used to put chunks of fresh breast meat in the Pollo Bowls - now you get 2 tablespoons of what looks like chicken jerky. Chicken combo meals are also dry and the portions have shrunk. The tortillas feel stale, and the condiments feel like they've been sitting out for a while. The worst part is how stingy they are with everything. You have to beg for salsa, straws, etc... if you don't ask they'll give you 2-3 salsas for a family meal. And the small salsa containers are half full. They give you attitude when you ask for more. This is all really disappointing because the prices have increased while the quality has really decreased. There are so many other great dining options in this area that we won't be returning to this EPL until changes are made. For the same price, you can get a huge sandwich and side at Gelson's which is fresh, organic and filling and which will last you two meals. read more

Have ordered dozens of times from here and never had an issue (I've had other EPL locations miss a chicken or two, but no issues here). Here, I've done online/app orders, drive thru and counter orders and food is there on time and ready, sometimes earlier than expected. Food is good, prices are fine, more expensive than a year ago, but seems that's happening everywhere. Service is pretty good here too, I have asked questions about items and had special requests which were honored, and good attitude. I almost always use a coupon here and they are everywhere. We get coupons in the mail, those are the best ones. There's also occasional discounts in the app, those are okay. And then there's discounts in the retail therapy app, the one by the Irvine Company. But even without the app, it's good value for what you get. The combos are a lot more expensive than just chicken and tortillas, it's the sides that are pricey relative to the chicken, but we get them anyway, since they complement everything well. Prices have jumped so high. As of 7/2024, their basic classic chicken bowl which used to be $5 for a combo is now $8.49! Smaller portions of chicken and bowls are not filled which leave an inch or so gap. They have raised prices and decreased portion sizes. I wish there was a happy medium. As I'm sure, all of you have noticed, Pollo Loco has come out with a mango habanero version of their chicken and I'm here to tell you don't waste your money and your time, their gimmick is to make their chicken the regular way, and once it comes out, they slather on a mango have a Nero sauce, and keep in mind that the sauce is on the cold side getting poured on hot chicken, leaves very little to be desired. The proper way to do this would be to cook the chicken and paste it in the mango habanero sauce as it's cooking to infuse the flavors throughout the chicken. But apparently that's too much for them. I have had el pollo loco many times and this time the food was awful! I ordered a bowl and the beans had so much liquid it was like a soup but a soup was not what I wanted and with the cold salsa on it was almost inedible! The chicken has gotten smaller and smaller and my 11 year old grandson was still hungry after his 3 piece meal of breast, thigh and leg which I paid extra for! theres a guy works here whose attitude stinks. Four times I have called the store because the app refused to allow me to order for curbside pick up or they messed up my order, or both! Today, the app failed to allow curbside again! To save time I paid with the app for "pick up" and when I got there I called the store and asked them to bring it out. SAME GUY LECTURED ME THAT I HAVE TO USE THE APP AND SELECT CURBSIDE!! HE EVEN SAID HE WILL DO IT THIS TIME BUT NO MORE!! Allergen warning. My wife is Deathly allergic to dairy. So when we go somewhere she starts with that. No cheese etc. first salad has cheese all over. She takes it back thru the drive thru and it looks like they just tried to pick it off because the second salad also has cheese on it. Food is quality and top notch for the prices. The chicken is always well-cooked and the chefs behind the grill apparently work hard to make it that way. Main criticism is that the chickens they use are small. That said, this is to be expected considering it's fast food and prices are low. As for service, don't expect any sort of unreasonable wait time. Expect to wait a few minutes usually because the drive through is usually crowded. Why? Regulars know they're getting quality for low prices - pretty basic. Inside is exactly what to be expected. It's clean and suitable any time and regularly cleaned. I like El Pollo Loco because they have delicious burritos. My favorite burrito is their Queso Blanco burrito which has rice, beans,avocado, and cheese. It's really flavorful. I ask for a side of their creamy avocado dressing which makes it taste better in my personal opinion. Their unsweetened black tea is also really good. read more

Awful! The girl with the neck tattoo is absolutely rude, unprofessional and disrespectful! She was screaming and screaming at the guy in the back who was preparing the food, and talking to him so rudely! I was at the window at the drive through, so I couldn't see the actual person who was being yelled at, but she was yelling for him to hurry up, in such a rude embarrassing manner and unprofessional way, I felt uncomfortable! She gets my bag of food and with her back turn away from me and the window, just stretches her arm out to give me my food and walks away, never looks at me or acknowledges me, a customer! Well....El Pollo Loco is dead. They swapped chicken for shredded chicken (tinga) in everything. They serve hard black avocado on all their bowls. Basically the only thing ok is their platters. Grilled chicken with sides. There's like 50 places in Santa Ana that actually show how pathetic this has become. For half the price. Farewell You Crazy Chicken, time to get some El Pollo Gallo or anything else within 5 miles that blows this slowly failing chain out of the water. The best part is after looking at other reviews you can clearly tell that management stopped trying to contact customers over complaints. Although I knew I was getting a solid deal with the coupon for their family meal, that alone couldn't justify the meal. All the pieces of chicken skin were dry and skin overcooked. The sides I really liked were the Spanish rice and black beans. COVID-era: They allow walk-ins and require masks before entering the store. Went to El Pollo Loco on Alton in Irvine a couple of days ago to pick up and online order. First they couldn't find the order, but eventually it was found. Came home, opened the bad, found dressing and utensils missing, which is nothing comparing to the quality of food. The order was Shrimp Tostada Salad and it was BAD! The shrimp tasted and looked like it was prepared last week, it had the taste and texture of cheap rubber. The salad was chopped into huge chunks, as if it was prepared for an elephant. The Tostada was so undercooked that it was like a raw tortilla. The whole thing had so much salt and pepper that I stopped eating after the 3rd bite and send the whole thing into the trash can! My family used to order EPL every month, but since moving out, I haven't really put much thought into them. However, fast forward to quarantined times and there was a free delivery offer I wanted to take advantage of. Ordered the 10pc family meal with choice of two sides, tortilla (corn/flour) and unlimited options on salsa. For sides, I got mashed potato with gravy and coleslaw. My gravy wasn't closed properly so there was some spillage inside, but nothing too crazy! They also forgot the corn tortillas. The 10pc assortment was a bit disappointing since it included breast, thighs, drumsticks and the smallest wings (3). I was surprised the wings came with the order since I thought they didn't have those lol. Since I ordered through Postmates, there's no option to modify the order either so you're stuck with it. However, the sides were filled to the brim and we got all the sauces. Overall, meal was really filling for us. I had some corn tortillas in my pantry so I was able to make chicken tacos. We had two pieces left over so I guess the meal ended up being enough, but still felt a little gypped over the wings. Next time, I'll look at the options to ensure I get the pieces I desire or order something a little smaller that consists of drums and thighs. read more
