1.20.24: This evening I was craving a tostada salad and hit the drive-thru before the dinner rush. I ordered the double chicken tostada salad and it was pretty fresh and hot. The tostada shell was light and airy and not thick or hard, where sometimes it stabs your mouth or gums lol. The chicken had a good grill on it and it was still tender. The greens were crisp and visually fresh. The beans and rice were proportionate to the amount of greens given as well. Oh and hiding under the chicken and pico, there were 3 big slices of an avocado! My favorite is to get the avocado salsa as my dressing because it gives it that good kind of kick that's not overly spicy. When we first came to Reno in July of 2020 we stumbled on this Pollo Loco and had an amazing experience, so we kept eating there quite a bit. The quality was amazing and the portions were always generous, at a fantastic price. After the second year things started to change, we don't know why but the food went downhill rapidly, the prices almost doubled and the coupons disappeared. The portion sizes also shrunk! New things came on the menu but we tried sticking with what we liked it just wasn't the same. We started having bad experiences at the takeaway window with our orders, such as not including everything we ordered yet were charged. The Managers were always helpful and made sure we were refunded or given the items that were missing, however between the quality dropping so much and the price hikes we just stopped going. We haven't been back to this Pollo Loco in years but I wanted to voice my opinion and rate our experience for others, so that they may know more about it this location. During this difficult time, my family very much misses the dining out experience. We find we do not savor the same food the same way as when we were able to dine out. We purchased their $25 Family Meal. 12 pieces chicken, 3 sides, tortillas and salsa. Not exactly fine dinning but all tasted delicious, the chicken is always thoroughly cooked and healthy to boot! I love El Pollo Loco mainly for their chicken and healthy options so I was excited to try these Birria tacos which are one of my favorites. The tacos are about the same size as Jack in the box tacos-which are a little small-and they come stuffed with more cilantro and onions than meat. I was disappointed by the quality, mainly because we have so many good Mexican restaurants that serve this dish and do it so well. Also the box with the 2 small tacos, chips and salsa and a small drink comes out to about 12.00 which isn't much less than you can get this dish at a local restaurant. Always a decent place to grab a bite to eat. I've never been disappointed by this brand or disrespected by any employees here. There menu is pretty simple, and the prices reflect the cost of living which may always be a pleasant surprise to people passing thru and perhaps even incentive to one day take up residence in this ever growing city. We like to make little burritos out of our chicken and beans. If you prefer burritos, try the chicken avocado. Chicken, avocado, pinto beans, and a very tasty cabbage slaw. I asked the manager why she wasn't asked to leave because it was unsanitary. He said he thought it was a service dog. I said a service dog has a vest that says it's a service dog, but he just didn't want to deal with the bum, so I left and never went back. Went to this "El Pollo Loco" location today, and I ordered the chicken avocado quesadilla I always order and a drink. The chicken avocado quesadilla was great but when I got home and was done eating, I dumped my drink down the sink and found that there were 2 pieces of beans and something else in there that I couldn't figure out what it is INSIDE my rasberry iced tea.
