I took a door dash delivery for these guys today. The restaurant directed me (via the app) to find available parking and pick up the order in store. So yeah, the door was locked. I hit the drive through and announced myself as a courier. It was a huge order (thank you Monday night NFL) but ready and passed off to me within about 15 minutes. Their chicken is a total joke. Ordered two two piece meals for the kids (one wing/breast, one leg/thigh) in the drive through. After a 15 minute wait because they were "out of chicken" we found the most pathetic pieces of chicken Ive seen at any chicken joint. I've often had single buffalo wings that would best these measly pieces. The kids described the mashed potatos and gravy and mac and cheese as "inferior to the instant potatos they serve in public school cafeterias). On the flip side, their mexican food was acceptable (definitely not great). The chicken tostada was good and reasonably sized. Overall, anywhere is better for chicken, and there are many better places for mexican. read more

Don't waste your money here.. unless you like churros soak in oil disgusting... and the chicken does not make up for it...mmmm gotta love the flavor of little slivers of bone on the skin of the chicken.. like how does that even happen? If you do have the unfortunate experience of eating here your best bet is a salad, the macaroni, or a burrito. But you still won't feel that good about spending your hard earned money here. Tonight was my first time having el pollo loco. And I gotta say I was skeptical at first I thought it was going to be like all the other chicken places. But shocked to see that It wasn't. It was way better. You can tell everything was fresh. The chicken was tender and juicy. And the sides were yummy. I got the 4pc meal with mashed potatoes gravy and black beans. We have been coming back to the El Pollo's since they started opening them here in the valley. Now they've gone really far north (Ogden) . Was great as always, juicy, crispy chicken and fresh salsas, everything I expect from an el pollo back home in California. Obviously this is the same owners as the ones in salt lake because you see some of the managers. Great job to them as this is adds another spot for me to eat at when I'm north of salt lake. read more

I send my 16th years old daughter to get a lunch transfer $50 to her card so she can pay for it then she called me saying card has been decline of curse got declined after he run the card for third time, manager worthless explanation like it was on me because wasn't money in the card (really not money you just charge 3 times for the food )... My first time trying El Pollo Loco was amazing and phenomenal. I had the tortilla soup - delicious. And I had the chicken taco al carbon. The food here is delicious but they can't get an order right to save their lives. It is so frustrating! Twice now I've bought a $7 burrito just to get home and find it was made wrong. I just can't justify that price point knowing I won't get what I ordered. Food safety: 1 star, Customer Service: 2 stars, Food: 5 stars I go to El Pollo Loco for their incredible chicken--period. Every time we go--without fail--they make a mistake on our order. I've complained twice and been offered free food, which I never take because I don't care about paying for good food, I want them to address the quality of their staff. However, today I watched an employee reach into a container of salad with her bare hands--no gloves, no tongs. She prepared a Loco salad for a customer by reaching into a large container of salad on the prep line and fill the customers container. I let the manager know immediately and she corrected it while I was there. I watched in horror thinking she used her bare hands to prepare my salad too, so I refused to eat my salad. The manager told me that she was sure mine was made with gloves, which was a laughable guarantee--I refused it anyway and gave it back to her. She replaced my salad with a hot food item, which I can marginally feel comfortable with safety wise. Bare hand touching ready to eat food is amongst the most dangerous behaviors in a kitchen, and simply inexcusable by an establishment as well established as El Pollo Loco. Get it together El Pollo Loco! The quality of service has been poor from the day it opened, but I thought their internal food safety was better than this. I filed a complaint with the health department because food safety needs to be engrained in their staff. No bare hand touching RTE food--ever. read more

This used to be one of our favorite places to eat. The employees are always so friendly and helpful and the food good. Unfortunately, we just dropped by on Christmas Eve for our usual family dinner. We love the dressing and when leaving I asked if I could pay a bit extra to have 3 additional. (I was thinking $.50 each) The manager definitely needs some tips from his employees on customer service. He told me that if I wanted 3 more I would need to pay $5.99. Which I did. They would only give us 2 with our order and one of them wasn't even half full. (Tostada salad, 3 breasts and a large side of rice). Seems silly to me (after working in the food industry for 20 years) to treat a customer so poorly on Christmas Eve over 3 extra dressings. Giving it 3 stars as the food is pretty good!!! However very disappointed in the service. Friends of the employees in there just talking & laughing standing in front of people trying to pick up their order, very rude, the gentleman ( I believe Caucasian) that did very willingly get my order was very nice & even asked them if they was waiting for an order. Wow! What a huge disappointment. The chicken was seasoned well; however, it was so dry it could have been sold as jerky. I have seen road kill appear more appetizing than the scrawny chicken breast and wing that was served. As a matter of fact. I'm sure I could garner more meat from a crawfish than that wing. It looked more like a bent leg from a mummy. The cole slaw and salad were very tasty. I don't think I will be going back just for the side dishes. read more
