I usually get a salad bowl or a chicken bean bowl and it always seems like it's healthy ingredients that are prepared consistently. So I know what I'm getting and I can feel good about what I'm eating. However, when I go inside the restaurant, it seems a little chaotic for a fast food restaurant. The building seems old and there's often been repairs going on in the dining room. Sometimes it doesn't quite seem as clean as it ought to be. If you want to actually receive food: order online or use the drive-through. No one staffs the front counter, and workers who are fulfilling online and drive-through orders don't acknowledge you. The device at the front counter that appears to be for placing orders doesn't function, no matter how many times you tap the screen to attempt to initiate an order. I walked in with no one else in line and stood at the cashier for a few minutes without any acknowledgment. The manager and another employee were present but didn't make eye contact or say anything. After a bit, they said, "We'll be right with you," but there was still no indication of how long the wait would be. Since I was in a rush, I asked how much longer it would take. They seemed surprised that I spoke up and said "not much longer." I explained that I didn't have much time and asked to speak to the manager, who said he was the manager. I mentioned that the service hadn't been good up to that point. After that, both employees became very quiet and avoided interaction, though they did eventually take my order. This was my first time trying El Pollo Loco and I was blown away by how good it was! I got the Street Corn Double Chicken Chopped Salad and the rest of my party shared the family meal. The family meal came with deliciously flavored crispy chicken, tortilla, & sides (we got Cole slaw, corn & mashed potatoes). The sides were all so good. I especially loved the corn! The chicken on my salad was WARM which I've never experienced before at a fast food restaurant. There was so much chicken too. The staff was really warm & friendly and had super speedy service! I am one of those lucky people that is centrally located and can easily access any of the nearby EPL locations. I will make a trip out of my way to visit this one becuase they have a DRIVE THROUGH, their prices are lower than other stores (it's true-check the app!), and they never talk crap about what I order (unlike the other location who tried to taco-shame me). They always get my order correct, hook up extra salsa, and the food is fresh and consistent. Their sodas always taste a little too syrupy though. Extremely poor customer service, employee training and over all food standards. As a manager and food service worker, the levels of inadequate training and general standards is depressing. Employees lack basic comprehension skills. Will ask you to repeat yourself multiple times only to ignore what you requested. The amount of times i've been in the drive through and have asked for a specific items to be removed for health and allergy reasons, only to find that after they made me repeat myself they ignored my request and I don't find out until I've driven home. Management must be first time or not care about their job. Employees definitely do not care and that mindset starts with management. Our first visit @ El Pollo and the staff gave us a the worst first impression! Lack of customer service! While waiting at the counter, 2 female employees ignored us. They were chatting and didn't greet us. My wife asked them, " Are you ready to take our order"? Finally, they took our order. During our order, the employee asked us. "Flour or corn"? We both replied, " "what do you mean"? She didn't answer our question. She repeated, "Flour or corn"? This was our 1st time so we didn't know why she was asking us that! Now if she explained that the order comes with flour or corn tortillas! Then maybe we would answer her properly. If this is how they this chain treats their customers, this will be our last visit! The last few years, the customer service has gotten much better at this location. However, today I had a horrible experience. I went to this location to grab a late lunch just before 3 PM on Tuesday, November 19th. There was a young Latino male restaurant employee at makeshift customer service desk blocking the entrance to the lot. He told me that the restaurant was closed for the next two days. Unfortunately, his customer service skills were horrible. He was condescending and rude and laughing. This guy shouldn't be in a customer service position. I am a fan of El Pollo Loco and frequent them often while working in the area. We also often order their catering for our work, which is a break from the usual selection. I personally love the under 500 calorie menu, I order the double chicken avocado salad or my new favorite, the chicken avocado tortilla wrap, only 480 calories and won't leave you hungry. I dunno if they had just finished a lunch rush (it was sort of late in the afternoon for that, and too early for dinner rush) but we were the only people in there when we went and they did not seem to notice until we were almost done eating at the only mildly clean table, that the place was filthy and then send someone out to clean it. I seriously wonder how a place like this stays in business. Are people's standards this low? I had never been here before, but saw a long line of cars at the drive-up-window, which should be an indication of a good place to eat. I ordered a chicken avocado burrito. The tortilla was burnt. There was absolutely NO AVOCADO in the burrito -- not one bite. They supplied two TINY plastic cups of salsa, and two more of a green sauce -- which I assumed was their advertised "cilantro salad dressing." Was this supposed to substitute for avocado because it was green? The burrito contents were unremarkably bland and tasted like they had been a long time in a steam table keeping warm. But they were overcome by the flavor from brunt tortilla, which was sealed and could not be unwrapped to add the salsa or green sauce. They had unsweetened iced tea, but no sugar, only cheap sweetener. I asked for sugar, and the attendant said nothing but pointed to the sweetener. Floors were both dirty and wet, and the tables were dirty. We had to clean our own table top before we could put food on it. With "sanitization" like this, I don't think they would pass a health department inspection, and it made me seriously wonder about their kitchen. I would NEVER return to this place. This location is the worst!!! Will never spend another cent here. Came here at night because I was craving a sweet treat so I ordered 2 sets of churros. They were inedible. All of them had no sugar cinnamon on them which is so frustrating. If you are out of a product just tell the customer so they don't waste my money. 2 out of the 4 of them also were completely cold as if they were sitting out for hours ..... they were rubbery.
