Normally when we dine in other hole in the wall Mexican restaurants you can expect similar food, service, atmosphere, price, etc. Here's what separates El Ranchito from other restaurants, PRICE! Oh yeah and their salsa is horrible! When we ordered a side of the white cheese sauce it added $4.75 to the bill. Drinks are another $2.00 we asked for a little tea to put in our 1yr olds bottle just so he had something to drink after finishing what he had in his bottle and guess what? Another $2.00! I'm not totally upset about it but my wife and I had already ordered two drinks ($4.00) so it would have been cool if she just counted his tea as one of our refills. All in all the food was good and the service wasn't bad either. Also the place was fairly clean from what I could see. The downside is that it was $44.00 for my wife and I to have one entree each one FOUNTAIN drink each and split chips salsa & cheese dip... At Chili's you can get two top-shelf margarita's, two entrees, 1 appetizer & 1 dessert all for $35.00! El Ranchito is over priced and not the best Mexican around so for that I won't be back... read more

The chicken Enchiladas , sauce, and chips says it all for me. Outstanding family business! When i asked how were the tacos de pastor , he said vet good. Several minutes later i was brought one to sample. I ordered chicken enchiladas to go a d two tacos de pastor! If your looking for great Mexican food! Look no further! The absolute WORST mexican food lunch EVER! I had chili rellanos, with the frijoles and rice, guacamole/lettuce. Ordered on doordash and felt completely ripped off. First off if you are going to offer a " burrito California " you should go to California first and see it. What I got for $13.50 was a tiny little burrito with no sides that left me hungry enough that I still had to make something to eat after eating it. How many times in 13 years have we driven by this place and never gone inside since moving to Spring Hill? 100's. So I finally decided to give them a try as have been to all the others anywhere nearby. They are definitely in the top 3 for Hernando. The White front is a little disturbing as you don't know what you're walking into. They can see out but you cannot see in. Once you open the door it's very pleasant, clean and friendly. Two large families were there before us and they can accommodate big groups with their pictured long center tables. We took a booth and my wife loved the hand painted map of Mexico on the table top. The hostess waitress was quick polite and got everything right. I tried the enchiladas supremas and wife had the chicken taco salad served in the edible bowl. Both our meals were very good. Only glitch the coffee maker was broken so wife was disappointed in that only. The Mexican food is what I consider traditional and well prepared, served hot and fresh with plenty of sauce. The premeal salsa/chips are very good and right at the limit of spicy that I can deal with. Nice texture. The food came quickly. I would have liked a bit more since this was my only meal of the day so consider this more of a late lunch quantity and casual place for me. Wife's salad was a perfect size for her. No doggie bags required here. I probably should have ordered a side taco or dessert. Ultimately it is enough. We won't hesitate to go again. Looked to me when we left about 7:30pm the regulars were starting to come in numbers. With a generous well deserved tip $26 is reasonable. No more trips to Brooksville that's for sure. read more

My friend and I decided we wanted mexican food but wanted to try an new place. I had noticed this place on multiple occasions so we decided to give it a try. So glad we did. We found El Ranchito by accident. We were running errands one day and came upon this restaurant. Unfortunately they were closed. We vowed to come back when they were open and glad we did! My Fiancé ordered the beef enchiladas and I ordered the chicken chimichanga. We were pretty impressed with the service...(thank you Gianni)!! My daughter, and I went here for a late lunch. They normally close from 2pm till 4pm I believe. We arrived at almost 2pm. I asked if we could still get lunch, and they said yes. We had the place to ourselves immediately we received the Salsa, and Chips, then my daughter asked for Queso. She said it was the best she ever had. We had a short wait then our meals arrived. Everything was pretty good. It could have used a little more seasoning, and a little more cheese. Regardless, I enjoyed it. The person waiting on us told us it is owned by the same people who own the Mexican restaurant on Trouble Creek in New Port Richey, I thought that place had horrible food. My wife and I go to this restaurant fairly often. I freely admit that my reviews for a restaurant are often influenced by price but the food here is really quite good and the price is excellent. We ordered here because the reviews were good. Sadly our experience didn't match. We ordered through Door Dash. I, personally, ordered the Fajitas and got meat, peppers, and onions. However the other toppings, tomatoes, sour cream, guac, I got maybe a tablespoon's worth. I wouldn't of rated so low except when we called we were told that we should've known better and that Door Dash messes up a lot. Side note, the toppings were called "garnishes" and you have to actually ask for more. Rude service always results in low scores in my opinion. This was our first and last order. read more

Authentic and not overdone. Many of the Mexican style restaurants are trying to add BBQ sauce to their sauces and calling them ranchero or tex-mex. El Ranchito uses authentic Mexican recipes and does not try to commercialize the amount of heat or "ranch" flavor. Service is great. Prices are great as well. Compared to the other local Mexican, this is the best around. We've tried them all. The food is excellent. You won't find any of the Mexican restaurants that serve liquor, which is a true downfall for all of them in the Spring Hill-Brooksville area. Driving to Tampa is out of the question. NEW OWNERS!!! We haven't eaten there for 14 yr or more and we sat in the rain trying to decide if we were going to try it again. It is located on Spring Hill Drive next to where the post office used to be near Cass Circle. It has that scary old Spring Hill aura from outside. We did choose to try and both Herb and I had the best Mexican dinner we have had in the area in the time we have lived here which is almost 20 years. I lived in CA 20 yrs and Herb lived in Texas so we have expectations when it comes to Mexican food. The new owners nice young family people. The sauces were delicious and the chips and salsa, which I usually find too hot to eat, had some heat but not so much I couldn't enjoy. We ate every bite and are looking forward to returning. Met a girlfriend there today for lunch - couldn't figure out WHO was our waiter/waitress - 4 employees visible out front and EVERY one of them either brought us part of our meal, offered to refill my friends drink (I never received offer)- QUICK with check part - I found my chicken fajitas to be VERY BLAND for Mexican food. I think $28 for two ladies lunches to be pricey (She had a chimichunga or something like that) & two soda's. RECOMMENDATION to DINERS: Read later that they charged for chips & salsa's - didn't realize that as we never ordered them; but those were placed on table and we were never told ~ SO ASK before they placed them down and DECLINE if you are going to be charged for 10 chips. I would not go back - hard to figure out how to tip, when 4 people (as they walked from the back to the front each would drop something on table at various stages or snag your cash next to your leg and WE had NO idea their names, as they did NOT introduce themselves (if they wore tags, they moved too fast to notice) SO who was OUR server? - I would state below average service except when we were half way thru the meal and the guy who sat us down quick ran over to put the bill on the table, and when I had it on the booth seat with money next to my leg - he IMMEDIATELY ran over to grab off the SEAT (not on the table-as a normal indication that you ARE READY to pay) - overall strange feeling that we were RUSHED to get out - then sat outside for 2 hrs so that we could visit. I would NOT drive 7 miles back there to have any meal and will continue to try other restaurants in Spring Hill. Certainly would drive past this place when hungry -basically EVEN if on my way home from somewhere I would NOT stop and get something to eat. I have had better fajitas at Chain Restaurants for far less money and 90% of the time when I eat out; I have leftover for at least one more meal - I barely had enough to give to my dachshund.
