Worst Mexican food I've had in a long time, I ordered the pick 2 with a pork tamale and ground beef taco. It came with a salad and soup, the dressing on the salad was discussing it tasted like pure mayo (and I love mayo), I mean there was no option for ranch or something else. The soup was actually really good. The chips and salsa that was brought out was hard as a rock and super thick it felt like you're going to chip a tooth eating it. The tamale was so so, but there was way too much masa. The ground beef taco looked under cook and tasted like they mixed the beef with beans to bulk it up. I ended sending the whole thing back because the raw ground beef made me lose my appetite. It's just not good food, I was really disappointed. read more

Ranchito is a good place to come with friends for some good food and some great margaritas. The place has been there for a million years and has gone through some renovations. Service has always been good. The salsa is very fresh and tastey. A local favorite for sure. All of the food on the menu is at least decent and many things are very good. First time we went had a good experience we really enjoyed the carrot soup. Second time we went service was just off we had a male server and was too dull I asked question and was very short with answers and the food was not great I had fajitas and they were like rubber and the flavor was just not good at all. If I could leave 0 stars I would. We took our son and daughter-in-law there tonight with 3 grandbabies. We told them how good it was. We did our order. My son asked for no sauce on his enchiladas, came with sauce. The worst part about our experience was my grandson ordered 4 grilled shrimp and French fries. Couldn't believe it when they charge us $19.99 for 4 shrimp and fries!! Really?? You could buy at least 2 pounds of shrimp for that price! The service is horrible. My wife and I went in for lunch and they didn't even give us menus. My wife had to go grab them from the front desk after 10 minutes of waiting for a server to even acknowledge us. The chips in the basket they give you were stale, as well as the taco shell on my plate. Mine and my wife's chile relleno tasted like fish, there was hardly any cheese in the chile and the chile itself was tiny. It didn't even have sauce on it. I asked for a straw several times before receiving one, when she came with one it wasn't wrapped with paper and she shoved it so rudely inside my water cup. The margaritas were also very small and gross. The server took my plate before asking if I was done, which I wasn't. But before I had a chance to say anything she threw trash on my plate. when I was little I always thought there were two mexican restaurants in Riverbank that people really liked 1) El Ranchito and 2) The Bridge. It gets the second name from its location nestled between train tracks and a highway 108 overpass in Riverbank. Friday nights and weekends see this place packed especially the small bar area they have. I really enjoy the way they prepare their chicken, it is always full of flavor and moist unlike some other mexican restaurants around whose chicken is usually drier. My favorite thing to get here is the appetizer Rancheritas plate and split it with Matt. They are similar to a tostada except no lettuce. They have cheese, beans, chicken, tomatoes, guac, and peppers and they can be spicy but soooo good. It is always enough food especially once we have pigged out on the chips (mix of flour and corn) and amazing salsa. I love it when they just leave us our own little pitcher of salsa because that way when they are busy we aren't getting desperate for more! read more

Took my newly high school graduate granddaughter here to spend a nice afternoon with her on Sun. afternoon. She and I both love Mexican food. The 1st clue on food quality is how crowded the restaurant is...it was empty other than maybe one or two other tables. The waiter was very friendly and attentive, but since the place was so empty, he had time on his hands. The food was VERY greasy to my taste. I took 3/4 home and let my husband eat the rest since he doesn't mind greasy food.. The flour chips and salsa were good. The guacamole was just mashed avocados...no chopped tomatoes, no onions, no flavor, nothing but mashed avocado. Prices are very reasonable, but I'd much rather pay more for good food.
