Ok, I came here with my son to strictly order menudo and that's it! We are on a quest for the best menudo spots in the IE, that's how we found this place. I'll get into the food first and everything else after. We only tried the menudo, but this is by far one of the best places for menudo you will find. It is a little pricey in my opinion. But it also it very good and makes you forget the price. Not that it necessarily needs lemon or limes but I wish they would offer it. Now as far as ambiance goes: very hole in the wall vibe to it. Doesn't seem inviting, tables are wobbly, doesn't look clean. Needs to be remodeled. The look just isn't there. Service: it's fast food service. You order at the counter, serve your own drink. They don't bring the food to the table. No service other than taking your order. For me, this is a fast food restaurant. Table service would be great but the place is tiny. The staff was super rude. We arrived at the restraint at 8:30 pm. The website says they close at 10, but the window sign says 9. As a courtesy I waved at the cook from outside the doors with a thumbs up or thumbs down to signal if it was still open. He waved back with a come in signal and a thumbs up. The place is a hole in the wall but great food. The place ONLY TAKES CASH which is a huge downer. If you don't have cash there is an ATM machine that charges you a fee. I just want to say I love most of the taco shops but this one I was not impressed. I ordered the menudo and I was very dissatisfied with it, one it was to oily and the juice/soup was too thick. The meat tripe cuts we're the worst of the tripe meat, which in my opinion are the cheapest you can but at the meat market. There are better cuts. 2nd it was way over priced for a small container of it. And then I ordered tacos shredded beef. But one non-negotiable is the food. When the food disappoints, it sucks the charm out of all those endearing things listed above, and returns them to the annoying and possibly dangerous liabilities they are. I visited El Ranchito today for a quick carne asada burrito. After enjoying three days of carne asada burritos in San Diego, I really wasn't expecting perfection. My expectations were realized... The second I open my car door to walk into the restaurant, I was accosted by a long-haired scarecrow-like tweaker, wearing Beats headphones and smoking a cigarette, while telling me that he didn't have any money to catch the bus, so could I spare a few bucks. I just smiled and shook my head, and he was off to the next car... in the general direction of "not the bus stop". Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed two big handwritten-with-a-big-Crayola signs that read CASH ONLY. Fine, I thought. The counter is sort of off-center and adjacent to some seating so it's not really clear where you queue to order. Not that it really mattered, because the two gals behind the counter seemed much more interested in their conversation than attending to the fact that I just walked in looking hungry. A break in the conversation forced her to look up and take my order. I asked for a carne asada burrito... $6.99 on the menu, which is about a buck and a half steeper than its San Diego brethren. The cashier stated that they add rice and beans to their burritos. As far as I'm concerned, adding rice and beans to a carne asada burrito makes it... Not a carne asada burrito anymore. It's now a rice and beans burrito with a little bit of meat in it. I declined the rice and beans, and asked for an all meat burrito. I even states that I would be willing to pay extra, but I didn't want any rice and beans. Simply put in some meat, guacamole, and pico de gallo. With the addition of a drink, my final order total came out to $9.87.... I should have put my wallet back in my pocket, smiled and shook my head again, and escaped with my dignity. But no, I handed over a Hamilton, and posted up against a booth, waiting for them to call my number. To pass the time, I visited their salsa bar. Plenty of small plastic lids, but no plastic cups. I returned to the counter and asked them to put out some more cups for the salsas. The lady handed me two small plastic receptacles and encouraged me to help myself. I happen to like a lot of salsa on my burritos, and with a $10 price tag, I definitely wanted to sample their fare with more than two small plastic cups. After a reasonable wait time, they called me over to pick up my burrito. I immediately noticed the lack of weight when I picked up the bag. I pulled the burrito out of the bag, and noticed how ridiculously small it was. The cook apparently just put the regular small amount of carne asada meat into a tortilla slapped on a little bit of guacamole, and wrapped it up. It was seriously the size of a taquito! Despite my polite but frustrated complaint, I was told "das jus how we doit." I looked out across the parking lot at the tweaker panhandler, the cardboard sign guy by the stoplight, the dude with a grip of jailhouse head tats sitting at a booth, the shoeless three year old running amok while mom (allegedly) went outside for a smoke.... and realized: this place sucks, but no one here cares. Plus, complaining doesn't help, because they've heard it all from the locals. If there's any silver lining, the taquito burrito tasted good... But the portion size, the lackluster service, and the cheapie salsa cup approach will insure I NEVER NEED TO EAT HERE AGAIN. read more

Never been here before. Rude employees. Ordered a bean and cheese burrito with easy beans for my son. Got the food, cut the burrito in half for my son. He refused to eat it because it had next to no cheese in it. Mind you when I ordered it, I explained my son wanted a cheese burrito so I ordered it with easy beans and told him they don't sell cheese burritos. I offered him a quesadilla and he wanted the bean and cheese burrito instead. Anyway, he refused to eat it, not one bite was taken out of it. I asked the employee why it had so little cheese, she said that's how it comes. Ok, but she didn't say that when I placed my order with her. I told her I wanted a refund because it was not what we ordered, she gave me attitude and tried to refuse me my money back. I told her and the other rude employee they couldn't refuse to give me back my money because not even one bite was taken out of it and it wasn't what we ordered. They gave me $4.24 back eventually but my order was $4.25 plus .08% tax, so to be a bitch I demanded every penny back because they wanted to be rude. About everything. I explained if it weren't for customers, she wouldn't even have a job and she couldn't care less what I had to say before I placed my order or after I asked for a refund. After I finally got all my money back while I was still trying to eat my food, the new employees came in for a shift change, all the employees decided to talk crap about me in Spanish and stare me down.
