We wanted to try this Mexican restaurant because it has a new name (Sonora Grill) with an exciting & upgraded menu. Our server said it's the same owner but the menu includes a lot more seafood & steak options. The ambiance is nicer than the other restaurants & the bar is a great place to hang out with a refreshing margarita. I ordered a Burrito Norteno while hubby got the Chimichanga Fajita Steak with the cheese sauce on the side. We munched on fresh tortilla chips & tasty salsa while waiting on our food. The food arrived within 10-12 minutes & was piping hot. I sampled hubby's food & it was good. He liked it too & cleaned his plate. I loved my burrito but had one complaint. Two pieces of steak in the burrito were quite chewy. The majority of my burrito was really good with tender steak. Other than that - no complaints. The service was excellent. En route to a High School career prep awards ceremony hours from home, we stopped to eat here. This is located in what appears to be a very new strip mall. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted & promptly seated. The dining areas here are extremely spacious with multiple rooms and sections, would be great for large gatherings! We browsed the menu while awaiting our drinks, chips, & salsa. Oh the salsa! So delish! Chunky and tasted homemade and fresh! Chips were also thick and not overly salted. My hubby is on a low to no carb stint, while I am... not! I'm in the life's too short camp! He ordered the steak fajita platter minus the tortillas & he didn't eat the rice. I chose a pick 2 plate but could've easily gone a la cart and only gotten the taco or the tostada. Both were good, loved the mild but flavorful rice side. El Rancho Nuevo has several locations in the Cincinnati area. They're almost all the same. This one is in West Chester. It's in the Union Centre strip mall. The food is good and so are prices. I had a margarita with chips and guacamole. Margaritas are about $5 for a 16 ounce. This is pretty good considering the alcohol content and taste. It's very good when it's frozen. The frozen margarita is thick. It took a long time sipping it until it was gone. The guacamole is about $3 for a side. It comes in a big portion for just a side of it. This was plenty enough to finish all the chips, so there was a lot. Good food. Good prices. You aren't getting ripped off there. read more

So I ended up here because the Filipino place next door (which I think is the only Filipino restaurant in the whole Cinci metro area) was closed on a Tuesday of all days. El Rancho Nuevo and El Rancho Grande are my go to spots for Mexican food in the city. I've been going to these restaurants for years ever since I fell in love with their salsa. Today I went with my siblings, I was really craving a Molcajete. Recently, I went to La Cazuela and was introduced to a Molcajete so when I found out El Rancho Nuevo also served this I had to try it! The meal comes with steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo in a "Molcajete" with peppers and salsa. I asked for it served in whole pieces of meat but unfortunately it came chopped. Pros: The taste was pretty good! It came out quick and everything that was on the menu was included. The service was excellent they came by multiple times to double check on our orders. Cons: For the price I expected a lot more quantity to be included in the meal. La Cazuela's was MASSIVE I couldn't finish the meal! And the meal stayed sizzling for 20 plus minutes! All in all it was a great experience but I think I'll stick to the fajitas when I come! My sister ordered their La Pocinta which is shrimp chicken and veggies and she really enjoyed it. read more

They use to have Elote on the menu, apparently that's not a thing anymore, Our orders were simple. 2 margheritas 2 entrees The margherita gave me diarrhea from all the Sweetener they added, the worst I've had since Applebee's. The entres, or really food I wouldn't even feed to my dog, was COLD in the middle like it was microwaved and served at full price. This is a great spot for to go to for a casual meal to cure that Mexican food craving. We typically go to the location on Union Center. From an overall experience, I've tried both Dine in and take out, both did not disappoint. They do a great job checking every order before it goes out. For take out, they check every item on the receipt against what's in the bag in front of you. The ambiance in the restaurant is warm and has a very "social" vibe to it. Visited El Rancho Nuevo on Cinco De Mayo and enjoyed some of the specials that were offered. When I first walked in, I saw they were offering $5 Margarita, so the tabled ordered a round. I was mostly out for a social gathering and wasn't too hungry, so I ordered an appetizer as an entree. Most of the employees seemed ethnic, and the kitchen served entrees pretty quick. The gentleman delivering the food to the table really took the expediting role to a new level. Patio seating is available, but a note of caution. There are some inconsiderate people in the area that like to blast music in the car in the most obnoxious manner possible. How obnoxious, picture a DoorDash driver that parks without turning the car off, playing some circa 2000 hiphop on 100, going inside waiting for food, all while music still playing. The service was surprisingly quick even though it was a busy evening, the server was extremely nice, polite and attentive, outstanding service honestly. Kuddos for him. Moreover, the food was not a disappointment. Mum had grill tilapia and it was tasty, it was actually on point. I had camaron al chile del arbol, best spicy camarones I've had in a Mexican restaurant. I usually go with camarones a la Diabla, but this is a must try! & we also shared a strawberry daiquiri, which I give it a 5 star. Ok. I'll try and review without sounding like a bigot. I walked in and saw that 80% of the diners were Mexican. I also saw a wonderfully festive, colorful, Mexican and classy decor. There was at least 60 people here on a Saturday mid afternoon and all the staff is Mexican. So, I was stoked I was going to get a good lunch to go. In fact, I got a GREAT lunch to go... The restaurant was clean, and our server was prompt and helpful. The menu did not have a ton of vegetarian options, but I was able to vegan-ize their vegetarian selections easily, just by asking for no cheese or sour cream. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas. They were delicious! My parents were very pleased with their meat-filled meals as well. And we discovered they do NOT use MSG (mono sodium glutamate), as this is a migraine trigger for a few of us. It's national margarita day and I needed some place close to celebrate. I walked in and was nicely greeted and showed to our seat. Our waiter greeted us, placed freshly fried chips and salsa on our table, and placed our drink orders. The margaritas come in 3 different sizes; small, medium, and large. I ordered a small regular margarita for me and a mango margarita for my mom. We ordered the the $1.49 taco special and a side of cheese dip and chips. I ordered a soft shredded chicken taco and two shredded beef tacos. The tacos were good, I appreciated the fact that we could mix the meats in the tacos. They were good but I think I was in the mood for a ground beef taco. The juices from the shredded meat made the tacos soggy. I really don't understand the story between El Rancho Grande and El Rancho Nuevo. Some of them used to be Grande now they are Nuevo. Not sure what's going on there. But, I believe it is still a local chain. So we did visit this newer location, and it was pretty decent. Definitely not as much flair and pizzazz as the other one in Liberty Township, but the food was still good. I had the fajitas. Fajitas is not something I typically order, but you usually can't go wrong with the fajitas. Honestly, not really impressed. The first thing I noticed, and believe me I really didn't mind, is that when they brought the fajitas to the table, it didn't have the big Sizzle and Steam Fanfare. Again, I didn't miss it because I don't need that. But it was definitely a sign of a meal to come. I noticed right off the bat when I was eating them, not a lot of seasoning. And it wasn't impressive looking at all. No tomatoes only a few onions maybe a green pepper or two. Most of it were very small bits of grilled steak. Don't get me wrong, the steak was decent but it just wasn't your usual fajitas presentation. The guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, pico de gallo that came with it we're all good. I opted for the corn tortillas. It was good but unimpressive. Would I go back? Yes, I believe I would. I rarely get the fajitas. I was in the mood for something other than what I usually get so that's what I went for. They are usually a safe bet at a Mexican place. Unfortunately, this particular night, they just didn't do it for me. I wouldn't hold it against this place just because I had a bad one off. There were for adults at our table and everybody else seemed happy with their meals. My family and I have been coming here for the last year because on friday nights they have an awesome guy who makes balloon animals, that was the only good thing about tonight's dinner. When we got to the restaurant the hostess stood at the podium with her back to the wall looking at the seating chart for about 5 minutes not acknowledging we were there (no big deal) we request a booth and then she just walks away... doesn't say anything. Confused we go to follow and then she comes back through the lobby and finally says follow me. So we sit down, a food runner immediately tries to delivery another tables food to us and then our chips and salsa were dropped off by another runner. At this point we have been sitting at the table for 10 minutes and no servers have even said hello... At the 20 minute mark we were still severless and accordingly drinkless... THE ONLY GOOD PART OF THIS "MEAL" WAS THAT WHILE WAITING FOR THE SERVER TO TAKE A DRINK ORDER OR ANYTHING WAS THAT THE AWESOME BALLOON ANIMAL GUY CAME AND MADE A RAD ROBOT BALLON ANIMAL FOR MY SON. After asking three different people to send a server to our table they finally get a drink order and a few minutes later our food order (three simple meals, no changes from the menu). We sit, talk about the day, and we wait, followed by more waiting; 45 minutes for our food to be brought out... it's busy, it's Friday, I get it... But, then when we asked where our food was they had to retake our order. Ok so the big moment, our order was brought to the table and the food was cold. Frustrated and disappointed I ask that they remake it. At this point we just wanted to eat and be done. Nope! When the food was remade and brought back out to the table not only was it once again cold, it was also made wrong. I don't understand how they could fail at literally every endeavor tonight. We originally wanted to go to Tandoors next door for lunch. Unfortunately, Tandoors decided to change its hours of business and keep its old hours posted everywhere. They further lack the common courtesy to come out to tell customers standing out front their new hours. Instead of waiting, with a toddler in tow, we went next door to El Rancho Nuevo. ERN is your typical Tex Mex fair. Fresh salsa, crispy tortilla chips, sizzling fajitas, and more. We have visited their Union Center location on numerous occasions, but never with our toddler. So this is a bit of an adventure for us since our toddler had never had Tex Mex before. To our surprise, our toddler loved their refried beans and chicken quesadilla. Even their salsa was accepted by our toddler. As for us, we had their tilapia fajita and chicken enchiladas lunch specials. Everything was fresh, flavorful and not salt bombs like many other restaurants. The service was fast and friendly. Our total ticket, including a 20+% gratuity was a very reasonable $27. The kids quesadilla meal had enough leftover for dinner for the toddler. So yeah, I'd say we'd come here again for sure. read more

I can't hate on El Rancho Grande!! It is certainly Americanized Mexican food, but hey we are in America ya'll! It's a great neighborhood staple with pretty darn good food. The Pancho's Special is tender pork with a tasty, mild red sauce. I'd say they have a pretty decent vegetarian menu, but they use a lot of grease which takes away from the healthier side of things. Their chili verde sauce (warm) is a very nice alternative to their standard salsa, which is also very good. The Tacos al Carbon is quite tasty too and is served with a flavorful and somewhat spicy tomatillo sauce. I find myself ordering the Cheese Steak Burrito (except with chicken instead) more often than anything else. Love those little grilled onions inside. MMMmmm! The pricing is average and so is the service. Some servers are great and some just aren't. Hasta luego mi amigos! read more

They're in the Entertainment Book, Kroger receipt and the coupon books that come in the mail. I've eaten here several times but always forget to submit a review. You start with complimentary chips and salsa. The menu is standard Mexican fare. The servers are quick and attentive. Food is good, but I've had better. Overall, it's quick and easy. I've eaten at El Rancho Grande quite a few times. I've been to this location and the new one in Liberty Township. I think the food is decently good and I'm happy that they have a nice vegetarian menu (although it seems to have shrunk?). The chips are decent. The salsa is a little spicy, which I like. I usually get a potato burrito, which comes with a red sauce on top. The red sauce is fresh and chunky and this is always my favorite thing. I have also tried a mushroom quesadilla, which was kind of bland. It seemed like it was just jarred mushrooms with cheese melted on top. However, in the land of big chains and minimal vegetarian options, I can't hate this place too much. read more

Worst dining experience of all time. I am writing this review based on my single experience maybe a year or two ago, because a good friend recently had a similar experience. Service: Extermly slow service! Extremely! After appetizers we were asked to move from our table to the bar bc the server wanted to go home even tho it was not near closing. A Waitress verbally attacked me after hearing a comment I made about sanitation. I felt physically threatened, despite my attempt to diffuse the situation. It was unbelievable. Jerry springer could have used the staff for an entire season of his shows. Then after I was screamed at by an employ, my date and I were asked to leave with out finishing our drinks. I asked to speak to the manager, and eventually for a number to call for his manager. That was a waste if time. Food: all came out wrong. Never got water refills. Sanitation: well another waitress was taking breaks to throw up in the public bathroom. Continued to serve... I actually witnessed her wipe her mouth in the kitchen after the binge. YUCK! My friend and I typically meet here for margaritas because of its great location AND because of the stellar service!!! The quality of the food is not to my taste, because it seems to appeal to a mass/generic "American" palette.
