I returned back to puerto Lima today and tried something new. I got the lomo saltado and it exceeded my expectations. The portion size was impressive, I have a big take home container to eat for dinner tonight. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sweet onions were awesome to pair with bites of steak and fries. The stir fried portion was seasoned to absolute perfection and the rice soaked up the juices from the stir fry which made it so good. The service here is lovely, the owner consistently shows his face and checks in on customers. A lovely spot well worth a visit. read more

Wow! the food is EXCELLENT!!! talk about having flashbacks to my youth, when I would get Da BEST Cubano sandwiches in my old neighborhood. Done. To. Perfection. Con pernil with wonderful Boricua-Cubano-Quisqueya flavor, and the bread - classic french bread; crusty on the outside, warm fresh, airy and a little fluffy on the inside, with a touch of Mojito Criollo (of course!) on the outside as the sandwich is pressed for the final step. Delicious, al Dente, crunch and explosion of Sabor Antillano in every bite. Perfecto! BTW, I had ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy, also just perfect, what a delicious remoulade (which with the perfect bread, is what truly makes a Po' Boy stand out) - a perfect lunch. But I took a bite (alright, three bites) from the Cubano my wife-unit ordered, so I know what I'm talkin' about. I told the owner that, "... that was the best Cubano sandwich I've tasted in the last 15 years...". He and his wife (who is the magic in the kitchen putting together the delicious meals) are lovely people, true Foodies and easy to talk with. Came here as it is close to my family's home. I was surprised at how good and how much food it was. Food was tasty, wish there was a bit more steak portion, but the quantity wasn't bad. They serve a bunch of rice with it. Very filling and easily 2 meals. Thanks! read more

There was plenty of parking and easy to find with banners by the road that said empanadas and etc. Plenty of food, drink, and dessert options to choose from. Inside, there was actually a decent amount of seating space available if you wanted to sit and eat. The space was previously a Subway, but I think they should have made a few adjustments to make the space work a little better for them. The owners were super friendly and made sure that any questions were answered. The food and drinks were delicious. We were excited for the soda options they had. Super tasty food. The chicken chaufa was like an asian fried rice with maduros. The lomo saltado plate was so flavorful. We wish it had enough sauce to cover the rice and the fries. This little gem is a "YOU MUST GO!!! We stopped in tonight and had the most wonderful experience. We ordered the Lomo Saltado, Steak Chaufa, and a Shrimp Empanada. Miguel (the owner with his wife) was so knowledgeable in Puerto Rican/Peruvian cuisine. His wife is from Peru and she killed it with the authentic spices!!! Service was excellent. The server (lady) and her husband own the restaurant. She was very helpful in explaining what the sauces consisted of. I ordered a Cuban sandwich for myself and a chicken salad for my wife. The amount of food was very generous. The Cuban was not the same quality of those in South Florida. Puerta Lima is a great new eatery in Gales Ferry and the owners have revived this location of the old Subway restaurant by creating a business miles above in comparison. This is your place. The have tons of freshly prepared ingredients to build your own bowl whether or not you choose to make it healthy is up to you. Try, try, try the Chicha Morada! It's a popular dried purple corn Peruvian beverage with a lovely, not-super sweet flavor, like a fruity mixture of mulled apple cider and a grape freeze pop. I highly recommend the experience. The empanadas are amazing, available in beef, chicken, shrimp, and pizza. The beef ones have green olives in them which seems Puerto Rican style to me. I recommend the bowls which can be made vegan/plant-based or for those meat lovers, top it with whatever protein you're looking for. Bring a friend and order two pressed sandwiches and then swap halves so you each get to experience something new. The desserts looked amazing and fir the holidays they have hit chocolate bombs. They offered us samples and explained some of the local dishes to us. They were very proud of their food, as they should be - it was great! The service was friendly/attentive. I ordered the lomo saltado, shrimp empanadilla and salad. However, the steak/beef had a strange un-inspected smell/flavor, the rice was hard not fresh. The shrimp of the empanadilla had too much achote/color and was dry. The salad dressing had excessive lemon flavor. A small suggestion, The location needs an Extractor fan to remove cooking smells. Also if a person is eating at the restaurant please serve the food in porcelain dinner plates, cups, utensils, do not use plastic containers. This new spot replaced a sad Subway and it could not have been a better improvement. The owners are a Peruvian wife and Puerto Rican husband and they are so excited to bring their fusion food to SE CT. My husband were on our way to another favorite establishment for a quick meal when we say this and turned around to give it a shot. We split a Bahn mi and some cheese and chicken empanadas. Both were made fresh and while we waited the owner gave us and another couple buying food some samples of their purple corn drink and hibiscus lemonade. Both were unique and delicious. Picked up a tripleta sandwich, a dinner plate with pork, rice, beans and plantains. As well as one of their baked goods. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, they clearly know what they're doing. The portions were generous. I was very hungry but my sandwich was so filling that I had to save half for later. Staff was friendly and the pick up order took less than 10 minutes for them to prepare.
