Huevos rancheros up front and a steak omelet in the back

Pulling up to this restaurant looks a little scary. It doesn't look like it's going to be good food or a good place. However, the staff is super friendly and efficient. The place is clean. And the food is super yummy. If you're in the neighborhood, it's definitely a place to go for a solid breakfast.

Eggs florentine, eggs benedict with bacon, biscuit.

This is a great local breakfast spot. Great combination of mexican and american diner. The eggs florentine was surprisingly excellent. If you like an easy, no fuss, no pretense try this. Can recommend the biscuit as well. Was happy to be able to get a half portion to try it. One quibble.... Had to ask for menu/service. Customers who came in after us were served first.

    Mini Classic breakfast.

Great locals diner! Parking is tight, but we were there early.(7:30am) Prices are super reasonable in this post pandemic world. They have linguica on the menu too.I ordered a mini classic breakfast, which I would normally make at home. Cleaned my plate!

    Huevos rancheros with ham

10/10 recommend this place! We found this place after going to the casino and so glad we did. Everything we got was amazing. The Huevos rancheros were delicious and so filling! Service was great, very fast and attentive. Will be coming back here.

Huarache with chorizo. No rice and beans come with it, but it is SO GOOD and a very generous portion like everything else they have here!
    Laura M.

One of my favorite restaurants ever. They have consistently delicious food and the staff are all so sweet. Top recommendations are the huevos rancheros, flautas, huarache, tostadas, patty melt, the list goes on and on! Everything here is fantastic. Great breakfast/lunch option near Mohegan and just a short drive from Foxwoods. I wish I lived closer or else I would be here a couple times a week.

It's actually one of the more expensive restaurants on the Mohegan Sun property. The others are high value, this place takes the cash but the portions oof. I'm sure they will blame tariffs, Iran, Ukraine, Palestine or some political issue for it but the fact is the markup is extreme especially even more so for a dive theme restaurant. Example lobster at fish market is $6-10 per lb in the region, in the summer the price is lower. Yet lobster here starts at nearly $80 and up. That's a lot higher than the standard markup. Got the Fisherman's platter portion size not impressed for the price. Taste completely unseasoned, already a horrible start. The shrimp were way overcooked. The Fish bland, and tough, overcooked as well. The scallops good natural flavor, unseasoned and also overcooked. Truly sad cause if prepared right while a bit overpriced probably the closest thing to a fair price it would have been a home run. Can confirm seasoning does actually improve taste if only the cook/chef knew that. Food is still overcooked but salt and pepper does help it go down. The waitress was great that is a plus and the beer was solid. Overall the casino has better options, looked like a cool place had a line waiting for open but disappointing the food was overcooked and bland. Always willing to give another chance but first impression wasn't good at all. Staff is amazing so that's a plus.

The space is very bright, some LED string lights and flowers make the ceiling pleasant to look at. Lots of seating across a couple of dining rooms now. The service is off a little bit. Old location was small so they didn't really have anyone that was a waitress, just the bartender was the whole front of the house. The waitress was slow, and treated me like a white dude who had never eaten Mexican before, despite our conversation. I don't know, I don't like being assumed to be ignorant? The ceviche tostadas are what I most associate with El Traviezo, I dream of them, and they do not disappoint. A pile of shrimp, some lime, salsa fresca, crema, on a tostada. Simple, brilliant. The chimichanga also lacked. Some crispy, but then slathered in sour cream to make it soggy. This time I got al pastor, and there were some firm bites of pineapple, but otherwise everything inside was neutral. A lot of cheddar cheese that had no flavor drowned out anything else. In the past I've gotten carnitas inside and will have to return to that to see if the quality of the food has gone down or just that I'm not a fan of their al pastor. Overall, I still love El Traviezo and recommend them, but this was not a five star visit.

I ended up eating almost all of the chips. Not because they were good, but because it took forever for my lunch to come out. When it finally arrived, the quesadilla was barely grilled. I probably won't return.

Three of us shared three appetizers, two entrees, and two sides. The meal was good, but not as amazing as the last few times we were here. Crab Cake (8/10) - This was the highlight of every meal I had here before and I still enjoyed it. However, the crispy crust was missing today, which made eating the crab cake more like a crab salad. Also, some more acidity would have gone a long way. Nueske's Double Smoked Bacon (7.5/10) - Quality of the meat is clearly there, but I wish it was a bit more tender rather than so firm. The maple glaze does also get a bit sweet. Caesar Salad (6.5/10) - It's not a bad version, but I forgot to add the white anchovy, which was necessary to take it to the next level. Bone-In Ribeye (7.5/10) - When I cut it open, the color was perfectly hot pink from edge to edge. Sadly, it did feel a bit tough for something that looked so well made. Furthermore, I remember the steaks here having a crispier crust, which is crucial for a top notch restaurant quality steak in my mind. Chilean Sea Bass (4/10) - Not that it was horrible, but it's hard to screw up this fish. I can honestly make this dish better at home, which I do quite often. Not explained on the menu, but this fish was likely steamed or sous vide. The skin was not crisped up in any way, and then paired with a boring sauce. This was definitely a disappointment for $56. Roasted Mushrooms (8.5/10) - On the other hand, this may be the best side of mushrooms I have had in any steak house. Served whole and seasoned nicely. Mac & Cheese (7/10) - Pretty solid, but I need firmer pasta and a better cheese pull. The crispy breading on top (ritz crackers?) was done well. Complimentary Bread (8.5/10) - These little suckers were really good. I had three of them with their whipped butter, which I wish was bit more salted. Regardless, one of the best things of the night. All in all, this meal was satisfying as usual. The only differences were minor, but noticeable. Service was a little off today as well, but friendly. I hope they fix these small issues and return to being my favorite restaurant at Mohegan Sun again.

There was a couple seated at the bar, and I could see this as a great spot to socialize or for a date night. I ordered the roasted pork noodle soup, crab Rangoon and Singapore mei fun for my daughter. I wasn't sure what to expect for the soup, as I've been on a a bit of a pho kick lately. While I was waiting I struck up a conversation with the owner, Ken, and we ended up having a great chat; he is very dedicated to the craft. It was clear that he has great culinary knowledge, and pays close attention to the quality of the dishes on his menu. I noticed on a specials board that they offered Vietnamese iced coffee, which I will be back to try! When I got our food home, I noted the elegant to-go presentation; the cloth bag, made our meal feel like a gift, and the carefully packaged soup was separated into components keeping everything perfect and ready to assemble. It was accompanied by a little cup of chili oil so I could adjust the spice level as desired. The soup had a rich and savory chicken based broth. The was a generous portion of noodles, fresh green bok choy and big, tender chunks of lean pork that were lightly glazed with a sweet sauce. When put together with the rest of the soup components, they imparted just a touch of sweetness to the unctuous broth, resulting in a very satisfying bowl of soup! I love spice, and that chili oil had a very good heat level; proceed with caution. The crab Rangoon were still hot and crispy when we unpacked them. The filling was on the savory side, which I prefer; with the tangy sweet dipping sauce providing balance. The Singapore mei fun was nicely seasoned with a fragrant curry, and chunks of tender chicken (as requested, chicken only). There were a bit too many slices of bell pepper for my daughter's liking, but she just picked them out and enjoyed the dish. Overall, this spot is very promising; everything was so fresh and tasty. I anticipate returning to dine-in and sample more of their menu with friends and family. Oh, and let's not forget that Vietnamese iced coffee ... I cannot wait to try it.
