I've heard so many great things about this place but I'd say it was good but overall average. We decided to stop in for lunch and try out their $5 margs, do yourself a favor and don't do what we did. The "margaritas" did not taste like margarita. It's hard to describe but they were bitter and bland, not balanced at all. I get they're $5 but I wouldn't serve an inferior product while trying to get people in the door with that special. I decide to tell my waitress about it and she was annoyed and responded with "well it's a margarita" well it didn't taste like it. Anyways I order a Moscow mule and that was quite good. The cocktails here are not appropriately priced they're mostly $15 each. I've been to nicer restaurants in nicer areas that charge less. Onto the food it was good I don't have any complaints. It was my 1st time at their brick & mortar location. I visited on a Friday night. The ambiance is upbeat, with live music after 10pm! I sat at the bar and my server Tati did an outstanding job, from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious. The ranch water hit the spot. Brutally honest review incoming. We saw the social media hype and had to try it out for ourselves. Our first thoughts - creative decorations and a good sized menu (drinks and food) to choose from. The restaurant itself was FREEZING, we had to go back outside to get extra jackets. We ordered the margarita flight ($55) and the experience of it was pretty cool. They brought it out with a giant sparkler at the end of the plane. Drink review: Don't do it. They look cool, but that's where it ends. They came out and they were hot, even though it was in a glass full of ice. They tasted like it was all mixer, no alcohol. The two in our party who were drinking them are LIGHT weights and they didn't even feel anything. They soon got bad headaches and nausea from them because they were just straight sugar, nothing else. Food review: The quesabirria tacos were good. Very greasy, but we had no complaints. The shrimp empanadas were HORRIBLE. We took one bite and that was it. The shrimp were extremely extremely fishy, to the point where they were inedible. They also lacked the crunch of empanadas. The Gringo Roll was good, everyone liked it. The Hot Cheeto Roll really needed something else. It really lacked flavor. The street tacos were good, no complaints, lots of guacamole on top. Service review: Not very attentive or overly friendly. I was invited to this restaurant by a friend. I had been to their food truck at one point. Of course, as a brick and mortar they have way more options when it comes to food on their menu. They even have sushi. We sat outside in their patio because we each had our dogs. It is dog friendly in the patio. You do have to walk inside the restaurant and let them know that you'll be sitting outside with your dog. The patio has a few tables. They have umbrellas for shade. If it gets hot, they have a big ceiling fan and another fan that I noticed. We started with complimentary chips, salsa and beans. The salsa was too spicy for me. The beans were perfect. I had a ranch water for my drink. They do have plenty of options of drinks to choose from. For my meal I had the Remedio natural roll. I took it to go and it was great a few hours later. My friends had the shrimp empanada and the birria tacos. They both enjoyed their meals as well. I didn't catch the waitress name, but she was very nice. She offered us extra water for our dogs. Staff is super friendly. Never knew about the brand as a food truck, so my experience is just on the restaurant. I can tell they put a good amount of money into the decor and presentation of the facility. Things still feel new, clean and well-maintained. There's this interesting vibe like everywhere you look is intended for a instagram moment. Menu was somewhat extensive, but at least (7) items weren't available to order. Also, the soda is flat and unsweetened tea doesn't exist. Shrimp empanadas were really good and the only dish that was served at the proper temp. Wife got the brunch birria chilaquiles and it was room temp. I got the birria burrito and although it had the grill marks, was warm at best. The broth was super good though and not greasy in anyway. Finally had a chance to try this spot and was not disappointed! From the lively atmosphere to the delicious food, this place was a good time. Their Food Truck hit legendary status and now its time for the restaurant to create its own story. The space has plenty of seating, tables and booths, with a small private room, a nice sized patio, and a large bar with seating. The decor is bright, fun and most certainly festive! I went with the Baja Shrimp Tacos and also had a few bites of a Birria Quesadilla, which was enormous. Both were crazy good but I did love my shrimp tacos! I got a flight of margaritas and they arrived watered down but still overly sweet. My friend's drink wasn't very good. I tasted no alcohol anywhere in the drinks. There were only 2 other occupied tables in restaurant and our food and drinks took forever! Our server was more occupied with the table of 10 celebrating a birthday and getting drunk, then she was checking on us and providing refills. All the times I've drove by it since it's opening, it's been popping. We went on Saturday night around 6PM, so our wait time was around 20 minutes for 2. They took over the old location of Willie's, so it's nice to have indoor and outdoor seating. Food: very good and also very casual! First time having birria tacos, and it was DANK. I finally went once they got their restaurant location with a friend and OMG the food and drinks were sooooooo good. The decor was super cute as well. Surprised that it was located in a strip mall kinda spot and parking was a little limited but we managed to find a spot in the back. The ceviche was fresh and so filling bc I absolutely had to get the birria tacos which were hands down the best I've ever had!!! We enjoyed the vibe and music and had a good time. I went to a birthday celebration in Los Angeles, Rancho Cucamonga specifically, at a restaurant called Mama Por Dios. The restaurant had selfie backgrounds, Instagram ready cocktails, some servers performing various chants, and a pretty intriguing menu. The site calls itself Nuevo Latino, and as Bad Bunny played in the background, a line of servers bringing an Ace of Spades bottles replete with fireworks came out with the cries of "Pari! Pari! Pari!" going hard as the table followed suit. The concept and genre struck me as I have been to similar locations but couldn't pin the concept. I know it's odd to start a restaurant review mentioning another dining place 1200 miles away but I need to set the table so to speak as El Remedio has, in my opinión, created a new cuisine / genre / concept I would call the Nuevo Mexican American experience. I've been to the food truck in the past where El Remedio was slinging it's high concept food truck sushi and it's excellent tacos. The birria has always been on point and as one of the first taco joints in San Antonio to get it right, it was only time until Joshua Palacios and his team would get a brick and mortar and hit their stride. The restaurant on the Northside by Huebner and Fredericksburg near the USAA campus has been uniquely adorned with graffiti, murals, and colorful pieces of art. One thing the restaurant is, its loud. Loud in it's presentation, loud in the music that is constantly blaring, and loud in the ambiance as folks try to talk over the music. I am not complaining, and I'll explain why in a bit but you've been warned, as the first time I went, my homie just couldn't take it and we had to leave. I did manage to try to the shrimp empanadas and they were good but I knew I had to come back for a proper experience. I brought my son and his girlfriend and they immediately were taken aback by the energy the place had at 9PM on a Thursday. Peso Pluma blared through the speakers, a 40th birthday celebration going crazy, and a rowdy (such a San Antonio word) group of folks watching the TNF Game on the screens were enjoying several drinks. We ordered several plates. The birria pizza was filled to the brim with the famous birria meat; affixed between two large tortillas, the consommé that accompanied the pizza was rich and brothy, albeit a bit greasy, but definitely tasty. As I delved into the quesobirria tacos I ordered, the champagne showers started up again and the wait staff formed a chorus line and led a fireworks laden Tomamas El Toro (not sure if that's the bulls name but it should be) to the bday celebration. The Vegas style procession isn't lost on me and fits right in, with the Ace of Spades replaced with a specialty cocktail flight. I had a chamoy margarita that was good, strong, and kept me floaty. The drink was loaded with spicy chamoy and mango syrup and gives a good balance to a hefty drink. The El Remedio Roll is a perfect testament to what's going on here. My favorite sushi place Yellowfish Sushi masterfully blends the flavor profiles in Mexican sushi in what they call JapaMex. El Remedio is the natural progression to that where they go all in on the flavors, with beef, chicken, bacon, avocado, cream cheese, and mozzarella and is drizzled with tangy eel sauce. It's not for the faint of heart and will challenge your concept of what is sushi but this is the point. As Rancho Hulmide bumped in the background, I could see everything come together. 2023 was a golden year for Mexican American fusion, where a genre of music brought together several generations of Mexican Americans into the fold. The generational exchange follows the cross cultural exchange as noticed by the cuisine. Lastly, the social / economic exchange of bringing a very Las Vegas style environment that may be prohibitive / intimidating to many, but giving it a puro vibe brings a unique experience to San Anto that we simply haven't had before. We should celebrate what Joshua and his team have created, even if it doesn't appeal to you. Eventually, many others will similarly branch out and create a fusion, just like Tex Mex did over a century ago, and you'll get an experience that you will enjoy. In the meantime, go get a flight and belt out some Grupo Frontera with the homies. Pro tip: Get reservations for groups larger than 5. It gets packed. read more

I also had a shrimp empanada which was also okay. I'm not a big fish person but it was just okay. I'm glad I went because it was on my bucket list of SA restaurants but I don't think I would go again. It's cheaper and better tasting just to go to a local food truck. This is my 2nd time coming to this location. I was craving a Michelada and for $14 this 32oz michelada was delicious. But maybe a change in management might have focused on their bottom line instead of customer retention. Try lowering the volume so I don't have to yell to place my order.
