Food was good. Beans were good but tasted a little burned. Our server was very attentive.

The title will be not bad but not good. Slightly more bad than good. It appears our luck for finding random restaurants that are great ran out. It was crowded and could not find parking. Should be a great sign right? Nope. On the inside the place is quite nice. Clean and vibrant. Our waitress was awesome. I will say the food looks a lot better than it tastes. We had the stuffed jalapeños, fajita plate for one, the carne guisada plate, and sabor quesadillas with chicken. We had coffee and sweet tea. Let's analyze the first two. The jalapeños and quesadilla. If you have any restaurant experience, different items have a different cooking temp. Yes, oil has temperatures, and timing. The stuffed jalapeños were crispy almost too crispy on outside, but the bacon wrapped under the outside layer was raw. Not soft cooked, but raw. We didn't finish them. The quesadillas were just ok. Nothing super great about them. It's the chicken that threw us off....which is a Segway into the next dish. The fajitas for one. Sometimes, not all the time, a restaurant will precook or boil meats the day before or morning of to speed up turnaround times in the kitchen. The best places don't do it, but a lot do. Given my experience in kitchens, I know the taste. It also 99% of the time dries the chicken out. I immediately knew it was, but the kicker was, then actually, I feel in accident served me some of the frozen boiled pieces of chicken. Wow! I was right. The beef fajitas were actually pretty good. The shrimp lacked seasoning. The charro beans lacked salt, and I'm super sensitive to salt. The most dissatisfying thing about the meal, the corn tortillas looked spectacular, then tasted as bland as you could possibly try. The carne guisada again looked great, and the rice too. They both failed miserably. Everything seemed to lack seasoning. Apparently this place is popular for a breakfast buffet. Explains the crowds. We were never told nor offered the buffet. In hindsight probably was a great thing, given the food quality. At least it was affordable, and the beef fajita was actually quite good, maybe why it's a two. With so many great options so close together, this one I would not recommend. read more

Went with our church group, all our orders took very long to be brought. One of our sister's charro beans had literally one table spoon of beans and the rest was bean water. We ordered fish tacos which still took another 10 minutes after everyone else was served. The menu description said that coleslaw was included with the tacos, they gave us shredded lettuce. Fine, we did have a group of 10...NOT ONE WORKER seemed happy to be there, not even management. love there food and drinks but customer service, especially on drive- thru is bad, called in an order for pick up last night and went through drive-thur to pick it up, waited for almost 20 minutes. there was only one car in front of me and a truck behind me and, the place inside was almost empty and still i had to wait about 30 minutes to get my pre order food + i had also ordered a lemonade and they forgot to give it to me but they did remember to charge me for it any way. i finally had to get down to hunt my order down and waited for someone to help me and when they finally showed up i expressed to him my dissapointment and he told me that he didn't know what to tell me. it sucks because it's close to my house and very convenient but i don't think i will return + our food was cold by the time we were able to get it read more

So as I was visiting Texas again my friend told me about this place. He had great reviews about it so I wanted to try some good Mexican food. The location was ok. The outside was clean. We walk in and were immediately greeted to sit at a booth. It wasn't crowded at all. Very clean, workers took precautions. The waitress was very nice, polite with a smile big as gold. LOL. Had the pina colada it was very strong but good. The bean dip with the chips was awesome. Great taste. My friend had the tacos which they said were excellent. My mother had the Mango margarita let's say she was feeling quite nice and wavy lol after this drink. It was more than enough. Everything was cooked to perfection. Service is good, waitress was very nice and had a great sense of humor when we joked with her. The food was good (flavor wise) but the tortillas were not soft and fluffy. They were very dense and slightly stiff (still foldable). The steak and eggs plate was good but potato's were blan. But beware if you order avocado on the side. My husband and I both had avocado slices on the side but were charged 2 different prices. One was listed as avo slices $1.76 and the other charge is listed as side avocado $4.99. Which is a big difference if u ask me. I'm going to include our receipt with charges. The only other thing that I noticed was the table was still a bit dirty when we were seated. Went in on my lunch hour. Ordered the chicken puffy taco plate. Salsa and hot beans were offered with chips as an appetizer. Salsa was spicy but really good. Beans were hot and were great with the chips. However, the chips were thick chunks of tortilla that came out of a bag. Puffy tacos were OK but nothing special. Rice and beans were just OK. Where do I start......ok, I probably would not go back. The restaurant was clean and the waitress was pretty good ,however, they had a live singer there, and omg. Let's just say it was so freakin loud!!! We couldn't even talk at our table. We couldn't hear each other over that singing. This was a bad idea. Sunday morning buffet is not all that. While it may be all you can eat , tortillas are not. So as part of the morning buffet you will have to cut your barbacoa tacos short. You only get an order. lol.. was not a happy camper. No eggs, sausage, pancakes etc.? Pozole and Menudo were ok, I guess. Oh and with that buffet you get crispy tacos.. with unlimited crispy tacos lol... and unlimited tostadas as they have beans . lol But again not unlimited flour tortillas lol... anyways. Waitress keep an eye on you if not everyone in your table purchase buffet. Crazy .. and watch out waitress won't say anything to you but bring manger to table if they see you sharing food with your party. Ugh.. crazy.... Food is ok not the best. But buffet not worth it. My daughter and I came in to San Antonio and stopped off Military drive and found this Mexican restaurant called Sabor A La Mexicana, very authentic Mexican food, the servers spoke only Spanish, but it didn't keep us from letting her know what we wanted, she was very polite and I highly recommend this place to all. My daughter had sour cream enchiladas with the fixings and I had carne asada tacos with grilled onions and cilantro with charro beans & 2 of the hottest sauces i ever had but with a great taste. First time visiting this place for lunch, recommended by my lunch buddy. The outside is such a beautiful, colorful, yet modern building. Inside was decent and the menu list was ok. I couldn't find a surf & turf dish or a beef and shrimp or seafood combo so we ordered the 2 beef fajitas for two. It was a large portion but not very tasty. I was disappointed. The service was good. Thanks for the response, Isidro. We had actually eaten inside the restaurant on Mother's Day so the food was not transported from the restaurant. Also, we did bring the issue up with the staff who told us the color was from the meat seasoning. When we tried to escalate the issue to the manager, his 5 star solution we got was for us to leave and never come back. read more

Following up my initial review. Guys here dramatically reduced their portions. That's a huge turn off for me. I let them know on another social media platform and they deleted my comment. This is one of the worst Mexican restaurant in the south side. First I would like to give credit to one of the best waitresses I've ever had (Mari) girl you need to find another restaurant to work at. your hospitality is by far the best. Back to the food. The salsa we received had already turned sour and the other salsa was just red dirty water and tasted like so. I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas with a crispy taco with charro beans. The enchiladas were so hard not even a knife could cut them. The rice tasted old and the crispy taco was so disgusting. The shell was stale and the meat tasted like nothing. The charro beans had a weird flavor that I just gave up. Last thing I needed was food poisoning. The waitress brought us chips with beans and cheese but they lacked flavor that no amount of salt could fix. We never tried the other salsas as we feared they might be bad too. My husband's ordered the same but with the steak. The meat tasted like it was cooked in the morning and just put in the microwave for us. The guacamole that was smeared on the plate looked and tasted like it came from a bag. The ONLY good thing about this restaurant was the glass of cold water. DO NOT BOTHER. Keep driving. The food was ok, my husband ordered a steak ranchero , it looked more like a reg steak and they had no knives , she said they ran out . My husband used hands to tear food . The mangonada y sabor of Mexico drink had no liquor . This restaurant was not under staffed there was more waitress than customers . We had a party of 5, four of them got there food and much later the last Person got hers. San Antonio has a lot of choices , pick another place .
