My husband originally went on a Tuesday, based on the hours posted on the website, only to find it was closed. So he went back on Wednesday because he really wanted to try the beef tongue tacos. He did take out, the tongue tacos for himself and a chicken quesadilla for me. The place is fairly small. The food was okay, the serving sizes small for the price. The place is small, the waiters are quiet but nice overall. The food is decent id say fun size. The chips and salsa were cold and felt old like if made the day before just because they weren't warm but that's okay. The main course made up for it. Warning: You have to pay $3.50 for chips and salsa!! A plain cheese quesadilla is $8, which is high. The Mexican shrimp cocktail is reasonably priced at $12 but barely includes avocado. The food isn't bad, but it isn't special either; it's your typical Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere isn't ideal at all. I expected the bathroom to be sketchy, but surprisingly, it's a high point of the restaurant (clean, nice soap, plenty of toilet paper and paper towels). There are too many fantastic Mexican options in Myrtle to give this restaurant a higher rating. read more

If you're looking for authentic homemade Mexican food this is definitely the place. Not only are the tortillas handmade and are homemade. They taste so fresh and so late but I'm totally in love. The Carna Asada tacos are amazing. The beans and rice are super delicious and are everything you want and authentic Mexican meal. Tacos and carne asada and quesadilla were best we've had. We came from the southwest and were upset to no find a Mexican food joint. There were of course the large brick and mortar but we are accustomed to the recipes that are found in someone's grandmas kitchen and it didn't disappoint. Coming from California and a having an amazing population of Hispanics also taco trucks as much as gas stations around us this place is a hit. I order the asada plate. The asada was perfectly cooked. It came with rice and beans that was good. They threw in some shredded lettuce that could've had more pizazz to it like a pico styled. Last had avocados, jalapeños, onions & radish for a great finish with what tasted like, homemade tortillas. Green sauce was great with flavor and red sauce was great for spice. Personal wasn't too spicy for me but to be fair I eat Thai chilis, raw jalapeños and other spices on a regular. Solid place that taste homemade. First off, if you're looking for a great authentic Mexican taco, you'll find that here. Hands down best chicken and carne asada tacos ever. Now for the bad. First off, the service was atrocious. The waitress never checked on us and we had to flag her down to get a water refill. Second, the food was ridiculously overpriced and the servings were nothing. One taco was literally three bites of food. No sides whatsoever. You also get no complimentary chips and salsa, but we did buy them and the chips were stale. We spent a lot of money and left hungry. If you can get past the crappy service, small portions, and overpriced food, then you'll probably enjoy this place, as the food really is good. I hate leaving a 2-Star review when the food (aside from chips) is good, but those other things matter a lot, and I doubt I'll go back there. There are many other authentic Mexican restaurants in the area that I'd go to first. read more

A good hole in the wall place in myrtle beach. We came at around 8:30 pm. Walking in felt a little awkward because it was so silent--no music was like playing, and the tv was on but there was no sound. There was only one server working, at least at the front of the restaurant, and since all the food is made from scratch, it did take awhile to get our food (~30 min). Still worth it. I believe the tacos were about $2-3 each. When we got there, some of the options were sold out! I guess they were busy that day. The tacos were delicious, definitely filled me up! My cousin told me the beef tongue was cooked perfectly--I gotta try it next time! read more

Nothing good about it. My girlfriend and I went here and we shared the beef, chicken, and shrimp Fajitas. It tasted like I was eating tablespoons of salt with every bite. It was so bad we didn't even eat half of it. Also, unlike every other Mexican restaurant, there was not chips and salsa so I ordered some for an additional $3.50. The chips seemed store bought and the pico was very heavy on cilantro. Last thing, I asked for a bud light and she wanted a margarita but the waitress told us that they no longer can serve alcohol. I love authentic Mexican food. I eat it often at home. So when we came to Myrtle Beach we wanted to find a good Mexican restaurant. The reviews led us here to El Rey Del Taco. We pulled up and we're nervous to go in as there was only one sign on and one car in the lot. However, we went in and were told to sit anywhere. We sat and looked over the menu that was all in Spanish which was slightly annoying ( I don't speak Spanish unfortunately so I couldn't read the menu. Maybe put English translations on it as well?). We ordered and I asked for no cilantro or onions. The food came out quickly but the positive-ish experience ended there. My food was horrible. I honestly got through half of a taco and felt like vomiting. I ordered beef tacos and they left the cilantro and onion on them. The beef was extremely tough and hard to chew. There was zero flavor to anything even with hot sauce. I ate half of my first taco and gave the rest to my boyfriend. We had to wait 20+ minutes for our check which was irritating as well as we were the only people there. Giving 2 stars because the food came fast and my boyfriend really enjoyed his Chorizo tacos ( though even he agreed he's had better elsewhere). Prices are also pretty low. read more

Very good tacos. We went in for a late lunch, I had a beef, a shrimp, and a chicken taco. I was able to get the onions and Pico on the side, that's a big plus for me. The red sauce is very spicy but also very good. It's nice to have another good place walking distance from home. read more
