Big Mexican restaurant with great service, good food, and pretty reasonable prices. El Rodeo's menu is approachable if you've never had Mexican food, without turning it into a sit down Chipotle. They will serve you what is basically a Mission style burrito if that's what you really want, but most of the burritos do not have rice and beans inside them. For me it's all about good food. There wasn't any to be had here. First red flag I should have seen was the server asked if I wanted beef or chicken in my traditional pork entree. Chili verde burrito came not in a burrito, ok mistakes happen. One of our party asked for sauce in the side. It was on their food. Ok mistakes happen. It wasn't really busy so these were annoying but it happens. The food quality was just atrocious. My slow cooked pork was dry and literally jerky. Rice was flavorless, beans runny soup. Fajita meats over cooked and tough. I took a single bite handed it back to our server and asked them to throw that food out. It was just terrible. They didn't appear to care it was terrible. The only thing I can recommend there is the chips and salsa and the drinks. I hadn't eaten all day, so after saying goodbyes to the wonderful people we had gone out with, I hit a fast food place so I could at least get some kind of food in me before the long drive home. read more

Walked in and was seated by a guy who barely acknowledged my existence. Didn't ask me where I wanted to sit but just sat me next to the door. Never said a word and didn't ask what I wanted for a drink. Eventually, after quite a wait, a busy waitress stops by and brings me some chips and salsa. Not really salsa, more like canned tomato sauce that's been doctored up with some onions and garlic and a sprinkle of parsley. I guess I should admit I've recently moved here from Southern California. So I know good Mexican food and I know good salsa. I requested if they had a spicier salsa, and was told they just have something in a bottle. Well if one comes from a can, it's no surprise another comes from a bottle. Salsa is the easiest thing to make fresh, guys. If you can't do that right, it throws the whole establishment into question. At my lovely booth by the door, I'm forced to watch a young staff member try to seduce the hostess the entire time which was almost enough to put me off the chips. Get a room you two, or at least wait till you clock out. My server was accommodating but not overly warm. And that's fine, at least she wasn't trying to make out with the chef in front of me. Servers have a tough job, so I don't knock off points for not being super friendly or warm as long as they are competent (and she was), just thought it worth mentioning in terms of describing the experience. I got a veggie burrito that wasn't disgusting but wasn't mind blowingly good either. It was kinda plain except with the occasional bite being saltier than the chips, so I requested some enchilada sauce to improve things a bit. They put potatoes in it which I've never in my life had except in a breakfast burrito. Overall it was mediocre at best. I will say I've dined several places here in Concord since my recent move and all of them have been warm, accepting, and friendly places thus far, but not this restaurant. El Rodeo opened recently in the former Outback Steakhouse serving authentic Mexican cuisine for lunch and dinner. Concord was definitely in need of another option for Mexican food since there are only two other Mexican restaurants in the City plus a few quick service burrito places. I stopped in at El Rodeo for a sitdown lunch. I was promptly seated and the waiter arrived to my table with COMPLEMENTARY chips and salsa and said COMPLEMENTARY! Margaritas also gives out complementary chips and salsa, but the other local Mexican restaurant (Hermano's) and the burrito places across the river charge extra for chips & salsa. The basket of corn tortilla chips were warm and crispy served with mild tomato salsa (poured from a clear bottle). For lunch, I ordered the Special Lunch #12 ($7.00 plus tax): chicken burrito and chicken enchilada topped with poblano sauce, lettuce, and sour cream with a side of Mexican rice. The entree took about 15 minutes to arrive at my table. During the wait, the waiter offered me more chips & salsa. The good amount of food served on a very hot plate was very tasty and filling. The waiter did offer me dessert (fried ice cream, flan), but I decided to pass the offer since I needed to go back to work. I will definitely be back to El Rodeo of Concord for lunch and dinner since it's located close to my workplace. read more

Due to an early closing time at another restaurant, we decided to visit here for the first time to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Though there was outdoor dining available, we opted for indoor instead. We were brought to a large booth with room for all of us and immediately had our server at the ready. Beverages and appetizers were quickly brought to us, and all of it was great. We all ordered different combo type meals, and without exception they were really well presented and exceptionally tasty. Love it here! There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in NH, but they bad. I was spoiled with incredible Mexican food living in the South/Southwest which is impossible to find in this part of the country. Food and tortilla chips are delicious, but the pollo parillado (wish it came with more than 2 tortillas) accompanied with their amazing jalapeno margarita is my favorite! Service is good, even in these covid times, although my most recent visit was disappointing. This has to be the worst Mexican food I have ever had and I honestly have had fantastic Mexican where I am from. The service was ok. The ambience was whatever. If the food was amazing I wouldn't even notice the ambience as much. I ordered a burrito and it was so small it made Taco Bell's look huge. The food came out so fast. It made me wonder and oh how I found out. Did they microwave the food? It was disgusting. I think there was a spoonful of beans and rice on the plate $16 bucks? Nope. Also my friend ordered taco quesadillas and they were so soggy they fell apart. Also looked microwaved. We took a few bites and as suspected it was trash. I think I could have crapped better Mexican food. Avoid this place like Covid-19. I would give this less than one star but I'm not given that as a choice. Not sure why there are positive reviews here unless those who left the reviews have never had Mexican before or even good Mexican and this is what they think Mexican food is. This was the worst Queso Fundido I have had in my entire life. Queso Fundido is normally not a very difficult dish to make: brown some chorizo layer it with cheese and bake it in the oven. Unfortunately what El Rodeo serves can not be called Queso Fundido. Here it was just a lukewarm cheese sauce with some chorizo on the bottom. It's temperature is lukewarm instead of hot...the texture is watery instead of gooey and cheesy. My review went from one star to two because the burrito wrap was excellent. The burrito was enormous and tasty!! Then the server kindly did not charge us when I said I didn't like it so I raised review to three stars. It's a nice looking restaurant with nice outdoor seating. El Rodeo is above average for Mexican restaurants. It's not as good as a high end, completely authentic, non-Americanized place, but those are incredibly few and far between, especially outside the Southwest. So this is definitely one of the best in New England. Regarding practicalities, it's all fine - nice atmosphere, outdoor seating in the summer, plenty of parking, right off of I-89, and the service has always been good. The food all tastes good and is well presented. I don't have much to say about most things on the menu except that they are better-than-average quality and about what you'd expect. My only real negative comment is that the burritos and chimichangas are very small. Do not order them and expect the football-sized things you get at most places. You will get two things roughly the size of egg rolls. They're very good, but you might wish you had more. To me they seemed more like an appetizer. The starter chips and salsa are delicious. The chips are nice and crispy,, clearly fresh and home-made, and the salsa has just the right little kick. We usually end up asking for more salsa. They serve it cold (refrigrrated) with I think really makes the taste pop. For an appetizer, I always get the Queso Fundido - delicious warm melted cheese dip with some chorizo in it. Yummy! For entrées, all the usual stuff is there, so if you're looking for your "standard" favorite, you will find it. Someone who just wants tacos will be happy.. But the hidden gem of El Rodeo in my opinion, the reason I go there instead of a closer place, and the reason I'm writing this review, is one menu item I'd never seen anywhere else, and it's out of this world. That is the Molcajete Azteca. It comes in a large bowl of hot volcanic rock. It's sort of a stew/mixed grill with chicken, beef, shrimp, and chorizo mixed with an amazing blend of spices, grilled scallions, a little jalapeño, nice melty cheese, and actual cactus., I tell you, it's to die for - so much better than the sum of its ingredients. I don't know what's in the sauce but they should bottle it! If you're looking for a "new" taste at a Mexican restaurant that doesn't just taste like the same old combination of ingredients, if you're a little adventurous, try this. The flavor is amazing, and different - in a delicious way. It's big, but I always finish every bite, even the cactus, and usually wish I could lick the bowl clean. For dessert, don't miss the Churros. Sinfully, decadently delicious. I strongly encourage El Rodeo to develop more dishes along these lines. I can get a fajita anywhere. I go to this restaurant for what I can't get elsewhere. I bet they could find lots more similar recipes and do really well by having more things beyond the same old standards. We tried making a reservation for 7 adults and 2 children and we were told per Governor Sununu's orders "there can not be more than 6 adults at 1 table." I asked to speak with the manager and he reiterated the same message stating that 8 months ago the Governor made this rule. I tried to ask another question and he abruptly hung the phone up. I called back and the manager answered then rudely told me "he's too busy and I need to find another place" and hung up again. According to the COVID-19 REOPENING GUIDANCE GOVERNOR'S ECONOMIC REOPENING TASK FORCE, released on March 11, 2021 under Consumer Protection item 3 it states "Limit tables to no more than ten (10) individuals total." Unless I'm mistaken there's nothing in there about the number of adults or children per table. I understand they have the right to refuse service or to have their own restrictions but that was not the reason they refused my reservation! I probably come here once a month and I don't even look at the menu anymore because I always get the same thing! I start off with a strawberry margarita -- very sweet and available frozen or on the rocks. I usually split the bean dip with my friend, which has a nice cheesy coating and is delish. Then I get the ground beef enchiladas as my entree, which I also love. When I know I'm coming here, I spend all week thinking about it because it's so tasty! I am Mexican so I tend to be picky about Mexican restaurants. We ordered the Molcajete Azteca which is essentially a complex grill of mixed meats and shrimp with Nopales served on a hot stone bowl. We ordered tequila from the house Herradura and not only it was fun to order and delicious, we received a nice explanation of it. The restaurant has a great atmosphere.
