For 30 years now I've lived almost across the street from Santa Rosa Ave North 505 location. I remember when the truck first parked here, a couple years ago, Competition with our beloved one and only neighborhood taqueria located across the street. I tried the food truck a few times and while it's difficult to have someone answer the phone for an order, we finally tried it once or twice, especially when our usual neighborhood taqueria closed early. The truck's food was not bad, actually tasty, and average affordable taco truck prices. I liked that they use by default, whole beans and the salsa is tasty. I don't go out any to eat much these days, like i used to because everything is so expensive. BUT when i do go out, i expect service and quality. I only go out these days because I'm too tired to cook, not that i don't know how to, and BTW.. i cook all kinds of foods way better than your taco truck. That said, here's why I'm not happy: I knew I loved the shrimp tacos w/ chipotle cream sauce; last time i had 5 on a plate and it was great. This time the guy asked if i wanted the 2 taco with rice and beans, taco special. I thought, you know, i like their whole beans, I'll get that this time. I had guacamole added to tacos and asked for some grilled onion and pepper on the side. Plus i was ordering two regular chicken burritos that consisted of grilled chicken, whole beans, rice, cheese, and salsa. The whole order with tax n tip was $38.75 When we got it home and opened everything a few moments later, since i live so close, the burritos seemed fine, with the usual nice tasty Whole beans but this time my taco order was off putting. I opened the box to find two of those teeny tiny tacos, each with just two shrimp, topped with pico de gaillo and guacamole (that i asked for), no grilled peppers and onion, the rice, and the weirdest thing, the beans came not whole, as expected, . The beans were the consistency of a refried bean soup, like they added water, put through a siv or blender for a baby, and it was a gross pale color as If it had been blended with sour cream? And both the rice and beans had drops of sour cream or was it cheese (?) like someone had removed it after adding (?). And there were no chips. I thought let me go back since i just live here. I went up to the truck and told the guy he'd forgotten the grilled pepper and onion, and chips. He handed the grilled veggies to me, but he threw me off when he said, oh we don't have chips, the trucks don't have them, only at our taqueria. Made me start thinking, wow, our long time favorite taqueria across the street always includes chips; sheesh! Then i told him about the beans and he was surprised, asking, "did you ask for them as normally you get, the whole beans." I said no, i never would get refried beans, only whole and i like your whole beans. He says, I'm sorry that happened to you maam.... That was going to be it, but i asked, "maybe you can give me a small side of the whole beans?" He says, oh would you like to buy some? (omg we're talking 1/3 cup cooked whole beans for a Could be regular Customer who lives across the street. Where is your marketing sense?!) No thank you, just wanted you to know you got your beans wrong and I'm not happy with the refried bean soup you gave me. The people in the truck began laughing with each other, like a private joke re the beans. I didn't ask you to remake the order! Nothing. "Sorry maam", smirk, smirk. Not recommended unless you clarify everything with them and open your packages before you leave the premises. When i got home I began eating my tacos but was grossed out by the rice and beans. I imagined it was probably someone else's order that was returned. Looked like the food truck tried to remove whatever that other customer wanted removed like sour cream or cheese. I started thinking they may have tasted it! It looked like they tried to give it to me ! I couldn't eat it. There's no where to sit but your car and the ambiance is a parking lot. Be careful with your kids as there's a very busy street nearby and cars randomly driving in n out the parking lot. See attached photos read more

I did not care for the food here. My husband enjoyed the mexi-hot dogs and the pollo taco was fine. The chicken was moist but not very flavorful. My carne asada in my taco and quesadilla were very under seasoned. It felt strange and was like a shredded piece of flavorless meat. The guacamole was very tart with lime. The salsa bar was limited with several containers of the same spicy red, as well as a couple of the same verde. The chips were not delicious: very thick and felt baked not fried. Saw people lining up outside so wanted to give it a try. Food truck located in a parking lot. Sections of the truck window are clearly labeled for ordering, pickup, and online pick up. Truck is vibrant and easy to spot. Menu is on a foldable sign next to the truck. Super burrito with pollo asado. Was given a pager which rung when ready. Burrito was densely loaded. I was pleased to find the chicken flavorful and not dry. I do wish the burrito itself came with some salsa either in it or on the side. While the burrito wasn't necessarily dry, I think it could have benefited from a wet ingredient. I think it was offered to me when I ordered and I said yes to everything but didn't have anything other than the burrito in my bag. I did fully devour it though and, overall, it was still a tasty burrito with great meat. read more

Everybody in Santa Rosa talks about El Roy's like it's a STAPLE here. Love me a solid Mexican food truck. Stopped by for their taco plate especial which is three street tacos that comes with refried beans and tomato rice. Their food truck is so easy to spot a mile away, under those hella bright lights. Plenty of parking too. Many of us were there for to-go, so we just order with the sweet folks and wait around for the food. I would say that it actually took a solid 15 mins for my order to come out, which I didn't expect. The portions are standard, and honestly the food was just alright. I got birria, lengua and asada. All were delicious, but lengua was my fave. Flavors were alright but it honestly didn't live up to the hype of a "must." I think there are many other great Mexican food trucks in SR from Delicias to Tacos San Juan and Tacos Iniguez. El Roy's is a lil overrated for me. Great people though! read more

When I say that El Roy's is "going in the wrong direction" I don't mean what you think I mean. Specifically, El Roy's has now expanded from 3 outposts in Petaluma to an additional outpost further north, in Santa Rosa. The food remains great but can El Roy's cut a girl a break? Please start expanding your reach to the south - the "other" direction; I need you nearer to my Marin County home. It'ms almost impossible for me to drive past Petaluma without stopping at El Roy's, even if I've already eaten and am not hungry. Inevitably I need to get a couple of burritos for "later" or a couple tacos for now. Amongst the burritos always purchased? The Super Shrimp Burrito. The person who loves the El Roy's version counts it amongst the best of versions and you know what makes it even better? It's consistent. Again, as before, I brought home a Super Shrimp Burrito (made as requested, with refried beans) and the quality, taste, and consistency was the same as it has always been (excellent) and the same as it is at each of their Petaluma outposts. Such consistency, I've found, is rare amongst taquerias and deserves applause. I mostly prefer El Roy's tacos over their burritos and have yet to consume anything I've found less than delicious. Consistently delicious, which is why I stop every time I come across their big orange truck. I just wish I'd spot it somewhere closer to home. read more

2 stars for the very nice woman working the drive thru, but for a super burrito, this thing was tiny, and more expensive than most other places in town. The burrito was ok, nothing special. No chips, no salsa included either. Felt pretty ripped off and still hungry. Boo. read more

It seems that up to this point, there has been no entry or review for this particular El Roy's truck. I figured that I would therefore add it since there are entries for each location. We started going to this El-Roy's truck, actually the first we went to, after discovering it had opened up in this location, which is very convenient for us. This is just a food truck in a parking it which also hosts the local flea market. It has no seating of its own. The food is excellent overall. The al pastor is very flavourful and not overly spicy as it sometimes it can be. I would love it if it had some pineapple, which I love with al pastor but otherwise it is excellent and tender. 4 stars overall. The carnitas are great as well, but not outstanding and not as good as the carnitas at nearby Las Palmas. 4 stars. The lengua (tongue) is also excellent. It is the cubed kind and although I generally prefer the shredded kind, it is very nicely cooked and comes out tasting delicious (not the case when this kind is not properly cooked) and is soft and tender. 5 stars. Carne asada is very good and not hard and dried out as it sometimes can be. They lack shredded chicken or beef, which is a slight mark against them. We have so far had tacos dorados (crispy), sopes, and gorditas. They are all excellent with plenty of meat. Toppings are nice, fresh and nice quality, and in large quantities - crumbled cotija, shredded lettuce, etc. The tacos are outstanding, flavourful with a nice crispy texture. 5 stars for the tongue, al pastor, and carnitas versions. Sopes are great with a nice texture. 4.5 stars. Gorditas are also excellent, with a nicey crisy texture, especially for the top portion. 5 stars. All have plenty of fillings. They are good value for the money. They offer escabeche with carrots, onions, and jalapeno. Salsa is flavourful. They also offer grilled onions and jalapenos. Horchata is very good. Service is very good, fast and friendly. read more

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GET CATERING THROUGH EL ROYS. We called their catering line a dozen times over 3 months requesting whether or not they could cater our April wedding. In October, 6 months out they said it was "too early to book and call back in November". We called 3x in November. Finally in December they said "they would have the catering person get back to us"??? Another 9 calls later in mid-January literally 3 months out from our wedding they "declined to contract due to previous endeavor/engagement". So they booked our date, while telling us they weren't booking yet. Absolutely disgusting business practice. Avoid at all costs. read more

Tried the newly opened drive through location - we went in and were greeted by Daisy who was amazing !!! She was very helpful & very patient with my undecided crew lol - she even went as far as letting one of us try the salsa before agreeing to it in their burrito ! Our daughter called to tell us El Roy's restaurant on Santa Rosa Ave is finally open and they have a drive thru and a delicious salsa bar! My husband went and were happy we did. We enjoyed our food outside, under the umbrella covered tables. The food was great, loved the new salsa, excellent service and the food was quick to arrive. We will definitely be back to support this restaurant. read more

Great tacos, Dorados, as always. But if you're gonna be rude to your customers when they pick up your food, they should really be allowed to resend their tip! I was just at the new Sebastopol Road location and they did not give me a number and when I asked for one, she copped an attitude. Which was totally unnecessary! read more

I love this food truck. My fave is the tacos dorados carnitas. They are original and delicious. You can call ahead and pick up instead of waiting in line. Highly recommend. read more
