Stopped by here yesterday because we were in the area. I must tell you this is the best taqueria/Mexican restaurant in the entire DMV. I have visited tons! I'll try and organize my review below: Appearance: Take a look at the pics. This place is so colorful you feel like you're in a small Mexican cafe. Everything from the walls to the seats are so catching to the eye. Cleanliness: The fact that you can watch them prepare your food says it all. Aside from that this place was spotless. Bathrooms: A must review. I always check out the bathrooms of the places I visit. It tells me a lot about the business. The bathrooms here are singles, men and women. Super clean! Service: Very friendly. They speak both English and Spanish so don't let this place intimidate you from stopping by and trying everything on the menu. Food: This is not a typical Virginia Mexican Restaurant. You're not gonna get chips and salsa. It's a taqueria with a smaller menu but they do everything on the menu first class. I ordered a small menudo and a few tacos of different meat. Menudo was delicious. Tacos were one corn tortilla but priced reasonably. You order at one area and pick-up food at another. Typically no waitresses but if not too many customers they will occassionally bring to your table. We left a tip on the table because food and service were top notch. Overall i gave this place 5 stars! Some people complain about a few things about this place but i can't really think of a reason i wasn't 100% satisfied! read more

We stopped here today for the first time and will absolutely be back. I had the steak tacos and husband had the chicken tacos. Great flavor, very welcoming and attentive staff. Can't say enough good things about the food, staff, and overall experience at El Rulas. The family-owned taqueria seems to pride itself in their ability to make everyone and anyone feel welcome upon entering the restaurant. The barbacoa, al pastor, & tripa tacos are my personal favorite, but don't hesitate to explore the rest of their delicious menu! Overall a 10/10 recommendation for anyone. was craving tacos one night and i wanted to try other places around instead of going to el molinos and saw that this place was extremely close to work and home. Saw the good reviews and had to check this place out and i gotta say, best fucking tripa(tripe) tacos ive had. the barbacoa and chorizo tacos are also really good. I called El Rulas to order carry out, and they did not understand English well at all. I eventually gave up trying to order on the phone and just drove over to the restaurant to order. When I got there, no one spoke English super well, but they were able to take my order at least. If you know exactly what you want it's fine, but if you try to get explaination About the dishes, it's nearly impossible. Once I ordered they were pretty quick, and I left with my food. When I got home, it was completely plain. There were no tomatoes or toppings or sauces. They only packed me three sauces in separate containers, which were ALL spicy. If you don't like spicy you can forget having any flavor on your tacos because it was just plain cilantro and chicken. I was shocked when I opened the box and found the tiniest tacos I've ever seen, but didn't care too much because it was only around two bucks per taco. I DID like the fact that the tortillas seemed fresh and all ingredients used seemed straight up and natural. It seemed very authentic, which is why I would give it two stars. The interior atmosphere was also well decorated. :) I got very sick after eating these tacos and the quesadilla I ordered, though. I'm not sure if the kitchen is dirty or they ingredients did not sit well with me, but the food definitely made me a bit sick. I do not plan to return. read more

Being from Cali it has been extremely difficult to find good tacos. You would think with the DC metro being so diverse it would be an easy find. However, I stumbled on El Rulas and they didn't disappoint. Tacos remind me of Southern California. I tried the shredded beef, bisteck and al pastor tacos, all which were really good. The salsas are good as well. it does take some time to get your food so I would order ahead and it a far drive from Loudoun county or DC but it is worth it. I will also get the horchata, it has the perfect balance of sweetness and cinnamon. read more

Guys.... what are you doing? Get up out of your bed or chair and drive to Manassas now! I just discovered tacos almost as divine as my Cali tacos at the flea markets at Tacos Rulas! Now, tacos are life; if you love authentic Mexican tacos you need to come here NOW. I got a bit of everything because as you know you can't forget to order the tongue, carne, head meat, chorizo, mixto and the best for last the pork. Everything was amazing. But what shined the most was that pork taco with a fresh hand made tortilla dipped in pork fat. Oh my gosh this simply was the best pork taco I ever had in my life. Like I don't like pork as much as I like carne but this pork was special. Also you need to get the Horchata! This was the best Horchata ever made at a restaurant that I have had. I am defiantly going back to ask them for the exact recipe because if you don't measure right your horchata will taste like crap! Now, I'm telling all you fellow yelpers, foodies and readers alike you will not regret driving to a empty plaza in a quiet corner of Manassas to eat the best authentic Mexican tacos in the area. Love this place. Don't get put off by the "language issue" comments. I can speak Spanish, but felt fine ordering in English. My first trip, so I tried a taco medley; barbacoa, carnitas, pastor and the chorizo/steak mix. Hands down the chorizo/steak mix was my favorite, followed by the al pastor, barbacoa then carnitas. My next trip will be a taste test of the organ meats, I do love me some beef tongue tacos. The tacos are pretty inexpensive and three would do me for lunch, and maybe four at dinner. The wife had the chicken burrito and was about the size you'd get at chipotle, but at about 2/3ds the price and in my opinion, just as good in a different way. The inside is clean and nicely decorated, not many tables though. I ordered take-out, so not a concern. I did notice they had plenty of beer in the cooler though. Can't wait to go again. read more

Stumbled across this place in an unassuming strip mall last Fall and have made several trips there since. The food is simple, freshly prepared, and delicious. Real Mexican-style street food tacos served with onions and cliantro. Have tried about half of the different offerings and they've all been delicious. Top it off with a Mexican Coke (big up for real sugar-it tastes BETTER) and you have a fantastic, inexpensive, and satisfying dinner. How good is this place? My wife took a friend here for lunch (the friend had been complaining about not being able to find good Mexican food in the area), then got a text message that night with a picture of her friend, who had brought her entire family back to El Rulas for dinner! read more

I went and ordered take out at 7pm on Sunday and the place was packed with a line to order at the counter. Everyone Hispanic which is a good sign of authenticity. Got lengua and cabeza tacos and campechano quesadilla. The tacos were amazing, well seasoned, fresh and definitely will go back for more. The quesadilla was ok, nothing spectacular. It's supposed to be a beef and sausage combo but it was mostly ground beef, didn't get much sausage. Glad i found this place as my other favorite taco place closed. read more

Overall good experience. I got food to go, but they messed up my order. Luckily by the time I was done eating tacos, I was too full for the burrito they forgot anyways. The tacos were excellent! I called the restaurant upset when I had got home to discover my missing burrito but I quickly forgave them after them after the first bite of my tacos. The red hot sauce is to die for. Quesadilla was excellent, the star was the steak tacos, and chicken and pork tacos are delicious too. Pickled whole jalapeños are super good! Would definitely return! This was a great place for tacos and lonches (tortas). There food is Guadalajara style which means don't expect cheese, sour cream, or extra stuff. The tacos and lonches have cilantro and onions that's it. The menudo was very flavorful but did not have hominy (which is ok b/c the broth made up for that). If you are expecting Uncle Julio's or Tex-Mex then you will be disappointed. But if you want great, flavorful authentic Mexican this is your joint.
