Authentic Dominican food, my personal favorites being the sopa de mondongo( if texture isn't an issue and you have the stomach for tripe it's divine) and the chicken mofongo in garlic sauce, yum! The atmosphere is lowkey and I've never seen it packed, although they do have good business during dinner and weekend hours. It's a little pricey, but the quality is worth it. Service was terrible. I went to this restaurant with my family on mother's day. I was happy to see that the restaurant was pretty empty and we were seated right away. However, it took 20minutes for them to serve us coffee. As time proceeded, the tables of the restaurant filled and everyone received their meals. Many of these meals consisted of rice, beans, chicken, cheeseburgers, fries etc. It was 45 minutes later and my family still hadn't received their meals. We had ordered egg sandwiches and tres golpes. When we addressed the waitress, she said that the place was "busy" Management said that didnt have an excuse and did not know why this happened. Sabor's Oxtail Stew was recommended two weeks ago by a few of my neighbors. Stopped by last weekend and have been back 3 times since! The Oxtail was perfect. I have not eaten inside the restaurant but the to-go orders come very quick. You order off a menu, then in under 3 minutes you are walking out the door with your food. Homemade, authentic, Dominican food! Like some of the other posts have stated, they don't always have what you order, they might be out for the day, but there are plenty of choices to back you up. For a single guy, this place is great to grab a quick dinner for under $10 and have enough leftover for lunch the next day. First off I didn't see the reviews about roaches and mice being seen in this restaurant until today so I definitely won't be back. However, they also have terrible business etiquette! I literally purchased a family combo inside the restaurant for $20, I attempted to order it again with another lady and she tells me it is $25. It's $18 on grub hub mind you ! So, it's a $7 difference for me to use my gas to pick up my own food? So, I tell the woman that I purchased it for $20 literally the day before and instead of trying to accommodate me I get a nonchalant attitude . This place should change their name to "El Mas o Menos sabor dominicano". Its so hit and miss that I cant explain it. One day the bistec encebollado is killer then the next time like today its tasteless and tough..almost as if a kosher vegetarian had cooked it !! The one thing that always hits is the pollo asado. Its always seasoned and cooked nicely. The service is great, the ladies at the counter are always polite, prompt and actually greet you unlike other place with a high volume of take out orders. EL Sabor Dominicano is a spot where you can go to if you are in the mood for good Spanish food but just don't want too cook. Their food is good and their prices are fair. It could use a face lift and sometimes the music is competing with the televisions but the people are friendly and the servings are large. It's not as good as my cooking but like I said, if you are tired and don't want to cook but you want a good alternative to fast food or some Latin home cooking check this place out. Went here last night with hubby and we both loved our meals. I had the pernil over yellow rice and peas and he had stewed octopus. We shared a side order of sweet plaintains as well. My pork was cooked perfectly. It was tender and flavorful. His stewed octopus was also delicious. The sauce it came in was YUMMY. We loved the rice and peas and the plaintains too. It was a perfect meal and cheap too. I had 2 Presidente beers and hubby had an homemade tea (which was a tad bit too sweet for his taste) and it all came out to only $38 (and I took home leftovers!). You can't beat their prices, that's for sure. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. At first we felt like a couple of "gringos" out of place ... but she made us feel right at home! My boyfriend and I were hankering for some good Dominican food, and our usual spot was closed, so we checked this place out. We figured we couldn't go wrong, given all the great reviews. Maybe we went on a bad night, but I got the fried pork, with rice beans and maduros. I am Dominican, so I am a good judge of the food. The pork.. was so dry, and tough, and fairly flavorless. The maduros were far from sweet. My boyfriend got the Pernil, and the issue of flavor remains the same. The rice and beans were delicious, but overall, the food made me kind of sad just to look at. Now this is Dominican food. You walk in and you feel right at home. The staff is very friendly. The food is just down right amazing. Its comfort food at its best and the tres leche cake is out of this world. The setting is very, very casual but thats ok. Thats the type of setting you want for a home cooked meal. I was last there on Memorial day 2012 with my family of six. As usual we were cared for right away, service is excellent even for a bigger group. Although I have been eating there for 3 years I felt it necessary to finally write a review because they surprised me with some new menu options. It's great to see a well established place still doing their best for their customers. Our family always orders the same stuff but this time we tried the broiled salmon with garlic and REAL mashed potatoes, which in most places are the cardboard kind. I am Puertorican and my hubby is Dominican so we are a good judge of Dominican food. This is a great place and a great value.
