Omg what a disappointment... I did read the reviews before going in and I decided to give the place a chance but oh man I should have listened..... I ordered a steak torta with fries with EXTRA EXTRA MEAT!! It was supposed to be with beans, lettuce, cheese and sour cream. Got home and opened the plate to this..... the salsa cups were here aired up they' explode when you open them up and it taste really bad, bread is nasty, stale and smells odd, basically tiny bit of lettuce, time pinch of tomato and boom they call it a torta... the only good thing about this 14$ meal are the fries... read more

I was staying at the comfort suites for the thanksgiving weekend and was looking for Mexican food as I was already tired of the snow bar food. And here is El Saltire Mexican little plaza. walking distance From hotel. I've been to Chicago many many times and I usually stay in the Rosemont area weather is fine restaurants. But the hospitality in this place is really warm nothing fancy at all about it as a matter fact it looks a little sketchy. But the service is four-star they cater to your needs very helpful with the menu also very reasonable and the portions are very big. The burritos and the tacos are outstanding the quesadilla was delicious and the fish tacos are to die for a must try. I've been here for 4 days vistes 3 times already. read more

This is a local taco place not far from home for me and my wife. We came in just trying to find our new "go-to" after our last restaurant went down on quality. After the salsa and chips arrived at our table, we were hopeful. The salsa was really delicious. Unfortunately, the tacos came and while the al pastor taco was delicious, the carnitas and the steak taco were less than desirable. The horchata was made from powder. Good service, good portions, good pricing, great salsa. Unfortunately the other flavors are underwhelming. I had a burrito lunch which was sized nicely and at $5.99 is a good deal. The steak though had that funny aftertaste you sometimes get with a cheap cut of meat. It needs to either be seasoned or chargrilled. The rice was ok, the beans were tasty but too runny for my taste. The salsas were tasty and spiced just right. I'll give it another try - as there are limited Mexican restaurants in this area - otherwise I may have to risk getting caught by the Franklin train to hit up the better spots just south. read more

Stopped on in for a quick lunch recently. I had the steak fajita (lunch portion) which was pretty good - and cheaply priced. Comes with lettuce, rice, guacamole, sour cream and also beans and tortillas (but I opted out for both of those). Restaurant is a standard no-frills - located in an older strip. I have been eating Menudo since I was a wee child, and it's really a Sunday tradition for me. I only say that because that could be the reason I am so critical when it comes to trying other Menudo. It's only recently that I have been seeing Menudo offered daily at Mexican restaurants in my area. Normally, Menudo is saved for the weekends, or on Sunday morning for that hangover cure-all. I saw it offered here and I was excited to give a shot. Based on other reviews, lack of flavor seems to be a thing here. I was so disappointed, the caldo was so bland. No flavor, I couldn't even taste the peppers in it. The caldo seemed like it had hot water poured into to it to stretch it out; no spice, no rich flavor from the guajillo or anything for that matter. The portion of meat in it was laughable, like ten pieces. Anywhere else I have gotten Menudo from has had plentiful chunks of meat(yes, stomach lining) in it. Let's add on that the onions they gave me were as translucent as my windows; ahem, old a$$ onions. I didn't even want to put them in my Menudo because of it, but I did, and I was sorry I did. Cilantro, the same story, dark parts = not fresh. Okay, my biggest complaint is the smell that was left on my hands. The meat was smelly, to me this means it wasn't cleaned or boiled long enough. Ugh, I hate to be so critical about this but I am just super cereal about my Menudo(see what I did there). I am sure this place serves great Mexican food but it failed me on the Menudo. There are other issues but I think I said enough, just don't eat the Menudo here. read more

This is a quick cheap Mexican Restaurant that's great for a work lunch time spot. People either are getting food to go here, so it's not too crowded. The salsa and chips are light here, and it makes it easy to eat a lot of them. The lunch specials are typically around the $5 range. I can't say that it's super tasty or that it's terrible, but just average. I had the steak fajitas and it came with rice, beans, guacamole. It was the perfect portion for lunch, and I wasn't stuffed. The service was ok, and the waitress mixed up the plates a bit but no real biggie. I'm sure I'll be back. read more

The food here is so good. I like going for $1 Taco Mondays (really good steak tacos). I haven't tried anything else on the menu - I've only ever gone on Mondays. You can eat in or get carry out. The prices were fair and the portions good. There were several people dining in. The food is authentic. The red and green salsa's are delicious. We ordered some tacos, tamales, enchilada's, and rice and beans. Everything was great and the service fast and friendly. I placed an order for pick up. 3 steak burritos. One burrito had medium rare meat. I called to let them know to be more cautious and not rush the cooking. She explained because of how they cook it, that it was not possible that it was raw. Steak burritos should not have any pink meat in it. Tortilla was barely heated as well. I've been going there on regular basis for over 3 years now. I always get a take out but you can eat inside. The place is not fancy but the food in my opinion is really good. I am vegetarian and they make the best vegetarian burrito I have ever had. The waitresses are very nice and helpful. Their salsas are unique and delicious - especially the red one. The only downside of the place is: if you spend more than 5 minutes in there you will come out smelling like "soup" LOL Lots of people who work at the airport (including cops) come down there to eat ,so that should also be a hint that the food is good. read more

Ordered: Carne Asada burrito Price: $6.36 w/ tip Ambiance: Bright orange walls with colorful tableclothes gives this place a somewhat fun feel. The place was overall very clean despite the picture someone posted of a bug. Empty when I went so service was prompt and got my food within 5 minutes of sitting. Food: Chips and salsa here are pleasant: not burnt, not too thick/thin, the salsa tasted like mild pace picante you buy at the store but a little fresher. The burrito looked really appetizing, it was huge and lightly crisped on a grill which I enjoy. Inside was beans, lettuce, tomato, mozzarella, and moist tender pieces of grilled chuck steak. The disappointing thing about the whole dish, however, was the overall lack of flavor. The beans were bland and washed out the meat, a common problem when you mix the two. The meat, while very texturally pleasing, really needed some salt or seasoning. I reached for the trio of sauces they offer but that didn't help very much. The red sauce was probably the best with a healthy helping of heat but minimal red chile flavor and minimal body, they should make the sauce with a little stock or more onions to round the sauce out. The green sauces were even worse lacking flavor AND heat. Overall this place wasn't per se bad, it just really had nothing to offer me. The prices were pretty good given the amount of food they give you, the service was nice and the place clean but what is the point when the food is bland? I don't plan on coming back here again. read more

WellI never got to go to taqueria Santiago but I got to go to this place. The place looked nice and another small type Mexican eatery. The food was quick and relatively good although the beans tasted pretty generic. They have an awesome big menu with a variety of dinners and appetizers that look interesting. From the outside, this place looks like a little hole-in-the-wall place. We moved to Schiller Park recently and had to leave our beloved old Mexican restaurant behind. We were devastated. But I'm so happy we found this place. It's never been crowded. The service is amazing. The food is just as amazing. As soon as I walk in, the usual lady knows to bring us three horchatas. She remembers our orders. Even when we don't have our server and get someone else, they are just as friendly. I recently went back to my old favorite Mexican place in the city. It didn't compare and I don't even miss it anymore. The prices at El Salitre are pretty amazing for what you're served. We come here most Fridays and it's honestly one of the things I look forward to after a long, hard week. El Salitre, I love you. read more
