Amazing food and customer service. Love the vibe and cleanliness. Claudia cooks each meal with so much love and passion. Each meal we've had here was so authentic and full of flavor. Her son and her show excellent professionalism and care for each customer who stop by. Reasonable pricing as well.

Owner is super attentive and welcoming

I believe the bartender noticed her demeanor and stepped in to ask how he could help. I told him I needed a table for one. After being seated, I waited for over 5 minutes while the employee stood nearby folding napkins and completely ignored me. Around 9 minutes later, she walked over to another table and asked if they needed anything else, yet I had still not been acknowledged. It felt as though she was either blatantly ignoring me or simply chose not to serve me. Overall, the customer service and attentiveness were very disappointing. I eventually walked out without ordering. At the very least, someone should acknowledge a guest, offer a menu, or bring a glass of water. Unfortunately, that basic level of service was missing during my visit.

Mexi-Can Acopio is a…read morephoenix-rising-from-the-ashes story, as this building was the original home of Lorena's Taqueria before a terrible fire in 2012 forced them to relocate to their new digs on N. 13th St. Wisely, the family held onto the property for years before their chef-trained daughter, and the restaurant's namesake, Lorena, decided to repurpose it into a contemporary, elevated Mexican restaurant, along with her also chef-trained brother and a few others whose combined oeuvre of experience includes Michelin-starred Chez TJ, Alexander's-by-the-Sea, and Naschmarkt, to name a few. The Good: * A small private lot, as well as street parking, is available. * Reservations via their website * Outdoor, dog-friendly seating * Great bar program with signature cocktails and a nice selection of local brews on tap * Small, curated menu that changes seasonally * Great service from our server, Jayleen * Costillas de Elote (aka corn ribs) may seem like a nothing dish, but man, it was bursting with flavor and was one of the (many) highlights of the night * The Carne en su Jugo was a great riff on a classic French cassoulet, but with a Mexi kick in flavor * I couldn't resist the Duck Mole dish, as it featured two of my favorite foods in one savory and delicious plate. The confit duck leg was fantastic and fell off the bone, and the sweet and savory chocolate mole was the perfect foil. However, to me, the unheralded star of the dish was the fried masa brick, done up like a classic potato pavé, which deserves a special shoutout * For dessert, their rendition of Tres Leches cake was fantastic! The crispy turulete (corn-based cookie) on top gave a nice crunch to go along with the sweet cake, and the tart notes from the green apples really tied it all together for a complex and delicious dessert The Meh: * Happy Hour (Wed-Sat, 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m., and all day on Sun) menu and drinks are limited to the bar area only * Only open for dinner * As many have noted, the neighborhood is a little sus, but honestly, it's not that bad. Just lock your car (as you should everywhere these days), and you'll be fine--I promise The Ugly: * The number of people I know--or have seen online--who hate on elevated Mexican cuisine is kinda crazy. As if only French or American cuisines are allowed to be fancy--it's honestly a bunch of bullshit. If anything, LUNA has shown for years now that it can be done, and Acopio continues in that vein Conclusion: I had high expectations coming in, and Acopio met or exceeded every one of them. I'm a bit surprised they haven't received a nod from the Michelin Guide yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if one is in the works at some point in the future. Highly recommended.

It's a small place but has indoor & outdoor eating. Lively (Latin?) music & an extensive menu. If you have a large party or are with picky eaters, this place has it all. I ordered their egg scramble with chorizo. 5/5 The rice & beans were seasoned so good. Even as sides, as individual items they were DELICIOUS. The chorizo & eggs weren't overly greasy & the tortillas were good. My partner ordered the steak sandwich. 4.5/5 Flavor was amazing. The steak was a little chewy. The sauce on the side complimented it very well but not necessary as the flavor of the steak was great by itself. I ordered a strawberry mimosa, as well. It was really lacking for me. Didn't taste any strawberry. Just looked like pink champagne. 2/5 Overall, the food & customer service was great. Clean bathrooms. Good vibes. Will definitely come back & try the rest of the menu.

Enjoyed our chilaquiles (do try this if you stop by), and were wrapping up our meal with the empanada when we discovered a chunk of fuzzy blue grey mold in the MIDDLE of the empanada about 1" in length and 3/8" wide. The empanada was already cut in half and wasn't showing from the outside or the cut area, but the mold was in one half of the empanada and I broke the other half which was normal looking. Thankfully we spit it out, and didn't eat the bite that we took. The waitress had offered to replace it but we said no because we were so shocked. We were kind of disappointed that the manager didn't try to come and address the issue with us. Just left it to their serving staff who quickly cleared our table and gave us the check. Might go back for the other food items, but definitely NOT the empanadas.

Looking back, I think it's time to give credit where credit is due. These days, I regularly order the Havasu Salad with salmon, and it's fantastic. The portion is enormous, the ingredients are fresh, and it's one of the few salads that actually feels like a complete meal. The salmon pairs perfectly with it, and I always leave full and happy. With over 900 reviews, I had high hopes--and I'm glad to say my meal delivered. Food (4.5 stars) + The two-taco combo (about $13) was a win for me. I chose carnitas and adobada (that saucy red mole-like one!). The adobada was rich, flavorful, and unique, while the carnitas, although a bit dry, had a nice smokiness. The sweet bite of the onions really balanced the tacos--maybe a touch more cilantro and onions next time. + Kat's carnitas burrito was bright red and juicy (I found it perfect, even if she thought it was a tad dry). I think they put some similar yummy sauce as the adobada. Generous portion, meaty, and delicious. + Will's carne asada quesadillas were cheesy and tender. He found them bland, but I thought they were fine. Plus, the generous guac portion (even if it needed a squeeze of lime) was a nice touch. + The salsa bar deserves a shout-out. Mixing the spicy corn-bean blend with hot salsa and pico de gallo? That's a flavor bomb right there. - Carne asada nachos, while generous, fell flat. There was also quite a generous portion of guacamole along with sour cream. My only complaint is the meat lacked that smokiness or char of most asadas. It felt bland--almost taste boiled. I took the meat home to doctor it up! Service/Ambiance (4 stars) + I put this under service because I'm a fan of the unexpected and getting chips with our meal was a nice touch. Bonus Star! ~ You order at the counter, grab your own drinks. Staff were minimal but efficient enough for what it was. It's casual--not full service, but they get the job done. ~ Ambiance is simple--nothing fancy. You've got a salsa bar, a drink station, and it's very much a "grab a table" kind of place. Overall, for a quick, affordable sit-down Mexican spot, it hit the spot for me. My friends rated it 3.5 stars, but I loved it. I'd come back for the carnitas burrito and salsa bar alone!
