    Guava and cheese empanada
    Dang L.

We had a great experience at the restaurant. Came in on a Saturday morning for some grub. Menu was huge and plenty of options for drinks, especially the ones with alcohol. Our waiter efficiently sat us down and gave us the menu and sometime to think about what we wanted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was still quiet since it was 8am. But the music was nice in the background.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We opted to share the Philly cheese steak. It was huge and came with a large side of crispy shoestring fries. We both shared this. I got a fresh squeezed orange juice and it was just that. Tasted so good. Then our waiter asked if we wanted to get a dessert and we opted for the guava and cheese. The pastry was soft and not too sweet, which is what I liked. But I was so full from my half of the sandwich to really enjoy it. Looking forward to coming back to try some of the other options.

The food was absolutely flavorful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was on point- music was flowing at the right level where you can still hold a conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Many locals which speaks to how great the food is and the service. The house coffee tastes fantastic and comes in this cute mug. The mimosas are huge! The empanadas are savory and sweet come in many flavors we ordered the chicken mole for starters and took the sweet ones home. We had the steak chilaquiles and the crab Benedict. I begged them to open up in the east bay I need them in my life daily! If you live in San Jose you are blessed to have this place in your neighborhood. If you are passing through you have to come you will not regret it.

Really tasty! We ordered the green chilaquiles and the breakfast enchiladas. The breakfast enchiladas were a little on the smaller side but packed with filling, it was perfect with a little of their salsa on top, I ordered poached eggs, those did come a little overdone but mixed with everything it was fine. The meal came with hash browns and those were a 10! The workers were really nice and made it a pleasant trip!

My first time at Cheff Che Cafe & Bar. I remember when this place used to be sushi infinity so the location was def familiar! I ordered the strawberry horchata, I thought it was just okay 3/5. Something was missing from it so it wasn't my favorite. I ordered the chillaquiles rojo, which I would give it 4/5! My friend got the veggie omelet. Def will be back. The staff were very attentive and kind.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great casual spot in dtsj for brunch/brekkie![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Came here with my girls for a quick brunch after our yoga sesh and was very happy we did - legit had no idea this place existed. We were seated outside immediately and didn't have to wait, but granted it was a bit early for the weekend. Portions were pretty large and menu had a good variety - loved that they had Mexican style brekkie dishes which was my craving for the day. My friend got an omelet which looked fair (didnt taste it), but I opted for the huevos rancheros which was tasty! The tostada had a great crunch and held up the yummy yolky egg and flavorful sauce, while the side hashbrowns were tasty and lightly crisp. My friend got the tacos dorados which were also bomb - they were like taquitos in a Verde sauce (presented in a whole ass mortar). Very flavorful/tasty and something I'd order next time!

    Chorizo Scramble ($16.99)

Meh. Not the best breakfast but also not the worst. My friends each got an omelette and U got a chorizo scramble. We all thought it was just okay. My biggest complaint id that the food wasn't very hot. It was lukewarm. I enjoyed the flavor of the house potatoes and chorizo scramble otherwise. Portions were a bit lacking for the price though. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Music is blasting outside before you enter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place itself is decorated very lively.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was the bare minimum of taking our order and bringing our food out. An overall okay spot for breakfast or brunch.

It was the birthday weekend of one of my besties! We wanted to do brunch and I gave her three options. She picked the really boujie one but when we drove by, they were closed. We came here, which is the one I really wanted to go to because it was much more casual. We didn't know what was in store for us! The birthday gal and I ordered sangria and asked for the super sized one since there was three of us. We thought we were just getting a large pitcher, but out came this gigantic champagne flute with orange juice and fruit, and the bartender opened a bottle of wine and poured it in! What a beautiful sight! three straws and we were set! We started with the delicious empanadas: chicken, steak, and ground beef. All three sooooo good! I ordered their signature chiliquiles half red, half green with steak. Oh sooooooo goood! Traci had the steak ranchero and Debs had scrambled eggs on corn tortillas with hash browns, and they were happy campers. We spent a little over two hours there especially since we had to finish that sangria. The service was great! Everyone was so friendly! They have parking in the back and a patio area out in front. Definitely looking forward to coming back! I highly recommend Cheff Che if you're looking to do something special for breakfast...or lunch!

    Breakfast enchiladas!

Family owned and ran like everyone is family! A quick hello from the boss and we were on our way to an excellently served breakfast. I had the Breakfast Enchiladas: Sauce roja with delish shredded chicken in fresh tortillas, great breakfast papas with a couple scrambles eggs. WOW, soooo good! My dinning partner had the Huevos Rancheros... tasty with killer frijoles. For dessert we ordered empanadas... cajeta and churro/creme. Killer pastry with just enough sweetness. Next time we'll try the savory selection. Service was quick and friendly, the atmosphere comfortable... Come here for the breakfast, stay for the empanadas! We'll be back for this one!

I found a new breakfast spot. Parking is available at the back or street parking. If parked at the back, you can enter the restaurant from there too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It can look confusing at first since the back entrance looks more like a bar with the lights and inside is a counter bar seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Go further down and you can see more sit down tables and the outdoor patio area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu has traditional western breakfast, Hispanic dishes and variety of drinks (coffee, mimosas, aqua Fresca and more). I got the California eggs Benedict which was delicious. The watermelon aqua Fresca was also refreshing. The staff checked in on us every now and then. Condiments were already on the table and we didn't need to ask for anything else. Definitely will come back to try their other options.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place serves delicious breakfast and has plenty of seating and parking there's parking in the front and back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server Julio made our morning he welcomed us in with a cheerful greeting and a great smile! The food was delicious and hot with plenty of options in the menu to choose from.

I was in the area for an appointment and noticed Cheff Che Cafe & Bar across the street. The place looked vibrant and inviting, so I decided to pop in for a meal. I was quickly greeted and was able to get a table without any issues. I appreciated that this place wasn't crazy busy for being a brunch spot. I liked a lot of what I saw on the menu, which was a Mexican-style brunch. It was honestly refreshing to see a different kind of cuisine's take on classic and comfort breakfast food. Chilaquiles is always my go-to, but there was one item on the menu that I had to try... mole scramble. I love mole, and I love breakfast. Can't say I've ever had mole for breakfast, so this was a must-try for me. This dish was brilliant. Imagine a mole chicken enchilada but made with a 4-egg scramble wrap instead of tortilla. Even the country potatoes, which were in a rojo sauce, were tasty and flavorful. They also offered savory and sweet empanadas. I ordered 3 of the sweet flavors: peach and cream cheese, cajeta, and Nutella banana. They were OK. I liked the cajeta the best. I wasn't a fan of the crust on the empanadas, which was thick and very dry.

    Christine D.

FLAVOR (5/5): A tasty brunch spot that I've never heard before in SJ! The chicken fried steak was executed really well Love that they also give free empanadas if you post them on socials and the chicken mole one and mango cream cheese ones were great! Crust was nice and flakey and the filling was super generous too. The strawberry horchata was HUGE, definitely a drink you can share. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (5/5): It's a simple restaurant in terms of decor but the food presentation was very appealing! Everything looked like it was definitely made with love. SERVICE (4/5): We took a while to order so they kept checking on us if we were ready. The server was really nice and let us both get free empanadas if we both posted on socials. They don't allow biscuit substitutions for hash browns unfortunately. TAKEAWAYS: They have a parking lot in the back so no need to worry about street parking! Their menu is very extensive so definitely would be back to try their other items!

    Empanadas were dry

I have to say 5/5 for the service the guy handing out the take out order was really friendly and great, however the food I ordered (specifically empanadas) was dry and the seasoning used for the ground meat empanada was sour (not food poisoning sour but the flavor was not good) and the ham and cheese empanada was completely dried out and basically like eating an empanada with nothing in it there was barely any meat and cheese. Thus, in terms of the empanadas, I think they could try altering the recipe a little to make them more softer, juicy and flavorful because it unfortunately tasted too doughy and I had to keep drinking water after each bite to counteract the dryness. Also I paid like $30 excluding tax for like four empanadas so I expected more especially since the size of the empanadas were also quite small.

Gravy was a bit runny but flavorful - too bad because if the CFS had meat and was cooked right it could have been a good combination. Thought the first couple of bites were off... then I flipped it over. The "overcooked flavor" was masked by the gravy topping. Sad Positive: Eggs were cooked perfectly... I asked for over medium and they nailed it!! Crepe was just good... the whipped strawberry it came with was delish. Service was just mediocre... they didn't try to rectify the fact that I sent back the crispy low meat meal. No offer of a replacement and no apology. This time it was around noon, so my wife had the mini version of the Mexicano omelette, and I had the American burger with a grilled jalapeño on the side in addition to the french fries and avgolemono soup. My wife enjoyed her omelette, even eating her hashbrowns, which I was surprised to see. Usually, she leaves them for me. She must've been hungry! The hamburger is a half pound of ground Angus beef before cooking and comes with lettuce and tomato and in my case cheddar cheese instead of American. I love having breakfast at Bill's Cafe. Unfortunately, this location is not the same experience as the two other locations I've tried. The hostess told us they had no tables, and we could sit at the bar. My daughter stated she would rather be seated at a table, and we could wait. Three customers were walking past us, and the hostess said we could have their table. We were immediately seated in a booth, and we noticed there were at least five empty tables around us, peculiar. Whatever, we had time to look and decide what we each wanted. When our waiter came for our orders, he was quick and efficient. We didn't have to wait long for our meals and drinks to arrive. We generally liked our food, but the country potatoes were a little too firm, and seemed like they weren't cooked all the way through. We had to wait awhile for refills on our drinks. We caught the hostess walking by, and asked if we could get refills and napkins. She said okay, but brought only napkins, and we waited some more for refills on coffee and water. The hostess seemed a bit brusque, on the other hand our waiter was, quick and professional. I will drive a little further to the Alameda location, because the Newbury location is not as great, or team conscious as the other location.

It was the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh air and made for a really relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant has a great vibe overall, especially if you're looking for an outdoor brunch. (Have not been inside) I ordered the steak chilaquiles, and I'd give them a 8.5/10. The flavors were really good, the sauce was delicious, and I liked the addition of the eggs, avocado, and queso. My only complaint was the steak. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium well, a bit dry and was tougher than expected, making it difficult to cut. It was still tasty--just not cooked quite the way I was hoping. The mimosas were good too, a great value. Nothing that really stood out as amazing, but definitely nothing bad about them either--they got the job done. What really elevated the experience was the service. Our server Rebecca was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and incredibly quick throughout the meal. They checked in at the right times, answered our questions confidently, and made us feel well taken care of without ever being overbearing. Overall, I'd come back, especially to sit on the patio again. With a more tender steak, this meal would've easily been an 8.5 or 9 out of 10!! :)

Our server Charles was really great. He walked us through the menu giving us the 911 on watch to order. Most of the plates were perfect shareable bites. Making it easy to try multiple plates and really get your inner Foodie on. We started with the Seasonal Banana Pancakes with crushed walnuts and cinnamon maple syrup. Inside the pancakes were fresh bananas and the walnuts were crushed very small but added a great texture. Moving on to the Chicago Steak sandwich don't get confused but in Chicago they refer to Roast Beef as steak. The Au Jus dip was very flavorful without being a salt bomb. Loved the potato roll they used all round a killer sandwich. Going a little outside the box we tried the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. The pineapple slaw with this amazing peppery chutney type sauce played so well with the acid of the pineapple. Another must have sandwich. I ask you how can you go to a new restaurant and not have some dessert. With everything else being so good our expectations were pretty high and we were not disappointed. Just never got around to working a review before. Went early on a Saturday evening recently and was surprised to not have to wait. We split a Bibb lettuce salad that was simple, refreshing and perfect. A tiny pea fritter was the very definition of a small bite, and while it wasn't what I expected, it was crisp and tender. Grilled artichoke was one of the best I have ever had. (Just wish they had been explicit on the menu that it was a half a grilled artichoke). Cocktails were up to their usual high standard -- rye Manhattan for the BF and clarified milk punch for me. I don't get out much these days and I rarely drink alcohol, but is $20 a lot for a cocktail? Or is that normal now? They were great though. BF got the ribeye with morels, which was perfectly cooked and unbelievably tender. I had the burger, which was more exciting than it sounds, dressed with a wild combo of veggies, cheese and bacon while still managing to be harmonious and fresh tasting. Side of fries were crisp and tasty, though not as perfectly hot as I would ideally wish. Because the burger was late coming out, or server (Bernardo I think?) comped us an amazing little dish of vanilla soft serve ice cream with olive oil and sea salt, along with the butterscotch pudding that we ordered. The pudding didn't have the strong butterscotch flavor that I hoped for, but the vanilla ice cream stole the dessert show. OCK isn't a place I can afford often, but I still really like it. I appreciate the creativity of the dishes, the quality ingredients, and the bar. And the old-school shopping center vibe of the Pruneyard is low key festive and garden-like. The interior of the restaurant is kind of standard-industrial modern, but nicely so. Oh, and their glassware is super nice.

All dishes were sub standard save for the squash flower fritters. Milk punch and other cocktails are still worth the visit. Additionally the patio space at night is unmatched in terms of a cozy and perfectly intimate dinner experience. Our server Katherine N was outright hostile and messed up our order on top of having a really rude and unprofessional attitude. Bummer. This used to be the best dining in Pruneyard but its sister restaurant Be.steak.a, as well as Luna and Marafuku Ramen make OCK's bib gourmand look more than undeserved. The rest of the wait staff is lovely, and we look forward to some improvements in the menu intentionality and execution as well as said outlier staff member, as this restaurant has been a favorite in our family for over five years.
