Had a great Happy Hour at El Sirenito! I came with two friends to try their happy hour. It was also Taco Tuesday so HH prices all day for tacos. The ambience is nice - especially out on the patio on a pretty evening. Their inside dining is open to the outside but a good choice if you want a cozier and quieter space and be nearer to the bar area. For starters, we had their chips, salsa and guacamole. Very tasty and exactly what we were craving. We ordered street tacos: *Asada *Cochinita pibil - marinated pork, refried bean, pickled habanero onion *Chicken tinga - marinated chicken, refried bean *Rajas con papa - jalapeño, potato, sauted onion, queso fresco All were so flavorful each with their own unique blend of spices. Two of them had a nice little kick to them too! For drinks, we had the Sirenito house margaritas, one with added Passionfruit. Sooooo tasty! I saw what some of the other diners ordered -- and I can't wait to try the other drinks on the menu! And with the HH discount! Overall, we enjoyed our meal + drinks, the vibe and the staff. What a cute patio vibe! We randomly stumbled upon this place before dinner and to our surprise, they had happy on a Friday! Popped in for happy hour, easy street parking and restaurant itself is large. It is nice and bright inside, service is friendly. I ordered the quesadilla and added asada- the meat was tough and quesadilla was meh. I also got the chicken taco and pork taco- these were both really good, the meat had nice flavor. Chips were thick and avocado was fresh. Also tried the Jalapeño goat cheese appetizer that was wrapped in bacon, it was ok, I don't like goat cheese. Love the feel of this place, very lively yet low key. A good low buzz of chatter from the patrons. We came in after dinner nearby, so we only had dessert and drinks, but Woweee! The Tres Leches cake was light, of course moist, and pretty dang dreamy! This is one of the best I've had - and it's my usual go to, so I feel qualified to say it's top notch. I ordered a Paloma, and it was one-drink-buzz-girl approved. I'd love to come back and try the ceviche. I'll make sure to stop by soon. read more

I was looking for a quick meal before an event and, I'm glad to have stumbled upon El Sirenito. This restaurant is in an unassuming building. Walked through the doors, and I was transported to a beautiful space and relaxing atmosphere. The bar area featured a long counter top and spacious seating. Behind the bar is a decent collection of mezcals and other spirits. The dining room extends all the way to back and is perfect for large parties. I opted for the bar top seating. I started with their Mezcal Negroni, which was a mix of Mezcal joven, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Absolutely wonderful and perfect for sipping. For a main dish, I ordered the comalito. This dish is a cast iron grilled Royal Ranch carne asada, Gulf of Mexico wild prawns, onions, queso fundido, serrano chile, and avocado. This was served with a basket of hand-made tortillas. The queso was nicely melted. The steak and shrimp were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The grill plate may seem small, but the food was filling. Service was attentive, and I would definitely return to try their other mezcals. read more

Came in after work right before happy hour ended to sneak in a last minute HH margarita, and there was no wait with plenty of seating at 5:50pm on a a Tuesday. The margarita was good with the right amount of lime flavor to tequila ratios and very refreshing. It was also taco Tuesday, so the tacos were $2 each (pretty average pricing). We ordered one of each, and they were all flavorful, but the meat on the chicken and pork was definitely more tender and juicy than the steak. The veggie one was interesting and more filling than I would have expected from a veggie taco (and SPICY), but as a meat lover, I'd just order pork next time. We also got ceviche which was delicious, and I liked the additional pineapple in their version. Unfortunately, it was the same price as all out tacos combined, but to me the ceviche is always worth it. Overall, a solid spot for a happy hour or taco Tuesday! Will definitely return! I would like to give this place another go because it has been so highly recommended to me by numerous people. The ambiance was fantastic... The music, the decor, the patio, everything that isn't food related was perfect. Our server was very nice and attentive for a Saturday night.. one of our food items never arrived, but I don't blame them. I think the kitchen was just too fast, which is a shame because what we didn't get was chips and salsa and they looked delicious. The Rockfish enchiladas were pretty good. The red sauce was sweet and smokey with a nice kick. The fish was a little lacking in flavor, but maybe it was just overpowered by the sauce. The rice, also, was a bit bland. My dinner guest got shrimp enchiladas that were extremely salty. Once combined with everything else on the plate, the saltiness was fine, but on its own it was a lot. Visited to prep ourselves with drinks and food for the Georgetown Morgue on a weekend evening. Ended up being much more underwhelming than we thought it would be. We ordered the Ceviche, Carne Asada Tacos, and the Quesadilla. The only good item was the Quesadilla. The Ceviche was too sour and added pineapple even though it wasnt listed on the menu. I did see avocado was added to a few people's dishes, but it wasnt included in mine. The Carne Asada lacked meat. It was bare minimum and was to include onion and avocado, but it was not there. Waiter seemed to be absent most of the time. The only person really present was the bartender. Overall, we will not come back. Was just a one time try visit to eat and prepare ourselves before the morgue. read more

Covid Review: Nice that El Sirenito has a large outdoor patio at the back of the property that is fully covered with a plastic tarp. It provides great ambiance along with social distancing with each table having it's own heater. Even with phase 1 restrictions, El Sirenito provides a great experience. I still recommend that you layer your clothing as it can be brisk during these winter months. As for the food and drink, we came during the happy hour where they had $1 off cocktails (includes margaritas). The stand out on the menu where we made 3 orders was the fried oysters that included 5 plump oysters perfectly prepared. These are shucked fresh and came with some tasty sauces. The margaritas are tart, salty and pretty strong drinks, so pace yourself as 1 or 2 is all you need. The appetizer that could have been better was the QUESO FUNDIDO that came in a hot plate that never fully melted and was the consistency of pulled taffy. Overall, El Sirenito has survived the COVID restrictions and is a great place both before and after these lock down rules. read more

Which isn't a big deal... until you want to order for it a drink. I wish they'd make this a bit more clear. This might be my new favorite place in Georgetown. We moved to Georgetown about a year ago and have been slowly trying every restaurant in town. This might take the crown thus far! First of all everything I have tried so far is delicious. Secondly, mezcal. So many fun mezcal cocktails! Very few places I have been to specialize in this and it's so cool to see! My wife and I went here a few weeks back and thought the food was very good, and we're more than willing to pay a (relatively to me) higher price for good food. We went back tonight with my son and just about everything was poor. The owner was having a party and so the whole back half (the outside) was off-limits. It was about 95 degrees outside and the area we were in had no open windows nor any fans. It was ridiculously hot. After we ordered (three entrees, three drinks and chips salsa and guac) we had to ask several times to get water refills (keep in mind it was really hot in there!). Our food took a long time (the server who served us last time who was excellent came over and apologized) and then we needed to ask about our drinks which never came. Another waiter came by and said the bar got a big order and our drinks would be out shortly. About the time we got the bill, another waitress brought over a kitchen ticket and asked if we had ordered chips and salsa. Meals tasted good but portions were small and didn't taste as good as the first time. Bill was about $140 after tip (I was probably overly generous) for three people. Note to the owner: if you have a private party (assuming this was the root cause), close the restaurant for a day. As it stands, I was so frustrated with our second experience, I won't be returning. read more

Went for dinner at Sirenito after not dining there since pandemic times and was sorely disappointed. In spite of having reservations and the place only half full, it took a while to get seated inside. There were no fans or breeze and we were uncomfortably hot the whole time we were there. The music was loud and we strained to hear each other over dinner and the entrees were lacking in taste and freshness (seafood tacos and enchiladas). 1. We were headed to an event in Georgetown and realized we all needed a quick bite. A friend had mentioned El Sirenito and we were not disappointed. 2. Even though it was a crowded Friday night the staff was able to seat us quickly and the staff couldn't have been nicer. 3. Everything we ordered was delicious. From the fish tacos to the ceviche. My husband and I had the oddest experience at El Sirenito yesterday!! We'd gotten couples massages earlier in the day, then gone to Fran's Chocolates for a decadent post-massage treat. Feeling hungry for more than just chocolate, I noticed El Sirenito across the street from the Fran's. After perusing their menu posted near the entry door, I enthusiastically entered this place. I was 100% under the impression that this was a restaurant WITH a bar, and I went inside because I wanted a good meal. I don't drink very often, I'm over 21 by well over a decade, and I wasn't planning on ordering any alcohol. So, even if I had noticed the small sign to the left of the entry door saying that the entire establishment is 21+ (which I did not notice), it probably wouldn't have fazed me. My husband and I sat down at a table located on the outdoor back patio, which is a beautiful environment with large black sun umbrellas, cafe lights, and greenery. Looking forward to what looked like it would be an absolutely delicious dinner in a relaxing environment, I was a bit shocked when the waiter asked to check my ID. Oddly enough, I didn't have my ID with me, which is a very unusual situation. I didn't have it with me because my brain sometimes gets very forgetful post-massage, my husband was driving, and I didn't want to have to worry about possibly forgetting my purse at the spa. I told our waiter that I wasn't going to be ordering any alcohol, and I told him my actual age. I don't usually give out my actual age, but let me just say that my college years are more than 15 years in the past, and that if I'd been a teen mom I could have a KID who'd be 21 years old right now!! At this point I wonder if our poor waiter thought that I might be from the liquor board or something. After all, most people do have their ID on them most of the time. It's odd not to, and I hadn't thought to explain my reason to him for not having it. Whether or not he wondered this, he got very strict and insisted that he was not able to serve us, and told us that he cards all patrons prior to serving them, whether or not they order alcohol. Stomach growling, I got a bit cheeky and asked him if he'd carded every single person on that patio. He admitted he hadn't carded the white-haired guy in the corner. Then he said to me very sternly, "You don't look like the age you say you are." At this point I felt torn between being offended that he was accusing me of lying, or flattered that he was so sure that I was much younger than I am! Again, I never once attempted to order alcohol, nor did my husband! I finally asked him if we could place a to-go order. The food looked amazing, and I didn't consider him to be rude, just strict. I hadn't been aware that this was a 21+ establishment, I just wandered into it spontaneously and a bit obliviously, so that's on me. He agreed to the to-go order. I ordered the rockfish ceviche, the chips with salsa and housemade guacamole, and the sopa de mariscos (seafood soup). My husband ordered the ahi tuna tostada. The manager reached out to me and apologized to me (I had NOT asked to speak to him, he did this of his own accord). I just wanted my food and was glad I was going to get it one way or another, and I felt that an apology was not necessary. He explained that the liquor board has been very strict lately. I'm sure they have. The chips are the best, thickest, freshest chips I've ever eaten from a restaurant. The housemade guacamole is AMAZING. The ceviche is moist, flavorful, and very fresh. The soup is hearty, warm, and wonderful, with generous portions of seafood. My husband really liked his ahi tostadas. I can't fault this restaurant for following their own rules, that *I* didn't notice. And I haven't been carded *anywhere* for quite a while, even in the rare instances that I *do* order alcohol - I think it's been years since I was last carded! - so having thought it over between feeling flattered and offended, I think I'll choose to be flattered. Tried to go there with my friend tonight but I had such a terrible experience getting a table. I put my name in for the 1 hour long wait. When my turn came, they texted me at 7:28 and I replied back at 7:35 we are on the way. When we got there at 7:41 (11 min when I said we are on the way) they wouldn't seat us (a giant party of 2) stating after 10 they give away the table. WTF!?! ¡I am so sorry El Sirentio for talking to my friend while we were waiting, I really should have been glued to my phone waiting for my dear text from you! Eh. We got the tacos and the queso fundito with steak, but they were meh. First, they brought me 4 tiny corn tortillas for a giant bowl of queso fundito. I was so confused. Why would they serve queso with warm tortillas. Not to mention just 3. It's like being served 12 chips for a whole giant bowl of queso. But then it came with avocado, and salsa and I was just super confused by the warm tortillas because it also came with no plate to assemble any of it and they are two soft to dip like a chip. It was just weird. As for the tacos, they were massively different spice levels. One was two spicy to eat which was also odd. You'd think they'd all be somewhat similar. And the drinks were weird too. Having passion fruit paired with smoke flavor was just not a good combination and what ever was on the rim (tasted like pure smoke no salt) was just not good at all. Finally, the service was mediocre at best. Our server, came one time near the end and then had someone else come to ring the bill. She seemed annoyed the whole time, didn't say anything when she came to take our order. No hi or anything, just stood their and waited for us to order. It was kinda an awkward weird interaction. Might have just been an off night for her but it wasn't much of a customer service experience. Finally, it was freezing! Ive tried this spot 3 times over the years since it opened. I want to like it, I really do. Everyone has an off night but this place is just off every time Ive been there! It has potential to be so much better owned by Fonda La Catrina next-door, one of our favorite places. The drinks are good but full to the rim with ice. The Queso fundido (with the upsell of chorizo added) was plentiful and tasty, (about an 6- 8 oz bowl) comes with 2 small street taco sized tortillas. We asked for more as we barely made a dent in the Queso. The server offered more tortillas or chips, we opted for chips and noticed we were charged for them on our bill. The calamari was very overcooked and fishy at the same time. Ordered the shrimp stuffed jalapeños. Im pretty sure they were raw, so spicy hot we couldnt eat them ( I love spicy hot food). The shrimp was the size of a small bay shrimp. The server was friendly and efficient. It just wasn't good at all. We ended up going nextdoor for tacos and margs. Won't be returning. Every once in a while you find a new restaurant in what I like to think of as "the Goldilocks zone"; just opened, full of optimism, everyone doing their best to impress, the culinary equivalent of "new car smell". Even the restrooms seem happy to see you. El Sirenito is one of these, a lovely hopeful offshoot of Fonda la Catrina next door, they stand a better chance of carrying that lovely optimism foreword (Fonda la Catrina is well-renown as the some of the best Mexican in town, and is obviously well-managed). Seafood-centric small plates garnish an impressive tequila, cocktail and wine list. The service is friendly, personal, and warm. Prices are reasonable. The cactus salad was an eye-opener: freshly pickled crisp nopalitos, mild soft cotija, avocado and onion. Gone are the mushy cactus bits, here to stay is fresh, crisp, tangy nummyness. Recommended! The shrimp taco was perfect, with cabbage, salsa verde and pickled onion. The Sopa was generous and rich, with a red broth, clams, tilapia, octopus, and fragrant masa. A squeeze of lime provided some brightness. The sardine appetizer was intensely salty, tangy and unctuous- the only suggestion I have for the entire meal was that they consider using bocharone instead of sardines for this dish, for a gentler flavor. You can't really ask for more, really. Come here for the relaxed service, excellent beverage selection, wonderful small bites (tapas lovers will get this place), inviting atmosphere and modern take on a timeless concept. They might not be in the Goldilocks zone forever, but I bet they remain pretty damned good for some time to come! A rare five star rating from this old Sous Chef. read more

They were short-staffed so it took forever to get our check when we were done, but in their defense it was packed by the time we finished and there were only like three people working.
