Love their food. We usually do takeout. Its always ready and their service is amazing.

My mom and I went yesterday for a last minute bite to eat. It's always quiet inside, which is nice when you just want to relax. The service was great and the waitress was very attentive. We decided to split the chicken and steak fajitas. We enjoyed the meal but we did both agree the fajitas were bland and needed more sauce and seasonings. Even with sour cream and some guac on top we felt the meat needed a little something. All in all we will go back as we had a nice experience. read more

I've driven past here multiple times but finally stopped in for a meal. The service was excellent. The ambiance was casual and the typical Mexican flare. I had the Gorditas with the rice and bean platter and two rather tasty margaritas. The whole experience was good. I wasn't blown away but I am happy to have found another good Mexican choice. My wife and I enjoyed our food and margaritas. We ordered the guacamole, which was very good, as an appetizer. We have been to the restaurant several times. My wife ordered chilles rellenos, which she typically does. I selected an item which I had not had before, Asada A Li Tampiquena which was very good. The service was excellent. I love to come here for lunch! They have well-priced, tasty lunch specials. I am a big fan of the tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas. The waitstaff is always kind and working hard! That should tell you all you need to know. Most entrees only come with meat and cheese inside and you can't add more. They don't have cheese dip. And the service was... disappointing. Place never disappoints. We have been coming here for a few years now and I now feel the need to give this place a review. They have this tilapia dish that I crave once in a while and I can't find anywhere else. Their service is always solid, super super nice people. I hate to write something like this but here goes...I just spent $26 for a carryout steak and egg burrito. I ordered American Fries and toast as well. It was $24 total and I guilted myself into giving a $2 tip, which was not worth it. The burrito sucked. No flavor in the meat at all. American fries were like a half order and not crisp at all. While in Waukesha around lunch time I checked my book marks to see what I had in the area and this was one so I stopped by for lunch. The place has about six parking spaces in front and looks small so I hope there is parking in back or something. The place is bigger than it looks from the street and it looks like it was repurposed into a restaurant. The walls have some color mostly yellow with blue at the bar. There is a small bar in the back with a flat screen if you want to do that. There is booths on the side walls and tables and chairs in in the big open area. My servers on point throughout my whole time while I was there. My server asked if I wanted chips and salsa and I asked for a small version so as not to waste a whole container of chips. The chips were the dry store bought kind and were not the house made with that light oil on the chip. The salsa was fairly boring with no stand out flavors with a small heat finish, just way to tame for salsa. The menu has plenty of items to choose from but I would try the three taco dinner with beans and rice. A asked my server how the tacos are made and sure enough they were going to put lettuce and tomato so I asked for cilantro and onion because I don't want Americanized tacos. The table had only salt and pepper with no hot sauces but there was a cloth napkin. My plate came and no hot sauce came with it so I guess they don't offer any hot sauces with the food and maybe you have to request it. My tacos were ground beef, shredded chicken and al pastor. I sampled all the meats before I tried the tacos and the ground beef was on the dry side in comparison to the other meats. The chicken was moist but just tasted like plain chicken. The al pastor was moist and tasty and clearly the winner on this plate and the only meat I would get if I went back. The rice and beans were ok and nothing special. Overall nothing was bad and my service was good but this is just average when you compare it to some of Milwaukee's greats at all price ranges. I would eat again if I was in the area like today but if I was going out specifically Mexican I would head to the Milwaukee known ones that I like. read more

Went in on a Friday night at 8 for the first time. They are open until 10. Nice looking place - clean - and reasonable covid precautions. We decided to order margaritas, and they had a number of tequilas so we asked for a drink menu. Were told they did not have one. Hmmm. So we ordered margaritas anyway and they were pretty good. Small dish of salsa, but it was very good. Small tray of chips, but warm and tasty. Would have liked more refills, even if there was a charge. Asked for hotter salsas and were given verde and habanero - both were excellent - but served in squeeze bottles. Would have been nice to have in a dish for dipping. Must say I usually love queso, but not available here. Menu in general was pretty unadventurous, with meat selections of just pork, beef and chicken. Food had great flavors, and everything tasted fresh and vibrant. Will go back and try again for this reason. Service was polite and mostly efficient. At about 9pm, well before closing time, the server mopping the floor, even near our table, with a strong disinfectant that obliterated the sense of smell was most unwelcome. Have to take off a full star for that. Will try again due to the taste of the food, but have to say overall did not find the experience all that great, so will not make any special effort. Think there are much better options within 10-15 minutes, sadly, as we really wanted to like the place. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Waukesha. Came here in September for lunch and had the enchiladas with shredded beef. The best rice I've had in the area too, not salty and perfectly seasoned. I came here with a family of 5 and they had something for everyone. My 6 year old had a pancake, and my 15 year old had beef tacos. The service here is amazing. They are super attentive. I've moved in Mexico and went to the best Burrito places in Chicago (El Faro) and Milwaukee (El Local) and El Sol does a good job. I've introduced family and friends to El Sol since my recent move to Waukesha and they've all enjoyed it immensely. Service is always joyful and quick, but most importantly, the food is very good. I ordered the combination with taco, tostada, and enchilada. I ordered pastor for the taco and chicken for the other items. The pastor had a nice flavor, slightly spicy, but a bit too salty. The chicken was mostly tender but some was dry, and the enchilada sauce was good, too. I also thought the rice and beans were slightly better than average with good flavor. Service was solid. My friend ordered a strawberry margarita on the rocks and it was too sweet, as if all puree. She told the server she couldn't drink it and ordered something else. He obliged without question. The water was absolutely horrible, like it came from a pan that was used to wash dishes. I ordered a can of Sprite, not wanting to trust the fountain drinks. The place was divey, the service was good, the food was good, and the drinks were bad unless you order from a can or bottle. I'd give 3 1/2 stars if I could because I enjoyed most of the flavors, but leaning more toward 3 than 4. read more

We ordered for carry out recently. The fajitas were so delicious and flavorful, I will definitely be returning just for those! My only complaint is that they did not have the order completely correct when I first got there and I had to remind them about some of the items before I left. The food is awful. Corn tortillas not properly handled or made. Just sad. The meats are tasteless rubbery and just fatty. It's gross. Bottom of barrel ingredients. The range of salsa or anything for that matter very thin. Idk where all these great reviews are coming from but they clearly didn't actually eat. I took ONE bite which I spat out into a napkin of my food and left it and my own children didn't even eat theirs after a few bites. So it was a waste of money, of course no refund or concern for why a very large order wasn't actually consumed and refused to be taken with or boxed up. Just ewwww. Horrible food. If you simply look up the reviews before eating here you'll catch that clearly their staff and families make the good ones. This is easily my favorite Mexican restaurant, and perhaps my favorite restaurant in general. Their Enchiladas Suizas De Pollo (first item on the menu) is a near religious experience; especially if you add their chile de arbol hot sauce (I think that's what it is) which you may need to ask them for. Their tacos are also amazing. Corn tortillas are authentically doubled up, and the flour tortillas have great texture. The fajitas and chimichangas are also top notch. I've never left disappointed and I try to eat there at least once a week. In fact, usually when I'm done eating, I want to hug the cook. It's SO GOOD. read more

THE BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN WAUKESHA! My girlfriend and I have visited several Mexican restaurants to sample and so far we have had the best service from here. Anthony was definitely a hustling worker and I always appreciate seeing that. I hope his hard work and ambitious attitude stands out to others when people visit.
