Stroke of luck put us in front of an open sign at Plaza Garibaldi. Curiosity about the Italian name at a Mexican restaurant and the gnawing pains in our guts urged us into this adventure. We found the ambiance economically yet lavishly adorned with an obvious Mexican flavor. Menus had an ample selection, and service was prompt, friendly and professional. A great cinco de mayo had at plaza garibaldi! This was my first time here. Loved the decor and the ability to sit in the little sun room/greenhouse area and enjoy the sunshine! Staff was so friendly I literally feel like we had every person there as our server and it was wonderful! Always a plus for free chips and salsa. Delicious margaritas! We just love this place! The service is excellent. The food is so good. We go here about every other week to eat. We have never had a bad experience. My favorites are the tostadas and the cheese and onion enchiladas. My husband loves the chile rellenos and burritos. Most entrees come with rice and beans. We have tried many different items during the past year 2025. Never been disappointed! The prices are very reasonable. The portions are generous. Easy, plenty of parking spots. No steps. The location of the restaurant is very convenient and the decor inside makes you truly feel like you are at a Mexican restaurant. They also have a little sun room area and the windows are filled with plants! It is so cute! There is outdoor seating as well, but without any umbrellas or covering. Service was fantastic. Our waitress was extremely attentive, asking if we were okay, if we needed more of anything, and offering plates and refills. The food was just okay. We ordered calamari, seafood chimichangas, taco salad, and the taco dinner. It seemed to be lacking flavor overall and we had to use a lot of hot sauce to taste it. The rice was bland as well. I've been to Plaza Garibaldi a few times now and I've always had a pleasant experience. The chips seem to have changed between the last time I visited and now (December 2022). They aren't as good, but delicious nonetheless. I highly recommend getting the guacamole. As someone who doesn't like cilantro, I thought this guac was perfect. There was very little cilantro and it didn't overpower the guacamole at all. You really only need to order one dish of it for a party of 3-4. The bowl is bigger than it looks. I personally don't like tequila, but the people in my party who ordered the raspberry margaritas were very impressed. According to them, it was pretty sweet but very strong. So if you're a lightweight, you should probably just stick to one. I had the chicken enchiladas with red sauce (I order them every time). And, per usual, they were delicious. If you want something spicy, this is NOT it. The enchiladas are very mild and very cheesy - just how I like it. You can substitute beans for extra rice, which I did. And I really appreciate how they add some accoutrements (sour cream, onion, tomato, a bit of guac) to dress it up a little if you so desire. The waitstaff here is always friendly and efficient. The service is quick. I've never had a bad experience here. Plaza Garibaldi really is a hidden gem. read more

This is my go to place for good authentic Mexican. I have frequenting this place since its opening and even though it's not the best I've had, it's darn good! The tequila shrimp are large and cooked to perfection every time. Great fajitas and my favorite is probably the hottest thing on the menu and not something I can find many other places, lomo de res pollo en chile de arbol!!! This is thin slices of ribeye in a super hot and creamy chili sauce. I love it so much. For some reason it's never busy and we get immediate seating even on a weekend dinner time. Was here for lunch and even though our large group was well-taken care of by one waitress, many of the group were not wowed by their dishes (and some locals vowed they probably would not return). The hotter salsa offered with the complimentary chips was nice, not too bad. They offer standard margaritas and beer, Sprecher Rootbeer, Horchata. My son liked his steak zocalo, in mild/spicy adobo sauce. It came with big onions and beans in the same adobo sauce. I had a house specialty pork dish that was labeled spicy on the menu. I really didn't believe them, but true enough, that dish was super spicy! It was good, but overall (accounting for the group's majority opinion), I expect more than just fake atmosphere and dishes from a Mexican restaurant in Waukesha- an area with a deep Mexican history (and an area where my Mexican roots stem from!). I come here maybe two times a month for steak tacos. These are the best steak tacos you can buy. The meat has a very distinctive flavor and is cut super small so you are not chewing yourself to death. Plus the stuff they put on the tacos is super fresh, never a hint of old tomatoes or rotten lettuce. They have two types of hot sauce, both are diamond level hot sauces, obviously directly extracted from fine peppers. Did I mention they were cheap? $2.00 for a taco. I can eat like a frikking pig for around $12! I usually get takeout, and guess what? I always get what I ordered, even though I have specifics about what I need (sides of sauce, sour cream, etc). Anyone who eats out a lot in the year of our Lord 2018 knows that this is very rare, stuff is always getting screwed up on takeout. My neighbor comes here often and told me they serve frog legs. I have not had frog legs since the Leilani on Bluemound closed. Ribbt Ribbit, had mine grilled with this fabulous hot sauce, they were delicious. Where to begin.... I thought I would give it one last try. Last being the key word. Never again because this place is a mess. Simple Mexican style food is the good news. The bad news? 1. I would give it no star if I could. Our waiter took our drink order the first time. Came back, didn't have cranberry juice. Give them a break, probably ran out. Didn't get our drink order correct after coming back. Took our food order. My wife ordered tostado with refried beans, no meat but everything else such as lettuce, tomato and cheese. Confusion set in. She repeated order. Came back and asked us to clarify what we ordered. Deer in head lights this time. She repeated her order...same wording. Waiter clarifying question, "so did you want just refried beans only?" So I figured I don't have all night, better clarify for him. I wasn't sure how to clarify much more but I thought I would give it a try. a. tostado b. refried beans and no meat c. everything else that goes on it and with it Lots of writing by waiter. I ordered and kept it simple. I said this is going to be messed up. Waiter comes back to clarify our kids order. Needless to say, wife's order was wrong, kids order was wrong but mine was correct! He never came by to fill water, ask how everything was. We ate and left as quickly as we could. I usually don't walk without tipping, but this was close. I ended up giving a 5% tip and a note for reason why the small tip. This is last time we go there. I actually looked for a hidden camera.... I am thankful this place is in town. The service is great and it's very clean. The food is pretty good. I would say the food would be better if it was all warm. You might have an entree with the tacos warm, but the rice and beans not or vice versa. Went back less than a week later, and the food was again delicious! Had a raspberry margarita this time - I am just going to assume that ALL the flavors are amazing!! There must have been a private party in the "terrace" area, but we were again seated immediately, and it was nice to have the mariachi band playing! (I think they were playing for the private group, but this place is smaller, so the music was heard throughout the restaurant.) The live music definitely added to the ambiance! Love this place. Never had a bad meal. I get intimidated not knowing what some Menu items are. I often say "surprise me" to try something new. My favorites. The shrimp cocktail has a ton of shrimp and a entire avocado cut up in a "soup" of cocktail sauce. amazing! Chimichangas and Enchiladas both standouts Flautas are worth a try. Don't skip the Guacamole they use an imported variety of avacados that are so smooth and creamy. Great....
