Sad looking burrito bowl (a before pic)
    Mel T.

I've ordered from here twice. The first time was for pick up on a Wednesday at around 7 pm. The second time, I ordered via DoorDash (out of sheer laziness and because I had a coupon about to expire) on a Friday at around 5 and got my food probably in less than a half an hour. The first time was definitely the better experience. The food was hot and I liked my order, a chorizo quesadilla - pretty simple. My husband had the burrito enchilada and he liked it (though it's a bit too heavy for me). We also ordered queso and chips, and you can't really go wrong with that. Plus, they give you a ton of chips. The second time, the food was not hot - I guess since it was for delivery. This time, I had an Al pastor burrito bowl and it was pretty lackluster. It's basically just rice, meat, cheese, sour cream, and pico. It also looked as if everything was kind of just slopped together. I added cilantro, pickled jalapeños, and pickled red onions to it myself just to add some pizzazz. It's a good thing that I just happened to have those things on hand. Overall, it's just an okay bowl though they do give a pretty large portion. I might order again just out of the convenience of the location, but only for pick up. However, I don't think this will be my go-to fast food Mexican spot.

    Delish Mexican Food!

We were searching on Yelp for some Mexican Food while on Rt 17 South and bam, a 4 1/2 star rating pops up! Yelp once again never disappoints. First, the restaurant was covid-clean and limited tables inside and nicely spaced apart. They also do a big takeout biz. We both ordered bowls and the food was so good. I had mine with steak and all the typical fixings. You can pick out what you want "Chipotle Style" but this food is much better. Pricing is also reasonable. And most importantly, as you can see from many other amazing reviews, you must try some churros. They are so good! Freshly cooked just for you... crunchy, sweet cinnamony goodness. I will definitely be back for more. I'll tip my sombrero to this delish restaurant. Yum!!!

Nachos rock!!! Crisp and tasty with whatever options you choose!

A GO-TO FOR TAKEOUT/DELIVERY At the former site of many past restaurants, most recently a somewhat underperforming Qdoba, the employees there (from what I understand) decided to take over the place... And takeover they DID! Quite possibly the most enjoyable thing about the place before it "changed hands" was the friendly and fast service provided by the staff. The food was good, but it had that "chain feel". Renaming the restaurant El Sombrero was just the start of good things to come. The same staff were going to make some changes, and they were (and continue to be) ALL for the better. So SO great to see them succeed; as they've taken the food (along with the same great service) to another level. The dining area is nicely maintained, but (in this age where, as THEY proudly proclaim on their marquee outside as FAST FOOD) is not so utilized... As their takeout and delivery business is apparently thriving. Food is fast, tasty, hot, and a great value with multiple options. Support these fine and friendly people, and your tummy will thank you!!!

    Chicken quesadilla

This seems to be a family run restaurant which is very nice. The service is good and quick. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was very good.

We ordered a steak burrito combo, steak quesadilla, and a pastor taco via seamless for lunch. The order arrived swiftly but the bag was not sealed on top. The burrito and tacos were delicious, very flavorful and fulfilling. The quesadilla was good as well but it was very thin. It definitely needed more cheese and steak. We would order here again, but not sure if we would order for drop off since the bag was not sealed.

    Burrito enchilada and nachos

Gave this place a try a few weeks ago and was definitely impressed by the amount of food and bright colors in these dishes. We had 3 burrito enchiladas, but the one with ground beef seems to come with more sauce? I wish the steak burritos did too, but it's all good. The nachos were ok, but I'm sure it's better when eaten at the restaurant. I'd compare this similiarly to Mi Rancho in the area, so give this place a try if you're looking for something new!

    Chicken nachos!
    Melinda M.

My first time ordering was a delivery but that didn't take away from the experience! I recommend the nachos (they're salsa and fixings are so fresh and they put sooo many different kinds of cheese/queso) and the taco dorados. The food is not too oily (I feel like a lot of Mexican in the area has been lately), and it just tastes super fresh and homemade. I'm a California Mexican lover, and I have been looking for a place in the area that can make (deep fried tacos) fried crunchy tacos. While the tacos dorados aren't exactly what I'm looking for, they were delicious all the same. Good till the last swipe, yum!!!

My double burrito. It was amazing.

The Double Burito, chicken quesadillas , Sombrero Tacos , Carnitas bowl , Pastor Nachos , Tacos Habaneros. This was ower meal and it wasn't expensive $62.64 Thank you. We will be back.

Food was very bland no flavor. Queso is cheesy water. Not very happy people behind the counter.

We started with the Guacamole and chips and the vegetarian nachos. Both came out very quick and were excellent. We also ordered drinks and they also came out in a timely manner. I had a mojito, my stepmother had a margarita and my dad had the sangria. Drinks were pricey and a bit weak but overall good. We ordered our food and I had the Thursday lunch special Birria which was very nice and tender, my stepmother had the chicken burrito it was huge and very good and my dad had the shrimp and steak fajitas which he loved. We ended the meal with the outrageous churros piping hot and such a sweet surprise!! We talked with Yanci who is the owner's daughter and she was so nice and sweet. Best part about this place is the atmosphere everywhere you look it just gets better. The decor is awesome and everything just went perfect together. I read other reviews about how it probably is on a busy night and I'm happy we came when we did... that it wasn't hectic and loud. We would definitely come back again for lunch to enjoy a drink and share our food (because we all left with extra left overs) Overall definitely give it a try.

I think they are bogus. This restaurant has several locations around NJ. Parking is valet only. The ambiance and decor is pretty, fun and loud. Very loud. We were seated upstairs with a pretty good view of the restaurant. Where we were seated, the lights coming from the huge projector screen was annoying. They give you an iPad to look at the menu, which can be confusing if you are technically challenged. I am not. My husband is! There's a photographer going around asking if you want a picture. I agree with one of the reviews. It seems that they are only interested in upselling. I ordered the house margarita the regular size. It was OK, from a mix, but no tequila to be found at $13. My husband had a Pacifico beer which he ask twice for lime and a glass. They brought him a margarita glass and a few dry limes. At this point he gave up. I had the chicken fajitas. It came with Rice, black refried beans and some guacamole. The included three flour tortillas were terrible old and dry. The only thing good were the fajitas. We also ordered chicken chili rellenos. Came with the terrible rice and the refried beans. My husband said they were OK. Edible as he put it. The Mexican food here is not authentic. Now for the service. Our server, told us right off that her English was limited. We speak Spanish, so that was not a problem. The service is mediocre. We asked for water twice. Finally she brought it. But not the hot sauce my husband asked for twice. It's definitely a 3 star restaurant. Catering to people that want the fun but are OK with mediocre food.

I know tongue can sound very off-putting but when cooked right, it is so tender and flavorful. These lengua tacos were no exception! Bursting with flavor and filled, these are some of the heartiest street tacos I've ever had. The chips w/ guacamole and salsa were nice too. Perhaps not the best I've had but very good. The chips were fresh and the salsa was interesting. For the guacamole, this is personal preference but I prefer a chunkier guacamole. This one was very smooth. I also ordered the horchata which was good but a bit too sweet for me. The restaurant is BYOB. You can bring wine and they have a sangria mix for $15 and they'll turn your wine into Sangria.
