This place is very clean and very authentic. Every single ingredient looked very fresh. I got the steak burrito bowl combo and it was very delicious. I really regret ordering from here. I got the ground beef tacos, and as soon as I opened the packaging, I could tell something was off, it didn't smell or look fresh. When I looked inside, it was just chunks of what seemed like frozen burger patties, still cold in the middle. Definitely not what I expected. I called the restaurant to let them know, hoping to get it resolved, but the woman who answered (she said she was the owner) was so rude. She shouted over me while I was just trying to explain the situation. She went as far as to let me know that if I wanted to I can stop by so that she could give me a food thermometer and for me to cook the beef myself. By the way, they put water in their sour cream and water down their sauces! while charging for each sauce. I was not only disappointed with the food received, which would've been fine! I've ordered from here twice. The first time was for pick up on a Wednesday at around 7 pm. The second time, I ordered via DoorDash (out of sheer laziness and because I had a coupon about to expire) on a Friday at around 5 and got my food probably in less than a half an hour. The first time was definitely the better experience. The food was hot and I liked my order, a chorizo quesadilla - pretty simple. My husband had the burrito enchilada and he liked it (though it's a bit too heavy for me). We also ordered queso and chips, and you can't really go wrong with that. Plus, they give you a ton of chips. The second time, the food was not hot - I guess since it was for delivery. This time, I had an Al pastor burrito bowl and it was pretty lackluster. It's basically just rice, meat, cheese, sour cream, and pico. It also looked as if everything was kind of just slopped together. I added cilantro, pickled jalapeños, and pickled red onions to it myself just to add some pizzazz. It's a good thing that I just happened to have those things on hand. Overall, it's just an okay bowl though they do give a pretty large portion. I might order again just out of the convenience of the location, but only for pick up. However, I don't think this will be my go-to fast food Mexican spot. read more

We were searching on Yelp for some Mexican Food while on Rt 17 South and bam, a 4 1/2 star rating pops up! Yelp once again never disappoints. First, the restaurant was covid-clean and limited tables inside and nicely spaced apart. They also do a big takeout biz. We both ordered bowls and the food was so good. I had mine with steak and all the typical fixings. You can pick out what you want "Chipotle Style" but this food is much better. Pricing is also reasonable. And most importantly, as you can see from many other amazing reviews, you must try some churros. They are so good! Freshly cooked just for you... crunchy, sweet cinnamony goodness. A GO-TO FOR TAKEOUT/DELIVERY At the former site of many past restaurants, most recently a somewhat underperforming Qdoba, the employees there (from what I understand) decided to take over the place... And takeover they DID! Quite possibly the most enjoyable thing about the place before it "changed hands" was the friendly and fast service provided by the staff. The food was good, but it had that "chain feel". Renaming the restaurant El Sombrero was just the start of good things to come. The same staff were going to make some changes, and they were (and continue to be) ALL for the better. So SO great to see them succeed; as they've taken the food (along with the same great service) to another level. The dining area is nicely maintained, but (in this age where, as THEY proudly proclaim on their marquee outside as FAST FOOD) is not so utilized... As their takeout and delivery business is apparently thriving. Food is fast, tasty, hot, and a great value with multiple options. [DURING COVID REVIEW] Solid Mexican food but there were some people within the restaurant not wearing masks. I ordered the Burrito Enchilado and a horchata online. I arrived for pick-up at the early end of when the order was supposed to be ready and it was ready at the time. It was upon picking when I noticed that some people were not wearing masks. Fortunately, it was pretty easy to keep my distance but I just took my food and left. The food itself was good. I didn't think it was anything special but some of the better Mexican food that I've had within NJ. The horchata was enjoyable as well. I felt that the price was okay. I was felt that the portion was a bit light as I was still hungry after my meal but I don't think the food is overpriced. The menu has a fair amount of options that should be able to appeal to a broad audience. Overall I felt that this place is a solid Mexican food restaurant for a decent price. It's been a year since I was last here. Was excited for some good Mexican food, as they were always consistently good, and food tasted fresh and delicious! However, the food wasn't what I was expecting. I'm not sure what changed - new recipe? New management? Whatever the reason, they need to go back to their old ways. The meat was salty, portions were much smaller, and now they charge an extra $1.30 for a small scoop of guacamole for the Burrito Bowl which used to be included. Gave this place a try a few weeks ago and was definitely impressed by the amount of food and bright colors in these dishes. We had 3 burrito enchiladas, but the one with ground beef seems to come with more sauce? I wish the steak burritos did too, but it's all good. The nachos were ok, but I'm sure it's better when eaten at the restaurant. I recommend the nachos (they're salsa and fixings are so fresh and they put sooo many different kinds of cheese/queso) and the taco dorados. The food is not too oily (I feel like a lot of Mexican in the area has been lately), and it just tastes super fresh and homemade. I'm a California Mexican lover, and I have been looking for a place in the area that can make (deep fried tacos) fried crunchy tacos. My boyfriend and I just got dinner from here a couple nights ago. It was so very fresh and delivered fast (although, truth be told, I live right at the top of the hill). I was so pleased. The heat (spicyness) on the food was absolute perfection. I love heat. My boyfriend less so. Our dishes were somehow perfectly seasoned for us both. I got nachos al pastor. He got a steak plato w mexican rice. Both were seasoned perfectly. My Boo likes to salt things up. And he didnt. Nom. Oh. Psssst! Also. Maduros for dessert. Driving back from vacation and glad we stopped for dinner. It looks simple and has a simple menu, but it is good! The nachos were excellent, with the pulled beef really putting it over the top. Their prices were also cheaper than any other similar fast food burrito/taco/quesadilla spot. Finally, it is family run, and their service and kindness is top notch. read more

This place just opened up so I really wanted to give it try. The menu is pretty limited. I think they are trying to go for a fast food feel but be more authentic however it is not working well. I got the Dipped tacos and they came out looking like taquitos. They need to up their spice level as well in their food. I also got a burrito with queso sauce. This too was pretty bland. Thankfully they have a wide variety of sauces to choose from if you dine in. The prices are also too expensive for what you are getting and for the competition of taco bell down the road. I never liked burritos but since this place is legit I decided to try it and oh my god, I inhaled it. Everything I tried in this restaurant has been outstanding, the Mexican tacos are killer, the pastor rocks and the orchata is the cherry on the pie. Their chips are slightly flavored with lime and that makes them amazing. Definitely a must go !! One more thing, the price is outstanding, with 20 bucks you can eat a very good and filling meal! Went for a quick lunch, service was fast and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. I got true tacos dorados with rice & beans. The rice tasted reheated so it wasn't great, beans were just okay nothing crazy.
